Abstract

Research on Plankton Community in The Waters of Ogan River Kertapati District, Palembang, South Sumatra Province, has been conducted from March to April 2018. This study aimed to identify the plankton community, i.e., abundance, diversity index, dominance index, similarity index between stations, and describe pollution level conditions based on saprobic coefficient. Sampling in this study using purposive random sampling method at five observation stations with three sampling locations, respectively. The physical and chemical parameters of the waters include temperature, brightness, current speed, pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), nitrates, and phosphates. The composition of plankton consists of 47 Genera derived from 8 Classes, with a total abundance value in March ranging from 13-27 ind./L, and the total value of abundance in April 2018 has a range of values of 12-21 ind./L. Plankton diversity index values in about 1.87-2.98 indicate the stability of the moderate biota community. Based on the index of plankton dominance with a range of 0.05-0.21, no species dominate other species or D = 0(<0.5). In contrast, the index of plankton similarity between stations shows the communities between stations are relatively different (<50%). The water quality of the Ogan River based on saprobic coefficients is light to very light.

Abstract

Residents use the Komering tributary that flows through Pangkalan Gelebak Village in Banyuasin Regency for fish farming activities. Villagers tried to cultivate catfish and tilapia, but it did not work because they died. Water as a medium for fish farming activities is an important factor that must be considered. Water quality in waters can affect aquaculture activities and fish growth. The study was conducted to determine the water quality (physics and chemistry) in the Komering River tributary as a basis for the cultivation environment. The research was conducted in the Komering tributary of Pangkalan Gelebak Village, Banyuasin Regency,  in September, October, and November 2019. The sampling point is determined using a purposive sampling method in four sampling points. The temperature measurements range from 27-32.7ºC, depth 0.4-9 m, brightness 0.2-1.1 m, and turbidity 12.62-69.2 NTU. Only the depth of the four physical parameters is unsuitable for cultivation activities. During the dry season, the water depth between the riverbed and cage nets does not reach 1m. Chemical parameter measurement results; dissolved oxygen 1.7 – 7 mg/l, pH 6.5 – 7, alkalinity 34 - 46 mg/l CaCO3, nitrate 0.892 - 2.278 mg/l, nitrite 0.032 - 0.217 mg/l, ammonia 0.02-0.398 mg/ l and ortho-phosphate 0.054-0.283 mg/l. The value of nitrate, ammonia, and orthophosphate indicated high values so than unsuitable for fish farming activities. Agricultural activities around creeks and domestic waste disposal are causes of poor water quality.

Abstract

Research on the diversity of fish fauna has been widely carried out, especially in Indonesia, even in some areas has decreased, especially in rivers due to many factors. The Ogan River that flows through Ogan Ilir Regency is a multipurpose river for the community, not only for daily needs, transportation, aquaculture activities, and capture fisheries. Currently, information on fish fauna in the Ogan River in Ogan Ilir Regency has not been verified and has not been published in detail. The study aims to determine the types of fish caught, diversity index, uniformity index, abundance index, and dominance index. The research was conducted in the Ogan River, South Pemulutan Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir Regency with a survey method that determines the station point by purposive sampling and produces three stations with different characteristics. Sampling of fish was done 8 times for three months using a gill net. The results showed that in the Ogan River 24 species of fish were found with a total catch of 276 fish classified into 14 families, namely dukang fish, dukang yellow fish, long whiskers catfish, asian redtail catfish, marble goby, milkfish, duskyfin glassy perchlet, striped snakehead, nile tilapia, long tongue sole, silver barb, tinfoil barb, beardless barb, black sharkminnow, bonylip barb, umbut fish, sleepy goby, kissing gourami, amazon sailfin catfish, giant prawn, giant gourami, pangasius juaro, malayan leaffish, and lais fish. All stations show a moderate diversity index value of 1.72-2.842, the uniformity index value shows evenly distributed at all stations, namely 0.898 - 1.816, the abundance index value is 1 which indicates less abundant at all stations and the dominance index shows a low value that ranges from 0.068-0.094 or no dominating species.

