Abstract

Abstract

Blunt trauma is a significant cause of death and injury worldwide. In Indonesia, traffic accidents are the leading cause of blunt trauma-related mortality and morbidity. Reports indicate that Yogyakarta alone experiences millions of accident cases, resulting in numerous injuries and fatalities. The incidence and severity of blunt trauma vary based on factors such as sex, age, lifestyle, environment, and access to healthcare. Blunt trauma, caused by strong impacts, falls, or physical assaults with blunt objects, does not involve skin penetration and includes contusions, abrasions, lacerations, and fractures. This study aims to identify the patterns of blunt trauma in the Sleman Regency in 2021 using the Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS), a research tool for collecting longitudinal data on social changes to advance scientific knowledge in healthcare through population data analysis. The research employed both univariate and bivariate analyses. Univariate analysis used a cross-sectional observational design, while bivariate analysis utilized the chi-square test. In 2021, 315 blunt trauma injuries were reported, primarily from motorbike accidents (263 cases) and other land transportation incidents (52 cases). Most victims were men (55.9%), with the adult age group (19-59 years) experiencing the majority of injuries (285 cases). Lower extremities were most frequently injured (64% of cases), often resulting in loss of motor reflexes (10.7%). Contusions on the lower extremities were the most common injury type (42.3%). The study shows a higher incidence of blunt trauma among men, particularly adults. Injuries are primarily contusions in the lower extremities, indicating the need for targeted safety measures. Demographic factors such as education level and age group influence injury distribution, highlighting the importance of effective management strategies to mitigate severe functional impacts.

Abstract

Abstract

Traffic accidents are incidents that have a high incidence and can cause great losses to society. In cases of traffic accidents, it is recorded that many non-productive ages experience serious injuries. This study aims to analyze the pattern of traffic accident injuries in the elderly in Sleman based on Sleman HDSS data for 2020-2022. This study is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study was the people of Sleman Regency aged 60 years and over. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling. Based on the analysis of 272 respondents with 401 cases of injury, it was found that the most injuries occurred in the lower limbs and the degree of injury was mild with the most types of combined injuries. For moderate and severe degrees of injury, they have the same prevalence. Burns are the type of injury with the least, namely only 1 case. The largest number of respondents were elderly people aged 60-70 years, namely 72% of the total respondents. The conclusion of this study is that minor injuries are the most common type of injury, with lower limbs being the most common location of injury and combination injuries being the most common type of injury. In the bivariate results, there was no relationship between age and type, location, and severity. This shows that type, location, and severity can occur at any age and do not differ in each age group.

Abstract

Wounds result from physical violence that damages the continuity of body tissues and are frequently observed in forensic medicine and medicolegal science. In forensic medicine and medicolegal science, wounds play a significant role in creating a medicolegal examination and report (VeR) for deceased individuals and living victims. However, research findings indicate that the quality of clinical forensic descriptive results in VeR needs to improve in several hospitals in Indonesia. Meanwhile, high-quality VeR results are crucial in determining penalties for perpetrators in court, and poor VeR results can hinder the legal process. The application of information technology in medicine has yielded numerous tools that can assist experts in carrying out their duties. Likewise, clinical forensics, a generally conservative forensic pathology practice, can be enhanced through image-processing techniques and machine learning. Digital technology support for forensic cases has been available previously, such as in forensic photography; however, its application still needs improvement, and further development is required. This study applied a Yolo V4-based machine learning and image processing algorithm to classify and detect types of wounds. This algorithm was chosen for its high speed and accuracy in classification and detection tasks. The research results showed that the learning model's performance, measured in accuracy, precision, recall, and average F1 score, reached 92%. Usability testing showed that the system performed well and could be helpful with minor improvements.
