Abstract

The present study is a part of design research in local instructional theory in a pre-algebraic lesson using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. The article will focus on recommendations for the type of pre-algebra class that supports elementary school students’ algebraic thinking. As design research study, it followed the three steps of preliminary studies, teaching experiment and retrospective analysis. The subject of the study is 32 fifth grade students of MIN 2 Palembang during the teaching experiment phase.  The data were gathered from students’ worksheets, lesson observation and interviews with the students. Data analysis was done using a constant comparative qualitative method. The results from the study indicate that pattern investigation in pre-algebra class that visualized geometrically supports the students to identify the form of the pattern and construct generalization.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Numbered Head Together terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematika siswa SMP. Jenis Penelitian ini adalah true eksperimental  dengan desain post test only control design. Populasi dalam penelitan ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII yang terdiri dari lima kelas. Sampelnya adalah siswa kelas VIII A dan VIII B yang diambil dengan teknik cluster random sampling. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah lembar observasi untuk melihat keterlaksanaan model pembelajaran yang digunakan dan soal tes yang terdiri dari 3 soal untuk melihat kemampuan komunikasi matematika siswa. Hasil dari lembar observasi keterlaksanaan model pembelajaran adalah pada pertemuan pertama untuk keterlaksanaan langkah-langkah pembelajarannya mencapai  83% dan pada  pertemuan kedua mencapai 100 %.  Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu uji t, hasilnya thitung> ttabel, sehingga dapat dikatakan siswa yang menggunakan model pembelajaran Numbered Head Together memiliki kemampuan komunikasi matematika berbeda dengan siswa yang menggunakan model pembelajaran langsung. Rata-rata hasil post test kemampuan komunikasi matematika siswa kelas eksperimen sebesar 70,03 lebih baik dari rata-rata hasil post test kemampuan komunikasi matematika siswa kelas kontrol yaitu 64,55. Hal ini menunjukkan ada pengaruh penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Numbered Head Together terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematika siswa SMP.

Abstract

Background of this research is many student errors at solving linear equation systems with two variables problems. The research aim is to know the kinds and level of errors at solving linear equation systems with two variables problems. This research is descriptive quantitative. The subject of this study is 30 students grade 7 from one of junior high school at Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara. A data collection done by tested and interviewed. The error of the problem solving that could analyze were a reading error, comprehension, transformation, process skills and encoding. Result of the research indicate that percentage of reading error was 17.78% (too low category), comprehension error was 55.56% (middle category), transformation error was 18.52% (too low category), process skills error was 36.67% (low category) and encoding error was 83.70% (too high category).

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this research is to improve learning activity and achievement in Probability Theory, through the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL). This research was done in three cycles on first semester students of Mathematics Education of the University Mataram, iin the academic year 2005/2006. In this research, the implementation of PBL model is combined with cooperative model in the phase of problem solving. By improving the quality of learning on each cycle, activity and achievement of students improved significantly, that is the average of achievement is 62.8 at the end of the first cycle, 71.6 in the second and 87.8 at the third. Students’ activity also improved, that is 47% in first cycle, 67% in second and 88% in third. It indicates that PBL implemented in the last cycle can be made as one of instruction model in university, especially for study of probability theory. Abstract

Soal matematika berbasis higher order thinking skills dapat membantu meningkatkan keterampilan abad 21 siswa sehingga Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan mencanangkan pelaksanaan program penilaian berbasis HOTS di setiap jenjang pendidikan. Faktanya adalah di SMPN 1 Mataram program tersebut belum berjalan sesuai mestinya. Terdapat dua masalah yang menyebabkan hal tersebut terjadi, yaitu kurangnya kemampuan guru dalam membuat soal HOTS matematika dan ketersediaan soal berbasis HOTS pada buku pelajaran matematika yang digunakan di sekolah tersebut masih belum cukup. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan soal HOTS matematika untuk membantu memenuhi ketersediaan referensi soal HOTS baik bagi guru maupun siswa di SMPN 1 Mataram. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah model pengembanganTessmer yang terdiri atas dua tahap yakni preliminary dan formative evaluation. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah diperolehnya 20 soal HOTS matematika dengan nilai validitas 75,9375%, kepraktisan 80,41%, keefektifan 79%, kesukaran soal dalam kategori sedang, daya pembeda dalam kategori cukup, soal reliabel, dan menunjukkan hasil sesuai harapan yakni keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa berada pada kategori cukup. Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini adalah telah dihasilkan soal HOTS matematika yang valid, praktis, dan efektif.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the influence of adversity quotient (AQ) on student mathematics learning achievement (MLA) of class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Narmada academic year 2019/2020. Population in this study consisted of 379 students and sample of the research is consisted of 80 students which are selected by using the purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques in this research using questionnaires and test. The instrument of this research using a closed AQ questionnaire consisting of 50 statements and essay of pattern and sequence mathematics number consisting of 4 questions. The data obtained was analyzed using correlation and simple linear regression. Correlation coefficient (r) equal to 0,799, which indicate that relation between AQ on student MLA including was strong category. The contribution of AQ on student MLA, coefficient of determination is 60,684 %. This indicated AQ also affect the student’s MLA of class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Narmada academic year 2019/2020 shown by liniear regression equation in this research is Y=-20,592+0,577X

