Abstract

Science learning in Early Childhood Education (ECE) serves as a crucial foundation for developing children’s critical thinking skills and curiosity. However, its implementation often encounters challenges related to topic selection, teaching methods, and limited resources. This study aims to analyze the science activities being taught, the learning resources used, and the challenges faced by ECE teachers in Bandung City and Bandung Regency. Using a multi-case study approach, the research involved classroom observations and in-depth interviews conducted in 17 ECE institutions, with data analyzed thematically. Findings indicate that the most commonly taught science topics are colors and water, delivered through simple experiments using physical materials. In contrast, complex concepts such as human anatomy and engineering are rarely addressed due to teachers' limited understanding and the lack of instructional media. Key challenges include low levels of teacher scientific literacy, inadequate facilities, and the developmental characteristics of young learners that require adaptive approaches. These findings highlight the need for practice-based teacher training, the development of innovative learning media, and multi-stakeholder collaboration to support effective science instruction. This study offers practical contributions for educators, policymakers, and researchers in designing higher-quality and more sustainable science learning strategies for early childhood education.

Abstract

This study investigates the performance of an ethylene glycol/water (EG/Water) fluid at a 40:60 volume ratio, a commonly used base fluid in heating and cooling systems. The evaluation focuses on analyzing heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops. The research adopts an experimental approach, utilizing a test section made of pure copper with an inner diameter of 16 mm, an outer diameter of 19 mm, and a length of 1500 mm. The volume ratio of EG/Water at 40:60 is an input parameter, along with varying fluid flow rates controlled by a valve, ranging from 2 to 18 liters per minute. Two tubular heaters with a combined capacity of 2000 W are attached to the copper pipe, regulated by a 3000 W voltage regulator. Electric current is measured with ammeters. The experimental results reveal that the heat transfer coefficient of the EG/Water fluid increases as the fluid flow rate rises. The highest heat transfer coefficient is achieved at 18 L/min, while the lowest is observed at 4 L/min. Pressure drop increases with higher flow rates, but this does not significantly affect the friction factor, as it undergoes a noticeable decrease while the Reynolds number increases.

Abstract

Teaching Pancasila Education in the digital era presents challenges, particularly in conveying abstract concepts to Grade V elementary school students who are in the concrete operational stage of cognitive development. To address this issue, innovative and engaging learning media are needed. This study aimed to develop and evaluate flipbook-based digital comic media to enhance student learning outcomes in Pancasila Education at SDN 04 Paduraksa Pemalang. A modified Borg and Gall Research and Development (RD) model was employed, consisting of eight systematic stages, from problem identification to product testing. The development process included expert validation and user testing on two scales: a small group of 6 students and a larger group of 22 students. The media received high feasibility ratings from both material experts (85%) and media experts (93.73%), placing it in the "very good" category. Student and teacher response questionnaires showed very positive feedback, with satisfaction scores of 87% and 95%, respectively. Learning outcomes improved significantly, with the average pretest score increasing from 51.59 to 86.14 in the posttest. The calculated N-Gain score of 0.73 indicates a “moderately effective” level of improvement. The flipbook-based digital comic effectively integrates narration, visuals, and animation to simplify abstract Pancasila concepts, making them more accessible and engaging for elementary students. These findings suggest that this media provides a practical and enjoyable alternative to traditional learning methods, contributing to improved educational outcomes in civic education.
