Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was conducted in September 2017to determine the oil content in sediments, the abundance of macrozoobentos in sediments and their possible relationship in the coastal waters of Selat Baru Bengkalis, Riau. Three sampling stations with three replications in each station were surveyed. Sediment samples were taken and placed in labelled plastics bags and transported to laboratory for later analysis at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science. The macrozoobentos samplewas given a few drops of 10% formalin solution and then taken to the laboratory for later identification. The oil content of sediment in Selat Baru coastal waters ranges from 917.87 to 5595.73 ppm, with the highest oil content being found at station 1 (around the harbour) and the lowest was at Station 2 (coastal tourism area). The types of macrozoobentos found in Selat Baru coastal waters consist of two classes namely, gastropods and crustaceans. Species of macrozoobenthos which have relatively high abundance value at each sampling point isCerithidea sp. Based on simple linear regression, the relationship between the oil content in sediment with the abundance of macrozoobentos was categorized as a moderate relationship (y = 16.03-0.001x; R2 = 0.588,r = 0.76) which indicated that the higher the oil content, the lower the macrozoobenthos abundance in sediment. Keywords: Pollution, Oil, Sediment, Makrozoobentos

Abstract

The research was carried out on the breakwater rocks in Water Conservation AreaPariaman West Sumatra Province in May 2013. The goal in conducting this study is tofind out how to survive gastropods in breakwater and sandy beach ecosystems areconstantly subjected to pressure waves. The method used was a survey method thatdirectly observe the behavior and movement of gastropods. There are 5 types of gastropods which have distinctive way of life to survive inthe face of pressure waves. Gastropods movement in the face of pressure waves in thesubmerged breakwater when high tide and exposed to the atmosphere when the low tidesas well as having an active movement, slow and settled. Life pattern gastropods in thesandy habitat gastropods will be attached to rock fragments and other fossil biota. Therewas slow movement that occurs when the wave came. Human impact on the gastropodswill always avoided by attaching themselves to the substrate tightly, closing their shellimmediately and move quickly. Gastropods movement in rock breakwater depends on thecause as something approaching movement (humans and other organisms), exposure tofree air (drought) and the most important is the availability of food. Keywords: Gastropods, survive, breakwaters, pressure waves, West Sumatera

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the condition of nesting beaches favored by green turtles (Chelonia mydas) and the effect of incubation temperature (heating source from incandescent) towards the incubation and hatching rate success. This research was conducted in October to December 2016 at the Turtle Breeding Facility at Jemur Island. This research used survey and experiment method. The research showed that the safe nesting ground with some vegetation on location I and the least predator at the location II, the wide beach area, and sloping beach with fine sand which making it easier for green turtles in digging the nest. These conditions were the reasons why green turtles choose Jemur Island as their nesting ground. Incubation temperatures effects the hatching rate success and hatching time of sea turtle’s eggs. The treatment that has the highest hatching rate is a 25 Watt light with average temperatures of 29.7oC which is 83.33%. Treatment using a 25 Watt light is the best treatment, with a highest numbers of hatching rate and has the fastest hatching time. Keywords: Hatching Egg turtle, Chelonia mydas, Jemur Island
