Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) components of prospective mathematics teachers in microteaching practice. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed using a survey method. Data were collected through a TPACK questionnaire measured on a five-point Likert scale. The participants consisted of 71 Mathematics Education students enrolled in a microteaching course at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Mataram. The data were analyzed descriptively to determine the level of TPACK mastery. The results show that the average score across the seven TPACK components reached 81.44%, which falls into the high category, indicating that prospective mathematics teachers generally demonstrate a strong foundation in technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge. Among the components, Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK) obtained the highest mean score, while Content Knowledge (CK) showed a relatively lower score. These findings suggest that although prospective mathematics teachers perform well in individual and paired TPACK components, the holistic integration of technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge in microteaching contexts still requires further strengthening through more authentic and sustained teaching experiences.

Abstract

The perception of mathematics as a difficult subject often leads students to make errors. Errors made by students when solving story problems need to be analyzed to determine the cause. Mathematics anxiety is one of the causes of students making errors. This study aims to describe the errors made by students of SMPN 6 Mataram in answering story problems based on Newman's theory in terms of students' level of mathematics anxiety. The type of research used is qualitative. The research instruments used were anxiety level questionnaires, story problem tests, and interview guidelines. The selection of subject in class IX F used a purposive sample with the criteria: (1) students who had learned the system of linear equations in two variables (SPLDV), (2) students who had completed the mathematics anxiety questionnaire, (3) students from one class representing high, moderate, and low levels of mathematics anxiety. The results show that mathematics anxiety influences the types of errors students make in solving SPLDV word problems. Students with high anxiety made errors in comprehension, transformation, process skills, and conclusion stages; those with moderate anxiety in comprehension, process skills, and conclusion; while students with low anxiety mainly erred at the conclusion stage.

Abstract

Mathematical communication ability is the student's ability to convey mathematical ideas through writing, symbols, and visual representations. Learning interest is one of the factors that encourages students to be more active in learning and more confident in expressing mathematical ideas. This study aims to describe students' mathematical communication abilities in solving Pythagorean Theorem problems in terms of learning interest. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach and was conducted in class VIII of SMP Negeri 7 Mataram in the 2025/2026 academic year. The subjects of this study were 42 students, consisting of 11 students with high learning interest, 18 students with moderate learning interest, and 13 students with low learning interest. Furthermore, 8 students were selected for interviews, consisting of 3 students with high interest, 3 with moderate interest, and 2 with low interest. Data collection techniques included questionnaires, tests, and interviews. Data analysis was performed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that students' mathematical communication abilities differ at each level of learning interest. Students with high interest tend to be better at expressing ideas and using symbols; students with moderate interest are fairly good but still have difficulty explaining the solution steps; whereas students with low interest have difficulty expressing ideas and explaining the problem-solving process. Thus, learning interest is not always directly proportional to students' mathematical communication abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities in solving PISA-like problems based on the Field Dependent (FD) and Field Independent (FI) cognitive styles. This research employed a qualitative descriptive design. The subjects of the study were 40 students of class VIIIC at SMP Negeri 2 Mataram in the 2025/2026 academic year, consisting of 20 FD students and 20 FI students. Furthermore, six students, comprising three FD students and three FI students, were selected as interview subjects through purposive sampling. The data were collected using a cognitive style test, namely the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT), a mathematical problem-solving test in the form of PISA-like problems, and interview guidelines. Data analysis was conducted based on the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while also referring to Polya’s four stages of problem solving. The results of the study indicate that: (1) FD students were generally able to perform three stages of Polya’s problem-solving process, namely understanding the problem, devising a plan, and carrying out the plan. However, FD students were generally unable to perform the looking back stage; (2) FI students were generally able to perform all four stages of Polya’s problem-solving process, namely understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a consideration for teachers in designing mathematics instruction that is aligned with student’s cognitive style characteristics.

Abstract

Story problems are problems related to real life that contain a problem to be solved. Solving story problems requires the ability to understand the content of the problem. However, many students still experience difficulties in solving story problems. The purpose of this study is to describe the types of errors and their causes among students with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles in the Pythagorean theorem material. Error analysis was conducted based on Newman's procedure. The subjects of this study were student in class VIII-1 of SMPN 3 Mataram for the 2024/2025 academic year, selected using purposive sampling. The data collection techniques used were questionnaires, story problem tests, and interviews. The data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study revealed: (i) students with a visual learning style made errors in problem transformation and writing conclusions. The causes of errors made by visual learners include being careless in determining formulas, incorrectly illustrating known information, mistakenly determining formulas, not knowing the steps to solve the problem, and errors in previous stages. (ii) Students with an auditory learning style made errors in problem transformation, process skills, and writing conclusions. The causes of errors made by auditory learners include being careless in performing calculations, confusion in determining formulas, and errors in previous stages. (iii) Students with a kinesthetic learning style make errors in problem transformation, process skills, and writing conclusions. The causes of errors made by kinesthetic learners include incorrectly illustrating information, not knowing how to solve problems, answering arbitrarily, and errors in the calculation process.
