Abstract

This research aims to find out the Japanese rhetorics and contextual meanings in the Kaze no Uta wo Kike novels by Haruki Murakami. The data was analyzed using the descriptive analysis method. This research employs the theory of Japanese rhetorics by Seto Kenichi (2003) and the theory of contextual meaning by Mansoer Pateda (2010). There are 48 Japanese language styles in this novel. Rhetorical meanings of 38 data, rhetorical forms of 6 data and rhetorical structure of 4 data. Contextual meanings which consist of seven parts are discovered, namely : 7 data of human context, 19 data of situation context, 4 data of mood of the speaker or listener context, 4 data of time context, 1 data of setting of place context, 13 data of object context, and 1 data in linguistic context. In conclusion, the use of rhetorics in this novel serves to convey and determine a topic of conversation. The aforementioned topics of discussions are: the physical characteristics of a person, character, nature and circumstances that occur in the story. It aims to assist the readers to easily understand the meanings of Japanese rhetorics.

Abstract

The study, entitled "Refusal in Japanese and Balinese" aims to find out the refusal strategies in Japanese and Balinese contained in Japanese novels Narataaju and Balinese novels Sentana.The theory used in this study is the theory of Refusal Strategy according to Beebe et al. (1990) and Theory of Determination of Politeness Factors according to Mizutani and Mizutani (1987). This research uses descriptive analysis method in presenting data.The analysis shows that in Narataaju's novel there are three strategies of refusal. Three data with direct refusal strategy, five data with indirect refusal strategy, and two data with mixed refusal strategy. Factors influencing refusal in Japanese are social relations and intimacy. There are six forms of rejection strategies in Japanese. In the Balinese novel Sentana there are also three strategies of refusal. Two data with direct refusal strategy, four data with indirect refusal strategy and two data with mixed refusal strategy. Factors influencing refusal in Balinese are situation, social status, and age. From the results of the study found two similarities and one difference in the refusal in Japanese and Balinese. Abstract

The title of this research is “Formation and Meaning on Gitaigo of Handa Kun Comic by Satsuki Yoshino” that aimed to explain the forming process and meaning on gitaigo of Handa Kun comic 1-7 volume by Satsuki Yoshino. The problem in this research was analyzed by using formal method and informal technique. Gitaigo formation analysis used Japanese morphology theory by Tsujimura (1996) and characteristic of Japanese onomatopoeia by Akimoto (2002). While the gitaigo meaning analysis used semantic property theory by Chaer (2015a). The result of this research is on Handa Kun comic was found three types of gitaigo formation i.e. reduplication, affixation, and compounding. Furthermore, the characteristic of onomatopoeia that found are hanpuku, sokuon, choo’on, hatsuon, and -ri morpheme addition. Then, inheritance elements and additional elements was found in each gitaigo. Through additional elements found, there is an expansion meaning or constriction meaning can be known in the words that formed by gitaigo.

Abstract

The research entitled "Translation Method and Ideology of Organ Kanyouku in Akutagawa Ryuunosuke's Short Story “Kappa" is aimed to study the methods and ideologies of translation applied in Akutagawa Ryuunosuke's short story, Kappa. The data source of the study is a short story entitled “Kappa” written by Akutagawa Ryuunosuke. This research was analyzed using the descriptive analysis method. The analysis of the translation method uses the method of translation theory by Newmark (1988), the ideology of translation theory by Venuti (2000) and the translation shift theory by Nida and Taber (1982). The results of this research indicates that in translating 19 kanyouku found in the data source. The translators only use five out of eight translation method proposed, there are two kanyouku use the communication translation method, 11 kanyouku use free translation methods, two kanyouku use the adaptation translation method; one kanyouku uses word for word translation method; and three kanyouku use the literal translation method. Regarding the ideology of translation by Venuti (2000), the results of this study indicates that there are 15 kanyouku that are translated through domestication and four kanyouku are translated through foreignization.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the forms of errors made by the 3rd semester 2016 students of Japanese Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University in understanding and using the words with the kanji letters found in the Intermediate Kanji Book Vol. 1. The problems discussed in this study, namely 1) what is the fault of students in understanding and using words with starch in the Intermediate Kanji Book Vol. 1; 2) how to overcome errors in understanding and using words with kanji in the Intermediate Kanji Book Vol. 1. The purpose of this study is to find out the forms of errors made by students in understanding and using words with kanji in the Intermediate Kanji Book Vol. And find a way to overcome these errors. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with documentation method and test method which is continued with note taking technique. The documentation method in this study is a collection of questions that have been filled in with answers by informants. While the test method is an instrument of data collection through a series of questions / exercises distributed to students. The population in this study were all students of the 3rd Semester of the 2016 Class of Japanese Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences Universitas Udayana. The determination of the population is based on the consideration that the 3rd semester 2016 students have been taught material contained in the Intermediate Kanji Book Vol. 1. Through this research, the forms of student errors mentioned above will be able to be broken down and find solutions to overcome them. And the results of this study can be used as teaching materials for lecturers and study materials for students majoring in Japanese literature.

