Abstract

The title of this research is "The use of Adverbs ‘Chittomo’, ‘Kesshite’ and ‘Zenzen’ by Japanese People in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo". This research aims to know the structure, function, meaning and usage of adverbs "chittomo, kesshite and zenzen" based on the results of questionnaire. This research uses quantitative method with the questionnaire as data source. Structural and functional analysis using Verhaar (2010) word structure theory. Meaning analysis uses Chaer (2014) contextual meaning theory, which refers to the concepts of “chittomo”, “kesshite” and “zenzen” by Sunakawa (1998) and Makoto (2003). The results of this research indicated that “chittomo” can be combined with a negative form. Found 27 data “chittomo” to explain verbs, 25 data explain adjectives and 3 data to explain nouns. “Chittomo” contains the meaning of negation, personal judgment and dissatisfaction of a thing. Then “kesshite” can be combined with negative form and prohibition. Found 50 data “kesshite” explain verbs, 8 data explain adjectives and 2 data to explain nouns. “Kesshite” expresses the meaning of negation, the determination or strong desire of speaker and expression of prohibition. Furthermore, “zenzen” can be combined with negative or positive forms. Found 30 data “zenzen” explain verbs, 29 data explain adjectives and 5 data to explain nouns. “Zenzen” has the meaning of negation, personal judgment and dissatisfaction of a thing.

Abstract

The title of this research is “Onomatopoeia Used by Japanese Food Blogger on Social Media site Instagram”. This research focuses on the form, function and meaning contained in onomatopoeia used by Japanese food bloggers on Social Media site Instagram. The theories used in this study are The Onomatopoeia Theory by Toshiko and Hoshino (1995: vi), Theory of Grammatical Onomatopoeic Functions by Fukuda(2003) and Semantic Theory by Chaer (2009)The results obtained in this study are that of the 25 data discussed there were 21 pieces of onomatopoeia data of the type of gitaigo and 4 pieces of onomatopoeia data of type giongo. And not all the same onomatopoeia always have the same grammatical function. In general, onomatopoeia meaning will change when the position of onomatopoeia as an adverbial in the relative clause in the sentence is to explain the noun that follows it.

Abstract

This research is titled “The Contrastive of Japanese and Balinese Compound Words”. The research analyzed the connection and meaning between each elements both Japanese and Balinese compound words; furthermore, the similarities and diferentiations between them. This research used morphology theory by Ramlan (2009), semantic theory by Kridalaksana (2001) and contrastive linguistics by Pranowo (1996). The results of this research showed that the elements’ connection of Japanese compound words consist of complementary connection, explaination connection and opposite connection. The elements’ connection of Balinese compound words are described as follows: the first element is explained by second element;moreover, they coordinate each others, one of the elements is unique morphem; in addition, the first element explain the second element. Both compound words made an idiom, semi idiom, and non idiom meaning. It found that Japanese and Balinese compound words have a similarities in some connections such as explanation connection and opposite connection (coordinate element in Balinese), which made an idiom, semi idiom and non idiom meaning; moreover, formed by free morphem and got an affixes. Another diferentiation in Japanese compound words there is an additional complementary connection, besides, there is an elements that have a phonemic change, addition and removal when they are combined. The elements could be a word which has renyoukei process,and conjugation; further, there are a compound words that elements are read in kunyomi and onyomi. Meanwhile, in Balinese compound words, one of the elements could be a unique morpheme.

Abstract

This study entitled “Stylistics Found in Kaneko Misuzu’s Poem Kyonen no Kyou” focused on identifying and understanding kinds and functions of language style found in this literary work. Stylistic theory proposed by Al-Ma’ruf (2009) and rhetoric theory proposed by Seto (2002) were applied. As a result, it was identified that Kyonen no Kyou poem is expressed by the author clearly and in detail by using characteristic style and diction related to children. The language style is functioned to emphasize respect, to raise certain meaning and context, and to concretize speech.

Abstract

The tittle of this thesis is “Study of Semiotics On Got?chi Forumuk?do Postcard Design in Toyama Prefecture”. The purpose of this research is to reveal signifier and signified on Got?chi Forumuk?do postcard design in Toyama Prefecture from verbal and visual structure signs. The analysis of this research uses Semiotics Theory according to Sudjiman and Zoest (1996) used for reveal signifier and signified and verbal and visual structure. The data source using 9 (nine) Got?chi Forumuk?do postcards in Toyama Prefecture released from 2009 to 2017/2018. Data collection uses library study method and then observation and note taking technique. The analysis uses descriptive analytic method and informal method according to (Sudaryanto 1993:135). The result shows that the interaction of verbal and visual signs creates verbal and visual messages that are interrelated. Through on the signs of verbal and visual is able to visualized signifier and signified from each postcard designs so that the messages can be well conveyed.

