Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Solid waste management, which always ends in landfills, causes various environmental and socio-economic impacts. Tegal City also experiences overcapacity landfill conditions because the waste management model focuses on landfills. This study aims to identify existing waste management regulations and how EPR can become a policy framework to achieve waste management beyond landfills. The result explains that by regulation, the government has regulated the flow of solid waste management by prioritizing the 3R principles, starting from the transportation process, sorting at TPS/TPST, and even processing to become a product with economic value. However, in the end, all this waste still ends up in landfill. From the government's perspective, this is due to the need to integrate responsibilities between the government, society, and producers. Producer responsibility must be fully implemented in waste management. However, several regulations have yet to regulate the form of waste management that producers can carry out the responsibility of producers as specifically to be responsible for the product until it ends up as waste. In addition, this study illustrates that EPR as a policy framework for waste management can be applied in other cities, primarily if the government's point of view supports the division of responsibilities for waste management.

Abstract

Human population growth, the rapid development of urban areas, and climate change were causing a scarcity of freshwater resources. Providing water and sanitation is important to protect the health during a pandemic. However, North Jakarta still faces problems in meeting the water demands of its residents. The COVID-19 pandemic expands the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals living in poverty and without access to health services, water, sanitation, and adequate housing, especially for women. During the COVID-19 pandemic, woman's responsibilities became even heavier; aside from paying attention to their safety and health, women were often burdened with domestic roles towards their families and their responsibility for collecting water supplies for the household. This study examines the situation of women's vulnerability in household water management in the urban environment of North Jakarta, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. A quantitative approach with descriptive statistical analysis was used in this study. The result of this study portrays women's vulnerability in household water management during the COVID-19 pandemic in North Jakarta in two categories, 49.26% have a high level of vulnerability, and 50.74% have a low level of vulnerability. The level of exposure, sensitivity, and response capacity assessed the vulnerability components. This study is expected to be a reference for sustainable water management, considering gender roles and conditions in urban environments, especially during disasters.

Abstract

The ever increasing human population demands more extraction of freshwater to fulfill our basic needs. This put more pressure to the already limited water resource. The previous studies about water governance concludes that local community needs to be actively involved in an integrated water resource management (IWRM) in order to maintain sustainability. Balinese has long been known as community which always preserve water due to their belief in their local wisdom. This article aims to investigate how Balinese local wisdom play its role in the water governance. The social survey study was conducted using descriptive analysis. The data was collected in Badung District of Bali Province with purposive sampling of 100 respondents who live in Badung for the last 10 years and of 17 years old above. The result of the study shows that Balinese may not really aware about Tri Hita Karana and Sad Kertih, but they are practising its principle in their daily life. Balinese respect water as part of nature which must be preserved.
