Abstract

Drilling means listening to a model, provided by the teacher, or a tape or another student, and repeating what is heard. This is a repetition drill, a technique that is still used by many teachers when introducing new language items to their students. The teacher says (models) the word or phrase and the students repeat it. Drilling provides learners with intensive practice in hearing and saying particular words or phrases. They can help learners get their tongues around difficult sounds or help them imitate intonation that may be rather different from that of their first language. It is a right choice to learn stress pattern of English words because students can memorize those patterns easily and quickly. Intonation patterns that are crucial to meaning may also be usefully practised through drilling.

Abstract

The research studies the main ideas by using qualitative descriptive method in Indonesian Folklore: The Onion And The Garlic, The Malin Kundang, And The Golden Cucumber. Indonesian Folklore is just the same as other stories, starting with an introduction, accompanied by a body of essay and ended by conclusion. The sequence of events that occur in the story is about the specific ideas of the folklore that begins by introducing the folklore. The Introduction of Indonesian folklore provides some general ideas related to the topic. The last paragraph of the folklore is the conclusion delivering some valuable moral lessons to take based on the ideas or meanings of the folklore. The main ideas of a story are the central themes or concepts that the writer wants the reader to understand or take away from the folklores. These ideas are often expressed through the plot, characters, and themes of the story. To identify the main ideas of a story, readers can ask questions such as "What is the story about?" and "What is the overall message or theme of the story?" Some stories may focus on more than one idea, while others may focus on a single idea. Understanding the main ideas of the Indonesian Folklores will make the readers to better understand and appreciate them.

Abstract

The objective of the problem was to analyze the types of slang words and the their meanings containes in the film The Basketball Diaries. This type of research was descriptive qualitative, it systematically described the data of slang words found in the film. The research discussed 2 types of slang words, namely primary and secondary with their meanings. The film consisted 9 scenes. The findings that researchers obtained in the film ever were 63 slang words which were primary slang and 39 slangs words which were secondary slang and the meanings contained in them such as callstoaction, insulting words, expressing opinions, mentioning drugs and describing a person’s character.

Abstract

Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) merupakan mata kuliah wajib bagi mahasiswa program sarjana Universitas Muslim Nusantara. Melalui program KKN ini, mahasiswa diharapkan mampu menerapkan dan mengaplikasikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan yang telah mereka pelajari di kampus dalam situasi nyata di lapangan. Berdasarkan hasil observasi di SD Negeri Tanjung Raja diketahui terdapat siswa yang memiliki pengetahuan dan pemahaman yang redah terhadap materi-materi dasar pada mata pelajaran matematika, dan Sebagian dari mereka juga ada yang belum pandai membaca bahkan ada juga yang belum pandai mengenal huruf sama sekali. kegiatan bimbingan belajar bagi siswa merupakan salah satu program unggulanyang dilaksanakan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan yang di hadapi oleh siswa di desa tersebut. kegiatan ini juga bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman pesrta didik pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia, matematika, dan Bahasa inggris. Bimbingan belajar yang berupa pemberian dan penguatan tentang materi-materi dasar yang akan dilakukan oleh mahasiswa kepada pesrta didik. kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 22 juli-31 agustus 2024 setiap hari Senin, Rabu, dan Jum'at pukul 16.00 - 17.30 WIB dengan menggunakan ruang balai desa. Hasil evaluasi menunjukan bahwa program bimbingan belajar dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman pesrta didik terhadap materi-materi dasar pada mata pelajaran yang di sampaikan. hal ini dapat di lihat dari kemampuan peserta didik dalam menyelesaikan soal dan mengkomunikasikan jawaban sewaktu bimbingan kelas dimulai.

