Abstract

ABSTRACT             This research was conducted in February-March 2019. Purpose of this study was to determine sediment fraction, concentrations of heavy metals (Cu and Zn) in sediments, and the relationship of grain size of sediments with concentrations of heavy metals (Cu and Zn) in sediments in coastal marine waters of Pariaman City. The method used is the survey method, by determining the location of the sampling point by purposive sampling where the sampling location consisted of 3 research stations and each station consisted of 5 sampling points. The results showed that sediment types in the form of sandy mud and mud with an mean size (Mz) 5,317-7,267 Ø with the classification of coarse silt to fine silt, sorting 0,76-2,39 Ø showed the sorting of moderately to very poorly sorted sediments, skewness (-0,351) - (-0,919) with the classification of sediment grains tend to be very coarse skewed, kurtosis 0,49-10,24 indicates that energy works change and are not the same everywhere. The average concentration of heavy metals in sediments (Cu) ranges from 10,64-12,28 mg / kg and (Zn) 49,39-50,06 mg / kg has not crossed the threshold. The average value of Contamination Factor (CF) Cu (0,190-0,219) and Zn (0,537-0,544), Polution Load Index (PLI) ranged from 0,319-0,345, and the Potential Ecological Risk Index (PERI) ranged from 1,487-1,641 indicating that heavy metals Cu and Zn in sediments with low levels of contamination, not contaminated, and do not cause ecological risks. The results of a simple linear regression show the relationship of mean size (Mz) of sediment with the concentration of Cu heavy metals (y = 3,3077 + 1,3738x with r = 0,5143) and Zn (y = 28.014 + 3.5534x with r = 0,5427) interpret the strength of the relationship moderate with the form of a positive linear relationship.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to reveal the depositional environmentand the movement of coastline. This study was conducted in January 2013 innorthern part of Rangsang Island, Meranti District. Sediment samples were takenfrom 11 station sand analyzed by using mechanical granular method. The methodof remote sensing linear regression was used to determine the movement ofcoastline. The result of study show that the surface bottom sediment ischaracterized by sand and mud fractions, and is dominated by bottom characterof sand. The study area was a transitional area where waves and currents werepredicted to change frequently through not too significant. The currents strengthtend to move with the fluctuations. The average change of the coastline during thepast 13 years (2000 to 2013) was 7,455 m/yr with the greatest changes occurredat station 7, i.e. Kedabu Rapat Village, with 8.54 m/yr. The speed movement ofcoastline was marked by the destruction of land cover in the north along the coastof the Rangsang Island as indicated by destruction of mangrove forests andvegetation coast, the sinking of jetty, roads and houses as well as the erosion.Kata kunci: movement of coastline, sediment coastal, Rangsang Island, abrat

Abstract

This study was conducted from March to April 2016 in the Laboratory of PhysicalOceanography Marine Science Department Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science University ofRiau. This study aimed to explain a relationship between current velocity and wave propagationspeed, and sediment particle size to the results of sediment transport volume. The method used wasan experimental design with 4 treatments. Current velocity and wave propagation speed wereconsists of 2 level factors (V1 and V2) and sediment particle size were consists of 2 level factors(D1 and D2). Observations used the flume tank and wave generator for 10 minutes. The resultsshow that there was an effect of current velocity, wave propagation, and sediment particle size tosediment transport volume. If the current velocity increase so sediment transport volume alsoincreased. While if sediment particle size increase the sediment transport volume decreased.Observations in the laboratory and calculation of sediment transport that used an Engelund-Hansenformula showed differences. Differences caused by oceanographic factors such as water andsediment density, gravity, water depth, salinity and consistency. Keywords: The Volume of Sediment Transport, Current, Wave, Particle, Velocity.
