Abstract

Washing hands is important to prevent various infectious diseases, including Covid-19. School-age children are a population at risk who must practice proper hand hygiene. This study aims to examine the effect of Transmission-Based Precaution (TBP) on knowledge and practice of hand washing in school age children. A total of 20 schoolchildren living in Islamic boarding schools participated in this study. Education is carried out in one meeting. The data was collected by filling out a questionnaire on knowledge and hand washing practices pre and post education. The results showed that providing TPB education increased knowledge about hand washing (p = 0.010), but it was not significant for hand washing practices (p = 0.282). Increasing knowledge should also pay attention to the attitude of school children in hand washing behavior. The process of providing education will be more embedded in school children after repeatedly implementing hand washing properly. The teachers and classmates involved can participate in hygiene education to encourage the hand washing behavior of students in areas at high risk of infectious diseases, especially Covid-19.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) transmission awareness is crucial for TB prevention in the community. However, efforts to prevent TB transmission from TB patients’ perspectives, especially in the rural area, are not well documented. This study aimed to explore the efforts made by TB patients in preventing transmission to the community. This research was qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Participants in this study were 12 people selected by purposive sampling. Data collection was done by in-depth interviews and recorded. Data analysis was carried out by thematic analysis. This study produced seven themes: perception of TB disease, performing alternative treatments, using personal protective equipment, environmental modification, adhering to treatment, limiting interactions with others, and increasing food intake. Knowledge and awareness of TB patients are still an issue in preventing the transmission of TB in the community. Immediate intervention needs to be made regarding increasing knowledge and awareness of TB patients and the supervision of health workers regularly in handling TB disease in the community.

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between teenagers' thoughts and self-control in safe smartphone use in the Covid-19 pandemic era. Methods: This study was a descriptive correlation design based on a cross-sectional approach. The population was teenagers aged 11-18 years in Surabaya, Indonesia who had participated in online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The purposive sampling was conducted and gained 185 respondents. The study variables were teenagers' thoughts and self-control in using smartphones. The instrument used was a questionnaire and the data were analyzed using the Spearmen Rank test. Results: The statistical test results showed that a good thought of teenagers was related to high self-control in using a smartphone (p = 0.000, r =0.371). Conclusion: The teenager’s thought in smartphone usage was formed based on benefits, barrier, beliefs, and the consequences of online learning activities. The teenagers’ awareness will lead to a good self-control for limiting the smartphones usage independently. Further research should be focused on the development of a safe smartphone usage guidance that can assist teens to be able to use the smartphone safely.

This study used a qualitative phenomenology design to assess the adolescent’s experience of gender-based violence. The participants were 15 female adolescents aged 15-18. Participants were interviewed using semi-structured in-depth interviews. The qualitative data obtained were transcribed and analyzed using the Colaizzi approach. The results were structured into four themes according to the adolescent experiences of violence. The themes were the violence experienced; Victim’s efforts to deal with the violent incident; Barriers to not reporting or telling others; hope and desire for violence prevention. This study highlights that almost the majority of female adolescent was disclosed to tell other people about incidents of violence. Adolescents tend to feel self-blame and consider that the violent behavior happened because of their fault. Abstract

Introduction: The increasing overuse of smartphones among children is a troubling addiction that affects both their physical well-being and mental health. It can lead to mood swings, withdrawal symptoms, emotional discomfort, and increased anxiety in social situations. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between smartphone addiction and anxiety levels among students at Pawyatan Daha Elementary School in Kediri, East Java. Methods: This study utilized a cross-sectional design with a simple random sampling method involving 154 students from Pawyatan Daha Elementary School in Kediri, East Java. Data collection occurred from November to December 2022. The independent variable in this research was smartphone addiction, assessed using the Smartphone Addiction Risk Children Questionnaire (SARCQ). In contrast, the dependent variable was anxiety, measured by the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS). Data analysis was conducted using Spearman's rho test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Result: The findings indicated that a majority of respondents (77.3%) fell into the high category of smartphone addiction, while 52.6% were identified as experiencing general anxiety disorders. Statistical analysis revealed a significant correlation, with a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.005) and an R-value of 0.330. Conclusions: The study concludes that there is a correlation between smartphone addiction and anxiety among school-aged children. Parents must supervise their children's smartphone usage to foster character development and prevent addictive behaviors. Abstract

Individual attributes, such as educational background, may influence the degree of health consideration in food consumption. The local social norms may affect the same consideration in the collective level. Represented by education level and the custom rules adherence in food choosing behavior, this study aimed to examine how knowledge influences health consideration in food consumption and how the local social norms moderate this association in a multicultural enriched society. By utilizing the Bayesian Mindsponge Framework (BMF) as a conceptual framework, this study analyzed a dataset of 710 urban residents in Indonesia. There was a negative association between education level and health consideration in food consumption in which the custom rules adherence in food choosing behavior moderated against this negative association. For those with a low level of custom-based food consumption, their health consideration is lower as they have higher education level. However, the opposite trend which is a more intuitive positive association was found in those who consume more custom-based food. Socio-cultural factors have a complex impact on food choosing behavior among Indonesian urban residents. Therefore, governmental policies in the health promotion campaign of healthy-nutritious food should incorporate socio-cultural aspects with a deeper understanding of the human mind’s information processing.

The results of this systematic review were 114 articles from five databases: 46 articles in Scopus, 28 articles in PubMed, 20 articles in Science Direct, 10 articles from PsycoINFO, and 10 articles from Google Scholar. The results of the selection of articles that met the inclusion criteria were 10 articles, then given serial numbers and analysis of the articles was carried out to facilitate the review process. Selected articles will be presented in PRISMA format. The prevalence of schizophrenia was 13.20% for studies conducted in or after 2010, and 8.88% for studies conducted before 2010, while the prevalence of psychosis was 24.44%.
