Abstract

Graphs are an excellent instrument that provides an algebraic structure for visualizing and interpreting molecule structures and characteristics. As a result, the problem statement arises regarding how we can interpret graphs with eigenvalues concerning their corresponding matrices. Such questions can be answered by studying spectral graph theory. This research focuses on graphs whose vertex sets are group elements in which the structure of ℤn groups and the definition of a prime coprime graph serve as the foundation for the graph building used in this study. The matrix construction of the graph is based on transmission-based matrices including Weiner-Hosoya and distance signless Laplacian matrices. Research methods include investigating the transmission properties and formulation of the characteristic equation using block matrices. The results obtained are a comprehensive analysis of eigenvalues, spectrum, and spectral radius leading to the prime coprime graph energy for ℤn groups corresponding to both matrices.

Abstract

Hygiene and sanitation are inseparable components of environmental health. Gegutu Reban Hamlet, Dasan Geria Village, is one of the areas in West Lombok facing challenges in sanitation management due to the annual increase in population due to the clearing of agricultural and plantation land for new settlements. The main problem currently being faced is low public awareness and knowledge of environmental health, which results in low active participation in managing environmental sanitation. Furthermore, standard operating procedures for hygiene and sanitation in the village do not exist and have never been established. For this reason, community service activities were carried out with the aim of increasing awareness, knowledge and the level of active participation of the community in managing environmental health in Gegutu Reban Hamlet, Dasan Griya Village, West Lombok. The activities were carried out using lecture, focused groupe discussion, demonstration, practice and ongoing mentoring methods for the target audience, which included housewives, farmer representatives and youth representatives. The monitoring results showed that participants were very enthusiastic about participating in this activity. Participants' awareness and knowledge about maintaining environmental health increased. The accuracy of participants' skills in carrying out several practiced hygiene and sanitation actions also increased. This activity also produced a draft SOP for hygiene and sanitation management that can be implemented by local residents, especially in Gegutu Reban Hamlet, Dasan Griya Village, West Lombok.

Abstract

The problem of organic waste in the environment can be overcome by using organic waste bioconversion technology using maggots. This technology produces a by-product in the form of leachate that can be used as Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC). On the other hand, research on the effect of maggots on the quality and quantity of POC produced has not been widely studied. This study aims to 1). determine the quality of POC based on the concentration of N, P and K; 2). Determine the quantity of POC based on the volume of POC. The method used is an experimental method with the treatment of organic waste conversion using maggots (M1) and without maggots (M0). Each treatment was repeated 4 times. Data were analyzed using the t-independent test with the help of the SPSS version 22 application. The time of this research was carried out in May 2024 - July 2024. The location of the research was carried out at the Lingsar Regional Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPSTR) and the Soil Chemistry Laboratory of the University of Mataram. The results of this study indicate that the quality of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) in M1 is better than M0. The content of N (nitrogen), P (phosphorus) and K (potassium) in M1 were 0.14%, 0.11%, and 0.17% respectively, while M0 was 0.11%, 0.06%, and 0.09% respectively. The t-independent test showed that there was a significant difference between M0 and M1. The content of N, P and K in this study was still below the standard quality values based on the Decree of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 261/KPTS/SR.310/M/4/2019 concerning Minimum Technical Requirements for Organic Fertilizers, Biological Fertilizers and Soil Improvers.

Abstract

Developing composite beads composed of chitosan, alginate, and activated carbon for dye removal is essential due to their improved adsorption capabilities and environmental benefits. By utilizing natural resources efficiently for an effective dye removal process, this study developed an activated carbon/alginate/chitosan composite bead as Rhemazole Brilliant Blue R (RBBR) adsorbent. The surface shape of composites exhibits more protrusions, grooves, and asymmetric pores than activated carbon, which could improve dye adsorption capability. FTIR analysis verified that functional groups such as OH, NH, protonated amine, and carboxylate from the constituent polymers were enriched in the activated carbon/alginate/chitosan composite. These groups also function as active sites for adsorbents. It was aligned with the composite beads' Freundlich isotherm model, which shows that heterogeneous or many active sites contribute to adsorption and provide multilayer adsorption. The kinetic model of pseudo-second order fits well with the adsorption process, indicating that chemisorption is the rate-limiting step in RBBR adsorption. The optimum adsorption conditions were at pH 1, with an adsorbent dose of 0.08 g, RBBR dye concentration of 125 mg/L, and a contact time of 60 min. The composite beads also exhibit stability in acidic and basic solutions, with the effectiveness of being reused up to four times, providing a reusable adsorbent with versatility in various water treatment conditions. Hence, synthesizing activated carbon/alginate/chitosan composite beads presents a promising solution for sustainable wastewater treatment based on biodegradable and eco-friendly composite.

Abstract

In this study, rambutan (Nephelium Lappaceum L.) seeds were used to fabricate green carbon dots (gCDs) by employing a hydrothermal process. The synthesized CDs were evaluated using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) for the structural properties as well as UV-Vis and fluorescence spectrophotometry for the optical properties. UV-Vis examination revealed that the produced gCDs showed emission-dependent photoluminescence excitation, with two absorption peaks at 265 nm and 330 nm. The presence of functional groups and chemical composition such as C=C, C=O, -COOH, and -OH on the surface of gCDs was confirmed by the results of FTIR and XPS spectra. Consequently, gCDs present several opportunities for exploration in a range of applications.

Abstract

Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is one of the most popular and commonly used petroleum-derived thermoplastics for packaging. The large production of LDPE has an environmental impact. Reducing production can be done by recycling LDPE (r-LDPE) and adding organic fibres as a filler that is easily decomposed. Cattle farming solid waste as a fibre source was mixed with r-LDPE with coupling agent maleic anhydride (MA). Before use, the cow manure was processed through a bleaching and hemicellulose removal process, which resulted in Cow Manure Fiber (CMF). The CMF was analyzed using FTIR spectroscopy and microscopic fibre dimension analysis. The FTIR results showed peaks at wavenumbers 3538 and 1056 cm-1, representing the -OH, -C-O and -CH functional groups from the cellulose structure. The resulting composites were tested for physical properties, including elastic modulus, yield stress, and elongation. Pure LDPE material was also used for comparison. The best physical properties of the composites were obtained by composites with 95% r-LDPE, 5% CMF, and 2% MA.