Abstract

This research aims to find out the influence of the cooperative learning model of STAD type toward mathematics learning achievement of 8th grade student in SMPN 7 Mataram first semester academic year 2019/2020 on the subject matter of relations and functions. This true experiment research was designed using pretest-posttest control group design. Two classes were selected as a research subject with cluster random sampling technique, namely class VIII-B as the experimental class and VIII-C as the control class. Data collection tehniques were used observation and tests. The statistical analysis used was t-test gain and effect size to see the influence of using the STAD type cooperative learning model toward students' mathematics learning outcomes in SMPN 7 Mataram. The results showed there were differences in the improvement of mathematics learning achievement of mathematics between students who obtained learning with STAD type cooperative model and students who learned with direct learning model. The contribution of the STAD type cooperative learning model to students' mathematics learning achievement was in high category. This showed that learning using STAD type cooperative learning model had a positive influence toward mathematics learning achievement for students of grade 8th in SMPN 7 Mataram.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the mathematical problem solving ability of class VIII MTsN 1 Mataram at academic year 2019/2020 in solving numbers pattern problems based on reflective and impulsive cognitive styles. This type of research was quantitative descriptive research. The subjects in this study were students of class VIII-6 MTsN 1 Mataram at academic year 2019/2020. Data retrieval were done by using the cognitive test and the test results of problem solving. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the number of reflective students were 14 students (63,6%) who were distributed into 5 students (22,7%) with high ability, 7 students (31,8%) with moderate ability, and 2 student (9,1%) with low ability. While the number of impulsive students were 8 students who distributed into 5 students (22,7%) with medium ability and 3 students (13,6%) with low ability. Those results showed that there were differences in problem solving abilities between students who had reflective and impulsive cognitive styles. Reflective students in solving problems had been able to meet all the indicators at the problem solving stage according to Polya namely understanding the problem, thinking about the plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back. While impulsive students in solving problems had been able to fulfill the indicators thinking about plans and implementing plans. Impulsive students tend to skip the stages of understanding a problem and looking back.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the written mathematical communication skills through the lence of cognitive style of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Praya Barat Daya in the academic year 2020/2021. With the subjects of research used is 4 students of class VIII A which is taken were in the form of GEFT test results . This study is a descriptive study. The instrument used is test GEFT and written mathematical communication skills test. The findings of the study showed that (a) Students with field-independent cognitivestyle depictedproper written mathematical communication skill. Students at this level were able to state ideas or mathematical solutions in their own language clearly and precisely, they also were able to state problems in the form of pictures, and were able to write down mathematical ideas and explanations correctly but were still not optimal. (b) Students with a field-dependent cognitive style had good mathematical communication ability. Students at this level were able to state ideas or mathematical solutions in their own language properlyyet are still incomplete, they were still not optimal in addressing problems in the form of images, and lastly, they werealso able to write mathematical ideas and explanations clearly and accurately.

Abstract

This Research aims to know about the reasoning ability and mathematic representation ability to the results of mathematic lesson in students grade VIII SMP Negeri 1 Batulayar year academic 2019/2020. This research used quantitative approach with ex post facto research type. The population of this research is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Batulayar. In determining the sample, probability sampling technique with the type of cluster sampling was used. The sample in this research is the students of class VIII B SMP Negeri 1 Batulayar amounted to 22 students. Data analysis used was multiple linear regression analysis. From the result of the data analysis we found the significant influence between reasoning ability and representative mathematic’s ability to the mathematics learning result of mathematic lesson in students grade viii smp negeri 1 batulayar year academic 2019/2020 with Fcount = 78,812 > F(2,19) = 3,52. The data we wroute as the same regration that Ŷ=-2,452+0,466X1+0,575X2. The equation show us that reasoning ability and the representative mathematic’s ability increase 1 unit and the learning result will increase to 0,466 from reasoning mathematics ability plus 0,575 representative mathematic’s ability.
