Abstract

Dinoflagellate is a group of monocelullar microalga prossesing of double flagel. This organism can be found in a subtropic and also in a tropic marine water. Some potentially toxic epibentic dinoflagellate assemblage with macroalgae and potentially to cause blooming such as Gambierdiscus sp, Ostereopsis sp and Prorocentrum sp. Blooming of this population can generate "Red Tide". This reaserch was aimed to understand about dinoflagellate abundance of Gambierdiscus sp, Ostereopsis sp and Prorocentrum sp at Nirwana Beach, West Sumatera. The method used was a survey method. Sampling was done by cutting the seagrass stands, and from the stand taken three leaves and then stored in plastic bags containing clean sea waters. The dinoflagellates were separated from seagrass leaves by shaking in a plastic bags. And then filtered with 135μm and 20 μm respectively. Dinoflagellate then observed on a Sedgewick Rafter Cell under a microscope. The results showed that the highest abundance of dinoflagellate on Thalassia sp found at station 1 (132 cell/g leaf). The lowest abundance occurred at station 3 (69 cell/g leaf), which close to mangrove area. The most abundance of all species was Prorocentrum sp, while the lowest abundance cell was Gambierdiscus sp.Key word: Dinoflagellate, Abundance, Seagrass, West Sumatera

Abstract

The study was conducted in April-May 2016. Samples were taken in the mangrove forest in the village of New Straits Bengkalis. The aim of this study was to determine the ecological parameter of red eye snail (C. obtusa), which include population density, size distribution of the individuals, as well as the relationship between the organic content of the sediment and density of snail. The method used in this research was survey method. Research station consists of two stations, which ware determined purposively. There were three zones each station, and each zone consist of three plots. Each plot divided in to 9 sub-plots measuring 1x1m2. Results showed that the average density of red eye snail in the station I was higher (39.22 ind / m2) than the density on stations II (21.66 ind / m2). However, statistical analysis (T test) was known that density between two stations were not significantly different. The dominant size group of C. obtusa in the area was the forth class (2,89-3,33 cm), while the less dominan was the first class (< 1,6 cm). Linier regression analysis showed that there was a medium value of relationship between sediment organic matter versus the density of C. obtusa r = 0.423.Keywords : Density, Cerithidea obtusa, Organic sediment, Jangkang Estuary.

Abstract

ABSTRACTHard clam (M. meretrix) is bivalve that lives in the bottom of a water substrate that is a filter feeder. This research was conducted in July 2018 in the intertidal zone of Sungai Cingam Village, Rupat District. This research aims to knowhabitat characteristics, abundance, distribution patterns and size distribution of M. meretrix. The method used in this study was the survey method and determination of sampling location by purposive sampling. Measurements of water quality parameters weredone in situ, namely temperature, salinity and pH. The results showed that the type of substratewas muddy sand and organic mattersare classified as low. Suspended solids have not exceeded sea water quality standards. Water quality parameters were still supported for the life of aquatic organisms. The abundance of M. meretrix population was low, which was1.38 ind/m2. The distribution pattern was random and uniform which is dominated by classes measuring 54.6-63.6 mm from 6 size classes. Keywords: Meretrix meretrix, Abundance, Distribution, Size.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe study was conducted in Penyengat Island in June 2014, Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands Province. The Penyengat Island coastal is known as fishing area and as cruise line and this island has seagrasses ecosystem. The research aim was to determine the structure of bivalves and its relationship with seagrass density by using the survey method. There were 3 station choser each station were 3 placed line transects, and each transects have 3 plot with the area of 1 x 1 m². The resulsts of the study showed there were 8 species of bivalves from 5 famalies and 6 genus. The species were concisting of Meritrix meritrix, Mercenaria mercenaria, Pina bicolor, A granosa, A inflate, Barbatia bistrigata, Crassostrea gasar and Placuna placenta. There were two species of seagrasses identified, i. e. Enhalus acoroides, and Halophila ovalis. Based on simple regression analysis it was concluded that the relationship between the density of seagrass density and bivalves population had a very weak correlation (r = 0,06).Keywords: Penyengat Island, Bivalves, Seagrass, Community structure
