Abstract

The research was conducted in December 2016 at the Selat Baru Beach of Bengkalis District, Riau Province. The aim of the research is to find out and to analyze, the characteristics of sediment and the distribution of crab Scopimera globosa, as the influence of sediment grain size on the abundance of crabs. This method used was survey method and the sampling location determined by purposive sampling. The location were divided into three stations and at each station there were three sub-stations spread in the intertidal zone and split three sub-zones to : upper, middle and lower. The type of sediment on this beach consisted of sand fraction and dominated by fine sand, with the distribution of the fraction from Well sorted, Moderately well sorted, Poorly sorted and Very poorly sorted. The distribution of crabs Scopimera globosa was a clumped pattern on each station with the highest abundance value in second station located and the middle sub-zone (the most productive zone for growth of the crab Scopimera globosa) and the sediment mean size to contributes 1.2% in control to distribution of the crab Scopimera globosa.Key words : Sediment Characteristics, Distribution Scopimera globosa, sand fraction, Sub-Zone Middle, Contribution of 1.2%.

Abstract

ABSTRACT            Chlorophyll-a was the green pigment found in phytoplankton. Chlorophyll-a can be used as an fertility indicator and primary productivity of the sea. Chlorophyll absorbs red and blue colors, and reflects green color. This research was conducted on 5-9 May 2018 with the research area of East Westwaters of Dumai in Riau Province, this research goal is to determine: the distribution of chlorophyll-a in the waters of West Dumai. The survey method was applied in this research where the West waters of Dumai is the research area, sampling location were set up purposively which divided into 5 stations. Each station has one sampling point with three repetitions. The results of this research found that the distribution of chlorophyll-a in West Dumai  was not evenly distributed. The highest chlorophyll-a concentration was in the 2018 around settlements because of the nutrient runoff from land. The lowest concentration is found in 2016 because of the dry season that exist throughout 2016.Key words: Chlorophyll-a, West Waters of Dumai, Phytoplankton.

Abstract

The research was carried out on the breakwater rocks in Water Conservation AreaPariaman West Sumatra Province in May 2013. The goal in conducting this study is tofind out how to survive gastropods in breakwater and sandy beach ecosystems areconstantly subjected to pressure waves. The method used was a survey method thatdirectly observe the behavior and movement of gastropods. There are 5 types of gastropods which have distinctive way of life to survive inthe face of pressure waves. Gastropods movement in the face of pressure waves in thesubmerged breakwater when high tide and exposed to the atmosphere when the low tidesas well as having an active movement, slow and settled. Life pattern gastropods in thesandy habitat gastropods will be attached to rock fragments and other fossil biota. Therewas slow movement that occurs when the wave came. Human impact on the gastropodswill always avoided by attaching themselves to the substrate tightly, closing their shellimmediately and move quickly. Gastropods movement in rock breakwater depends on thecause as something approaching movement (humans and other organisms), exposure tofree air (drought) and the most important is the availability of food. Keywords: Gastropods, survive, breakwaters, pressure waves, West Sumatera

Abstract

This study has been done on the reefs in the coastal waters of Beralas PasirIsland. It was carried out on May 2013 by deploying LIT method. The aim of thisstudy is to find out the condition of the reefs based on the percentage of HardLiving Coral Cover (HLCC) in the area. For that instance, three stations asrepresentatives were chosen purposively. As a result, the type of reefs in the areaunder study was fringing reef with different condition on each station. The station1 and 2 showed good condition with more than 50 % of HLCC coverage. Yet, itwas in moderate condition for the third station; it was about 29.10 %. There wasno dominant life’s form that found in term of both dominancy index and diversity. Keywords : Beralas Pasir Island, Coral Reef, Condition
