Abstract

Technological advances in recent years have had an impact on people's lifestyles. Almost all activities in various sectors can be carried out and accessed via smartphones. This causes a decrease in physical activity which can lead to obesity. Obesity is an imbalance of energy entering the energy used in the body resulting in the accumulation of excess lipids which can interfere with the health condition of the body. Body composition is an important part of determining one's physical fitness. Body composition can be seen from a person's Body Mass Index (BMI). This type of research is analytic observational with cross sectional research design. The data used by researchers is secondary data in 2018. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The sample used in this study was 127 people, consisting of 47 men and 84 women. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 through the Spearman Analysis Test with the results of p = 0.000 (p-value <0.05) for the relationship between BMI and IKB in the slow way and p = 0.002 (p-value <0.05) for the relationship between BMI with IKB the fast way. The conclusion that can be drawn from the results of the analysis is that there is a weak correlation between body mass index and body fitness index on the Havard Step Test fitness test for students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember. Keywords: body mass index, harvard step test , physical fitness

Abstract

Antibiotics are becoming more prevalent as environmental pollutants, raising public health concerns. Antibiotics are routinely employed as growth promoters and therapeutic agents in poultry feeds. Because antibiotics are not completely metabolized in chicken body tissues, they are deposited in meat as parent compounds and eventually extruded into the environment via fowl droppings. Organic fertilizers based on chicken litter are typically recycled into the soil to improve the structure and fertility of agricultural land. Chicken litter, a vital source of nutrients for crop productivity, may also carry a variety of human infections that might endanger humans who consume contaminated food or water. A convenience sampling of five places was carried out. Litter samples were collected aseptically. CLSI standards were used to isolate E. coli and Proteus spp. The disc diffusion method was used to determine antibiotic susceptibility. E. coli and Proteus spp. were found in 80% and 60% of the samples. All E. coli and Proteus spp isolates derived from laying hen manure were resistant to sulfamethoxazole, ciprofloxacin, cefixime, tetracycline, amoxiclav, ceftriaxone, and chloramphenicol. However, only 50% and 33% were resistant to azithromycin. All E. coli and Proteus spp. Isolates were multidrug resistant. There was no resistance reported to cefepime or imipenem. Contamination of chicken litter with multidrug-resistant E. coli and Proteus spp. may be an underappreciated source of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) transmission to animals, people, and the environment. This demonstrates the importance of a One Health strategy to AMR surveillance and control in Jember. Monitoring AMR hazards and trends in the chicken litter would be possible with ongoing surveillance.

Abstract

Pericardial effusion is a condition characterized by fluid accumulation in the pericardial cavity. This fluid accumulation can cause disturbances in cardiac contractility, affecting hemodynamic stability. Fluid accumulation is caused by several factors, ranging from the amount of fluid, the speed of fluid accumulation, and the ability of the pericardium to accommodate fluid. One of the causes of pericardial effusion is pericarditis. Pericarditis can be caused by infection and non-infection, such as in patients with chronic renal failure with an incidence of 2-21%, which can lead to cardiac tamponade. In this study, a 46-year-old male patient who came to the emergency room of Dr. Soebandi Hospital, Jember with complaints of shortness of breath in the last 2 months. The patient also complained of heartburn. The patient had a history of chronic renal failure and routinely performed hemodialysis. On examination of vital signs, thoracic photographs, and echocardiography, a picture of cardiac tamponade was found. Cardiac tamponade can occur in patients with chronic renal failure. This is due to the condition of uremia which causes pericarditis. Inflammation of the pericardium causes blood that is intravascular to enter the pericardial cavity, causing fluid accumulation there. If not treated immediately, it can lead to cardiac tamponade which endangers the patient's life.

Abstract

Highlight: Primary brain tumors have high mortality and morbidity rates. Organophosphate pesticides are commonly used by farmers. Chronic exposure to organophosphate pesticides can increase the incidence of primary brain tumors farmers.   ABSTRACT Introduction: Primary brain tumors have high mortality and morbidity rates. Its causes and risk factors have not been explored further. Several studies indicate that exposure to pesticides can be one of the main triggering factors. Organophosphate insecticide is one of the most common pesticides used by farmers. Chronic exposure to organophosphates is known to trigger an imbalance of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the body by suppressing the acetylcholinesterase enzyme. Objective: This study aimed to determine the impact of chronic exposure to organophosphates in terms of the types of organophosphates used by farmers, frequency of usage, and duration of exposure, using a narrative review method. Methods: A literature search was conducted with multiple electronic databases, such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, and Springer. The keywords will be searched using the boolean operator method, while synonyms will be found in the Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) database. Articles were assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) Questionnaire. Results: There were 1071 articles found, but only 14 were selected for review. The studies showed that there was a relationship between the type, frequency, and duration of organophosphate usage and the incidence and risk factors for primary brain tumors. Conclusion: Chronic exposure to organophosphate pesticides, either directly or indirectly, can increase the incidence of primary brain tumors in farmers. The influencing factors include the type, frequency, and duration of pesticide exposure. The most influential factor is the duration of chronic pesticide exposure by farmers. Pesticide reduction exposure is beneficial in preventing the incidence of primary brain tumors in farmers.

Abstract

Atherosclerosis is a chronic disease due to fat accumulation in the blood vessel walls. Atherosclerosis is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease. Indonesian people’s habit of consuming coconut milk is suspected of causing dyslipidemia, a risk factor for atherosclerosis, by increasing low-density lipoprotein (LDL). However, other studies suggest that coconut milk can increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL), an antioxidant that prevents atherosclerosis. Because of the different findings, this study aims to determine the effects of coconut milk administration on the aortic wall thickness of rats (Rattus norvegicus strain Wistar) fed a high-fat diet (HFD). This true experimental study used samples of 28 male Wistar rats divided into seven groups. These groups consisted of the normal group (N), the negative control group (Kn), and five treatment groups that received coconut milk at various doses, including 2, 5, 3.75, 5, 7. 5, and 10 ml/kgBW/day. The results obtained were then analyzed using SPSS. The statistical tests used are the independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, LSD post hoc, Pearson correlation test, and regression test. Based on this study, the results showed that giving HFD for 45 days could cause the aortic wall to thicken. Meanwhile, giving an HFD accompanied by coconut milk for 45 days can prevent the thickening of the aortic wall, with the maximum effective dose that can be given being 9.75 ml/kg BW/day.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic condition presents its own difficulties in achieving this competency for students. Learning from home has several limitations so that the Government of Indonesia through the Indonesian Ministry of Education allows the school learning process offline or face-to-face. This requires readiness from schools in implementing health protocols in a disciplined manner to reduce the risk of transmission of covid 19. Supervision of the enforcement of health protocols will be very difficult if you only rely on health workers. The Hope Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT Harum) Jember will now start limited face-to-face learning in order to fulfill the competence of students. The Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Public Health, University of Jember have a moral responsibility to provide education and health promotion activities to the surrounding community, one of which is basic education institutions. One solution that can be done is to form cadres who are tasked with enforcing the implementation of health protocols in a disciplined manner. The hope of this program is that this health protocol discipline enforcer cadre can become an extension of health workers in promoting the importance of health protocol discipline as the main pillar of preventing COVID 19 in limited face-to-face learning.