Abstract

The tittle of this research is ”the aspects of compound verb kiru, nuku, and toosu that used in daily japanese by Japanese people in Bali” that aimed to research the form, type, grammatical meaning and substitution of compound verb kiru, nuku, and toosu in daily Japanese that used by Japanese people in Bali. This research was analysed using descriptive method, formal and informal technique. Form and the type of compound verb kiru, nuku, and toosu reference analysis used syntax theory by Chaer (2012). Compound verb comprehension refers to Takanao (1984). Grammatical meaning was analysed using grammatical verb theory by Pateda (2001) and grammatical meaning concept of compound verb kiru, nuku, toosu by Kurita (2015), Himeno (1980), Yoshiyuki (1977) dan Kindaichi (1976). Result of this reasearch is compound verbs kiru, nuku and toosu can form continous, repetitive and prefective aspects when combined with another verbs that showing aspect and used in renyoukei form. These verb should be keizoku doushi, shunkan doushi and joutai doushi. Based on analysis result, compound words kiru, nuku, and toosu in Japanese grammatically means event ended intentionally, event occured unexpectedly, event as the lastest limit, and activity is carried out continuously until finished. Based on the analysis result known that compound verb kiru, nuku, and toosu have the same grammatical meaning and should be substituted. Viewed from japanese grammatical perspectives, the compound verbkiru, nuku, and toosu explained the event carried out continuously until the end and explained that the activity done repeatedly until finished.

Abstract

This research describes the meanings and message contained in the Himawari songs by Kawasaki Futoshi and Akimoto Yasushi. The data analyzed using descriptive analysis method. This research used the theory of semiotics by Riffaterre (1978) and the theory of moral by Nurgiyantoro (1995). Based on the analysis, the meaning of Himawari song by Kawasaki Futoshi are indicates the spirit to endure our life. Meanwhile, the meaning of Himawari song by Akimoto Yasushi are indicates the hopes that had grown in ourselves and the struggle to achieve a bright future. The messages contained in both Himawari lyrics are divided into two, namely: explicit and implicit.

Abstract

The research entitled “The usage of Gyakusetsu no Setsuzokushi in Tobu ga Gotoku Novel by Ryoutarou Shiba”. The theories used for analyzing are syntax theory by Verhaar (2012) and semantics theory by Pateda (2001). As the result, gyakusetsu no setsuzokushi daga is connected with noun and used when expresses that is contrasted with what is expressed in the previous sentence. Then, gyakusetsu no setsuzokushi shikashi is connected with the first clause and first sentence. This conjunction used when the sentence is oposite and used when disagree with other people opinion. Gyakusetsu no setsuzokushi ga is connected with first clause and first sentence. This conjunction is used when using to connect the oposite sentence, it’s using to sort event and used to describe expression. Setsuzokushi to wa ie connected with first clause and first sentence. This conjunction used to connected two oposite sentence, and used when to expect something. Then, gyakusetsu no setszokushi tadashi, mottomo and tokoroga is connected with first sentence. Setsuzokushi tadashi is used when expresses that is contrasted with previous sentence. Gyakusetsu no setsuzokushi mottomo used to add a comment indicating that what the people has just expressed is not sufficient. Then, tokoroga which is used to present what in fact the case when something else was expected.

Abstract

This research entitled “The Usage of Tenka no Setsuzokushi in Norwei no Mori’s Novel by Haruki Muraki”. This research reviewing about the structure and meaning of Tenka no Setsuzkushi. The theory used for analyzing refer to the Makino and Tsutsui opinion (1994) and Pateda (2001). Based on the data analysis, the result of this research represent that omakeni, shikamo,soshite, sonoue, sorekara, soreni, and mata can be constructed with clause 1 and clause 2, word 1 and word 2, godan dooshi, ichidan dooshi, henkaku dooshi, meishi and keiyooshi but can’t constructed with nakeiyooshi. Omakeni has two type of meaning which is put in a row the same thing and give an additional information about something. At the same time shikamo has one type of meaning which is give an important additional imformation about something. Beside that this research also found the meaning of soshite, which is continuited an incident based on the memory. At the same time sorekara expressed an incident based on the time sequence. Sonoue has a meaning that give an important additional information about sometinng that usually used on formal form. While soreni has a meaning that give an additional information about something but on the informal form. Mata has a meaning that expressed an additional action from the same subject.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the translation strategies used to render the metaphors into Indonesian and to identify the types of shifts found in the translation of novel “Kaze No Uta Wo Kike”. Data were collected through library research by note taking of the metaphors found in the data source.The theory by Larson (1998) was applied to analyze the meaning of metaphor. By following Catford theory (1965) about translation shifts, the types of shift were identified and analyzed. The result reveals the followings. First, all types of strategies occurred in this translation, they were translated into metaphors by keeping the metaphorical image, translated into simile, translated into non figurative meaning with or without keeping metaphorical imagery, translated into metaphor of receptor language, and translated by add the meaning explained. Second, there are three types of translation shift occurred in this translation, namely level shift, structure shift and unit shift.
