Abstract

Errors in solving geometry problems can be used as a reference to find out what difficulties are made by students. One of the efforts in helping students who have difficulty in solving geometry problems, is by identifying the results of students' completion of the given problem. The purpose of this study is to identify student errors in solving geometry problems using Newman’s Procedure. This study uses a mixed approach (fixed method) using test questions instruments. The subjects of this study were 29 students of class VII C of SMP Negeri 8 Kediri. The results of identification of student answers obtained data that errors in reading problems because students are confused about solving the geometry problems. Comprehension errors of what they read happens because students answer broadly when asked is that many tiles are needed. Transformation errors occur because students incorrectly write numbers while working. Errors in process skill in implementing strategies occur because students choose the wrong strategiy in solving problems. Errors in encoding when students write final answers occur because students do not know that writing down the distance unit while working on problems is not allowed and it’s wrong in counting. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the criteria for a mathematics learning media reference book that is needed for junior high school mathematics teachers in the city of Mataram. The research begins with a survey on whether learning mathematics requires media, then identifies the frequency with which teachers use media in learning mathematics, as well as the reasons teachers never or rarely use media in learning mathematics. Based on the survey, it was found that teachers need reference books to develop mathematics learning media, so it is necessary to develop the criteria for the required reference books. Furthermore, a literature review was conducted to compare the needs (ideal conditions) for Learning Media reference books with the current state (real conditions). Conclusion The results of the study show that the materials that require media are: arithmetic operations Integers and fractions, Linear Equations, Sets and Venn Diagrams, geometry, Function values, function graph sketches, slopes of lines, Pythagoras, circles, tangents, inner circles and the outer circle of a triangle, the properties of geometric figures, similarity, congruence, cylinders, cones, and spheres. In addition, the media needed are Concept Maps, Informative Power Points, Interactive Power Points, Student Worksheets, Learning Videos, Teaching Aids, and GeoGebra. Furthermore, the criteria for a valid book were developed based on the results of the study which included 4 aspects, namely material aspects, language, presentation of material, and graphics

Abstract

Linear Programming is a course under the scope of algebra that must be mastered by mathematics education students. The low ability to solve linear programming problems can affect student performance when they become a teacher. This study aims to analyze the need for developing learning videos in Linear Programming courses for students of the Mathematics Education Study Program. The method used is development research which consists of Preliminary Analysis, Product Prototype, and Assessment. The research subjects were 30 students in the 7th semester of mathematics education and had attended online Linear Programming lectures in the previous semester. Data were collected by conducting written tests, questionnaires, and interviews and analyzed quantitatively descriptively. The results of the written test analysis showed that the students' ability to solve linear programming problems was low. Based on interviews, it is also known that students are not enough just to learn through modules and virtual meetings. Students tend to need learning videos/records to repeat explanations when studying the material independently. Therefore, there is a great need for learning videos that can optimize online learning of Linear Programming courses.

Abstract

Student argumentation skills are considered weak during online lectures. The Toulmin Argumentation Model is an excellent model in analyzing argumentation discourse in the Science Classroom. This study aims to describe Toulmin's argumentation patterns during online lectures during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques used in the form of an open questionnaire. Respondents used in this study were 50 samples. The results showed that the argumentation pattern was divided into 2 categories namely, (1) Category Four Elements and (2) Category Five Elements. The Four Elements category is divided into 2 patterns, namely the C-G-W-B Pattern and the G-C-M-W Pattern. In the CGWB Pattern, the argumentation elements used are a claim (position statement), ground (data or facts), warrant (guarantee), and backing (support), while in the GCMW Pattern the argumentation elements used are ground (data or facts), claim (position statement), Capital Qualifier, and warrant. The Five Elements category forms the G-C-W-B-Pc Pattern. In the G-C-W-B-Pc Pattern, the argumentation elements used are grounds (data or facts), claims (position statements), warrant (s), backing (support), and possible rebuttal (exceptions). In the case of the five-element category, the argumentation pattern does not use a Capital qualifier