Abstract

Fokus Pengabdian yang diuraikan adalah English for Business to Improve Transaction Communication for Islamic Students at Jisda in Yala Province Thailand. Bahasa Inggris menjadi bahasa komunikasi utama dalam dunia bisnis internasional. Bahasa Inggris bisnis sangat dibutuhkan dalam keperluan karir, pekerjaan dan bisnis. Dalam berbahasa Inggris perlu sekali dipahami terkait rumus dalam berkomunikasi, selain itu untuk mengadopsi TPACK pengabdian ini juga menampilkan media transaksi yang digunakan. Adapun hasil dari kegiatan pelatihan ini adalah menambah kosakata mahasiswa khusus nya dalam english for business, dan mahasiswa mampu bertransaksi dengan berkomunikasi dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Dari sebelum pelatihan ini dilakukan tingkat kemampuan bahasa Inggris dalam bertransaksi menikat menjadi 85% yang sebelumnyahanya sekitar 10% mahasiswa mampu berkomunikasi bahasa Inggris yang dikarenakan rata-rata masyarakat Thailand terkhusus di JISDA menggunakan bahasa Thaiand Selatan.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the application of the ASSURE model and Self-Directed Learning in improving English speaking skills for students at Universitas Harapan Medan. The ASSURE model, which involves analyzing student needs, setting objectives, selecting media and materials, and evaluation, is integrated with the Self-Directed Learning approach, which encourages students to actively manage their own learning process. This research uses an experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design to measure changes in students' English- speaking abilities after the implementation of both models. The research results show that the implementation of the ASSURE model and Self-Directed Learning significantly improves students' English-speaking skills. Students become more confident and able to express their ideas more fluently and accurately. Thus, both approaches have proven effective in improving English speaking skills among students at Universitas Harapan Medan.

Abstract

The aim for this research first to identify the types of moral values in the movie Dead Poets Society by Peter Weir. Second, to find out how these values shape the characters' journeys and contribute to the film’s overall message of individuality, integrity, and the importance of pursuing one's passions despite societal pressures. This research used qualitative research method with descriptive types. The result of this research show that there are 9 types of moral values in Dead Poets Society such as the moral value of bravery, honesty, steadfastness, sympathy for others, cooperativeness, thankfulness, kind-heartedness, trustworthiness, and love and affection.

Abstract

This research explores the central role of communication English in the internship experience of English Literature students in the tourism sector. Using a qualitative approach, this study aims to understand how students apply their English language skills in a real work context, and how those skills contribute to their success in internships. Through a case study, this research analyzes the internship experience of a student at an international travel company. Research results show that English language skills are not only important to communicate effectively, but also to build a positive image of the company and strengthen professional networks. This research highlights The importance of preparing students with comprehensive communication skills, including the ability to adapt to various communication contexts and understand different cultural nuances.

Abstract

Penggunaan Canva sebagai media pembelajaran dapat mempermudah dan menghemat waktu guru dalam mendesain media pembelajaran seperti infografis atau power point dan menjelaskan materi pelajaran. Canva dapat memudahkan siswa dalam memahami pelajaran dikarenakan tampilan teks, animasi, grafik dan lain-lain sesuai dengan tampilan yang diinginkan dan membuat siswa fokus memperhatikan pelajaran karena tampilannya menarik. Dengan canva guru bisa membuat infografis yang berisi materi pembelajaran dengan lebih menarik dan inovatif, sehingga para siswa lebih antusias dan semangat mengikuti proses pembelajaran di kelas. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan agar para guru di MIS Syababul Qorib lebih memahami penggunaan media pembelajaran yang relevan dengan teknologi, yakni media canva sebagai dasar dalam membuat desain infografis atau power point yang menarik. Menyelenggarakan kegiatan pengabdian merupakan salah satu tri dharma perguruan tinggi yang harus dilaksanakan sebagai seorang dosen.

Abstract

This blended culture-based English language learning model needs to be implemented. The activity of English language learning teaches mostly western cultures compared to local culture. This problem is exacerbated by technological advances in the form of electronic media and print media, television as learning resources that can be accessed freely by students. The objective of the research was to know  influence from blended culture to English speaking skills, especially in the tourism sector. The data was found out using instruments such as tests, questionnaires and interviews as an effort to find out how to implement the blended culture-based English language learning model. The study used a pre-experimental design. The design was a pre-experimental design caused it was not yet a pure experiment and also caused there were still external variables that affected the dependent variable. The research was One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. In this design there was a pretest before treatment was given. In this study, the results of the treatment could be seen more accurately, because it could be compared with the situation before and after the treatment.
