Abstract

Seagrass known as Lamun in Bahasa is one of the species that are can live in submerged marine habitats. Seagrasses have an important role in the ecosystems, including as primary producers, living habitats of benthic organisms, stabilize bed sediments and carbon storage in shallow-water coastal. Monospecies community of seagrass was found in Malang, however, only limited number studies of seagrass have been done in the area. This study aimed to determine the growth rate and biomass of the seagrass, as well as the phytochemical compounds. Experiments were conducted during August-November in 2014 and 2015. Measurement of in situ growth and biomass leaf were made using marking techniques in one week also the data of leaf seagrass collected were using a random sampling method. Extracted materials were tested by methanol to get the phytochemical compound. Data were analyzed at the Fisheries and Marine Exploration Laboratory, FPIK-UB. The results of the present study showed that two species of seagrass, Syringodium isoetifolium at Kondang Merak and Thalassia hemprichii at Bale Kambang. The growth rate of the seagrass leaves of the former species had positive values with 0.45±0.19 cm/day, hile the later species had 0.25±0.14 cm/day. Furthermore, the biomass value of the two types seagrass obtained that in the below-ground was higher than the above-ground. Phytochemical tests showed that both of type seagrass contained bioactive compounds such as flavonoids and saponins.

Abstract

In the era of the Covid-19 pandemic, the government implemented a distance learning system for students at all levels of education. This has an impact on various changes in learning methods, including for the subjects of Physical Education, Sports, and Health. The importance of learning sports during the pandemic is the right of every student, including students with special needs. In fact, children who need special services are often excluded from teaching and learning activities in physical education. So adaptive physical education is needed so that it can serve the learning needs of blind students and lead students to achieve excellent health. To overcome the persistence of the above problem, the authors implemented an adaptive physical education program aimed at blind students at Junior High School Modern Islamic School (SMP MIS) Surakarta. The main program is train students to do an adaptive rhythmic gymnastics. This program consisting of Ayo Pahami (Lets Understand), Ayo Praktikkan (Lets Practice), and Ayo Lanjutkan (Lets Continue) carried out online through the WhatsApp Group. In general, this program implementation activities can run well. This is evidenced by the results of written test and also performance test. Quantitatively, the average students score is 60 while the average teachers score is 84 for the written test, and the average students score for performance test is 71,2 which is considered as skilled. Qualitatively, all students understand and can memorize the whole movements of the rhythmic gymnastics. Habituation and parental/teacher guidance is needed to boost students' ability in practicing the movements so that their motor skills can improve progressively. We also arrange ETAS organizational structure that aims to encourage students to continue their rhythmic gymnastics habits and is expected new extracurricular in the future.

Abstract

Coral reef ecosystems are among the most productive natural biodiversity resources  in tropical coastal areas, within seagrass beds and mangrove forests. Besides, coral reefs have very high ecological impacts and economic value that are managed well and sustainably. Also, healthy ecosystems will undoubtedly provide more incredible benefits and values, so studies need to be conducted to determine the health of coral reefs. While P2O LIPI is an institution that is the guardian of coral reef health data in Indonesia, there is limited information related to the coastal areas of East Java that has not been widely reported. This study aimed to find out the percentage of living hard corals and the health status of the ecosystem at three reef sites: Banyuwangi, Situbondo, and Probolinggo. Field surveys were carried out in June-July 2019, using the Line Intercept Transect (LIT) method. The materials used in this study are Self-Contain Underwater Breath Apparatus-SCUBA diving equipment, roll meters, and an underwater camera. The results showed that the hard coral cover living in Banyuwangi accounted for 28.91%, Situbondo was 31.20%, and Probolinggo (34.77%). Therefore, this study interpreted that the coral reef ecosystem was a moderate category (25% - 49.9%).

Abstract

This study aims to examine the differences in gill net catch results with the lunar phase in Penampi Village and Kelebuk Village, Bengkalis Regency. Data were collected from January 5 to April 5, 2024, involving 15 fishermen (eight from Penampi Village and seven from Kelebuk Village). Global Positioning System (GPS) technology was used to record the route of the boats, the number of catches (tails), and the total weight (kg) during fishing activities. Statistical analysis using an independent t-test was conducted to evaluate the effect of the lunar phase on catch results. The study found that the lunar phase did not significantly affect the number of catches (fish). However, catch weight was significantly influenced by the dark lunar phase (173.9 kg) and the semi-dark phase (30.5 kg). This study provides important insights into gill net fishing practices in the region. Fishermen are advised to focus on fishing during the dark moon phase, as this period yields the highest catch weight. During the semi-dark phase, fishermen are advised to consider alternative strategies, such as adjusting fishing locations and times to improve catch outcomes. Additionally, weather and sea conditions should be monitored to support the success of fishing activities.