Abstract

Belanti village used to be land before the entry of the palm oil company, which caused the canalization to form a lake or swamp. The company's canalization blocked the flow of a natural river in Ulak Pati, Pampangan sub-district, preventing water from flowing and causing it to pool in what was once open land. The result of this canalization caused changes to the ecosystem in the village of Rawa Belanti, which had an impact on the growth factors of aquatic organisms that formed along with the formation of the lake/swamp. This study focuses on collecting data and information about the growth of cork fish that are found in many communities in rawa belanti through the sampling method. The study was conducted for 4 months with sampling intervals every 10 days. Calculation of length-weight and condition factor used all cork fish caught during the sampling.The growth factors assessed were the correlation between length and weight, and the condition factor of the gourami fish caught in the swamp. Based on the results of the study, the correlation of length and weight growth is negative allometric, which means that weight growth is slower than the growth of fish length. Assessment of the condition factor of cork fish shows an average value of 1, which means that the fish is in good body condition. Water quality assessment was also conducted in order to support growth data.

Abstract

Environmental factors play an important role in the growth and survival of fish, both directly and indirectly. This role is not limited to determining the success of fish growth in terms of length and weight; fish behavior, feeding patterns, and metabolism are also affected. Photoperiod itself is defined as the length of time of light and dark exposure. This study aims to evaluate the effect of photoperiodism on the growth rate and physiological response of red tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The study was conducted in Gandus District, Palembang City. Data and analysis were performed using a completely randomized design (CRD) with several parameters such as growth rate, weight gain, survival rate, and behavior of red tilapia observed qualitatively in response to treatment with varying light exposure times. The treatments given were 3 variations of light and dark exposure and 5 repetitions with variations P1: 20 hours of light: 4 hours of dark (20T; 4G) P2: 16 hours of light: 8 hours of dark (16T; 8G), and P3: 12 hours light : 12 hours dark (12T; 12G). The analysis results showed that red tilapia had a positive growth response, characterized by an increase in fish length and weight, caused by increased metabolism due to an increase in feed consumption rate. Fish behavior changed compared to the control group due to physiological stress caused by prolonged exposure to light.

Abstract

This community service initiative seeks to enhance the institutional capacity and professionalism of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) via a strategic methodology that includes initial assessment, interactive workshops, intense mentoring, and facilitation of business partnership execution. The activities were conducted in eight villages within Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. The employed methodologies encompassed participative analyses of BUMDes profiles, training in the formulation of work plans and business ideas, and the enhancement of branding strategies. The findings indicated that all BUMDes successfully developed strategic documents, including firm profiles, collaboration proposals, and SWOT analyses. Five BUMDes have initiated preliminary collaborations with neighboring enterprises. The primary obstacles encountered consist of insufficient human resource capability, restricted technological utilization, and scant managerial expertise. This program enhances both technical and administrative capabilities while fostering the establishment of sustainable collaborative networks between villages and the corporate sector. Additional proposals encompass training in corporate digitization, mentoring in negotiation, and the establishment of a more flexible organizational structure. This program aims to serve as a prototype for village empowerment through strategic partnerships and enhanced institutional capacity, which may be replicated in other locations.

Abstract

Forest and land fires are recurring environmental problems in Musi Banyuasin Regency, particularly in areas dominated by forest landscapes and peatlands. This community engagement activity aimed to enhance community understanding and awareness of forest and land fire prevention and management through an educational and participatory socialization approach. The activity was conducted in Muara Merang Village, Bayung Lencir Subdistrict, and Pangkalan Bulian Village, Batanghari Leko Subdistrict, involving 45 participants representing village governments, Fire Care Community groups, farmer and forest farmer groups, youth organizations, and women’s groups. The implementation stages included an initial assessment and site selection, coordination with village stakeholders, pre-test administration, delivery of conceptual and technical materials, participatory discussions, and evaluation through post-test. The results indicate that the community’s initial understanding of forest and land fires was relatively adequate, with an average pre-test score of 6.2, although the understanding remained partial. After the socialization activity, participants’ understanding increased significantly, as reflected by an average post-test score of 9.25. Participatory discussions further revealed community needs for institutional strengthening, more intensive training, adequate equipment support, and sustainable land management alternatives without burning practices. These findings highlight the importance of community-based approaches as an initial step in strengthening local preparedness and sustainable forest and land fire prevention at the village level.