Abstract

This research entitled "The Translation Method of Figurative Language in Spiritual Songs by Lauren Kaori" Aims of this research is to find out the types of figure of speech contained in Lauren Kaori's spiritual songs as well as figurative langugage of translation methods used in translating figure of speech on spiritual songs by Lauren Kaori. This research was analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. The theory used in this research is figurative language theory according to Seto (2002), and figurative language theory according to Knickerbockers and Reninger (1963), Newmark's theory of translation methods (1998). Sources of data for this research were taken from Lauren Kaori's YouTube channel, including Cory Asbury's “Reckless Love”, Elevation Worship's “O Come To The Altar”, Hillsong Worship's “What A Beautiful Name”, Bethel Worship's “King Of My Heart” , “10000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)” by Matt Redman, “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” by Hillsong United. The results of this study indicate 1). hyperbolic figures of speech, metaphor, personification, tautology, synesthesia, and seven data were also found to experience a shift in translation results in translating language from BSu into BSa. 2). The translation method used is the free method, the semantic method, the communicative method, word to word method, and the literal method.

Abstract

The research was titled "The Behavior of Orphanage Children in the Drama Ashita, Mama ga Inai by Saya Matsuda". Research aims to know the living environment of the orphanage children, behavior of orphanage children at the time of trial before and after the trial with the adoptive parents. The study used literary psychology theory from Endaswara and the theory of behaviorism of B. F Skinner. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative. The results of the analyzing show orphanage children’s simply life. being the countryside and the orphanage living the life with responsibility. The orphanage children’s behavior are describes as having undergone trials with new adoptive parents, a changes due to the uncomfortable feeling of affection given by adoptive parents. The cause of the inconvenience is because the children had previously suffered trauma after being abandoned by their biological parents.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dimotivasi oleh fonemena kenaikan jumlah wisatawan asing asal Prancis yang berkunjung ke Bali, akan tetapi, hal tersebut tidak diikuti dengan kesiapan sumber daya manusia yang layak untuk melayani kebutuhan wisatawan tersebut. Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Universitas Udayana berencana untuk membuka Program Studi Sastra Prancis sebagai bentuk tanggung jawab institusi terhadap masyarakat sebagai penyedia sumberdaya manusia yang terdidik dan terlatih. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuisioner yang disebar ke sekolah menengah atas di Bali yang memiliki jurusan bahasa. Data-data yang terkumpul kemudian diklasifikasikan berdasarkan pertanyaan yang telah disiapkan untuk mengetahui persepsi dan keminatan murid sekolah menengah umum terhadap rencana dibukanya program studi bahasa Prancis. Data yang telah terkumpul menunjukkan responden memiliki minat yang tinggi terhadap bahasa Prancis, dan memiliki respon positif terhadap rencana pembukaan Program Studi Bahasa Prancis, di Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, UNUD.

Abstract

The study of dialectology focuses on language variations based on geographic variables or geographical dialects so that it is known as the study of dialectical geography or linguistic geography but in its development, the study of dialectology extends to language variants based on social variables resulting in social dialectology (Chmabers & Petyt 1980). The social dialects that arise from the layers of society cause variations in the pronunciation of a sound or word in a language. Bali in particular Denpasar is a small city with a heterogeneous society so that inevitably the contacts of the language of the settlers with native speakers. The occurrence of these influences is related to extralinguistic and linguistic factors (intralinguistik). The linguistic (extralinguistic) situation associated with the person to whom the speaker is speaking, the topic of conversation, and the impulse of the speaker, such as the urge to be parallel / acceptable in the use of language by other speakers of language is the social reason of a person using other language elements. In addition, the factor of readiness or ease of pronunciation of certain language elements is the language factor of a person using other language elements. Ethnic differences result in differences in sound or phonological systems that are adapted to give rise to a dialect. The existence of ethnic Javanese and ethnic Balinese on the island of Bali is characterized by phonological differences that occur in a speech or communication so that withoutintroducingourselveswealreadyknowtheoriginofthesespeakersfromJavaorfromBali.

Abstract

This research entitled Negation In Balinese Language Dialects Nusa Penida. This study aims to describe the expression of negation in the dialect of Nusa Penida. The Balinese dialect of Nusa Penida has its own distinctive features when compared with the Balinese language in general. Limitations to be achieved in this study is the determination of negation in the dialect of Nusa Penida. This review provides information about the negatives in Balinese dialect of Nusa Penida. The research method used is a descriptive method and interview technique. (Mahsun, 2005). The conclusion of this research is that the form of negation in the dialect of Bali Nusa Penida language is expressed lexically namely ndek, tare, bohung, au nah, and tare enden. While ndek and tare both have the meaning of 'no'. Both can also replace each other in the construction of certain sentences such as sentence prohibitions and sentences that states never. The word bohung has inherent meaning 'not so'. This word can not be replaced. The word au nah has two meaning 'no tau (pasti)' and 'tidak tau (ragu)'. While tare enden has meaning of 'not yet'.
