Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the rate of shoreline change and the level of abrasion in Bukit Batu District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province based on several physical variables in the coastal area. End Point Rate (EPR) is a method that can be used to calculate the rate of shoreline change by displaying transects according to their category (high abrasion, medium abrasion, low abrasion, stable, and accretion). From 1991-2021 there was an abrasion of ±139.71 meters equivalent to ±4.65 m/year which mostly occurred in Sukajadi Village and Pangkalan Jambi Village, while accretion of ±27.51 meters equivalent to ±1.58 m/year mostly occurred in Pakning Asal Village and Sejangat Village. Moderate abrasion is the predominant type. Sukajadi and Pangkalan Jambi are villages that have experienced high levels of abrasion. The area affected by abrasion has moderate and fast currents as well as coastal protection in the form of mangroves, most of which have been damaged and require repairs. Therefore, the main factors causing the abrasion are thought to be the lack of coastal protection and high-speed currents and waves flowing from the Malacca Strait.

Abstract

Abstract

Batang Lubuh River is a river which is located in Rokan Hulu Regency. With approximately 151.9 Km (94.4 miles) in length, the river divides the capital of Rokan Hulu Regency Pasir Pengaraian into two parts. Because of the strategic location of the river, which is situated in the downtown, the government utilizes it as a waterfront city that attracts tourists with the local cuisines. The water from the Batang Lubuh River is the main raw material for clean water treatment which is managed by the government of Rokan Hulu Regency and distributed to Rambah sub-district. The purposes of this research were: to find out the water quality of the Batang Lubuh River; to determine the pollutant load of the Batang Lubuh River, which comes from its watercourses, namely, Menaming, Pawan, and Kaiti; to find out the load capacity of the Batang Lubuh River. The results of this research showed that the pollution index of the Batang Lubuh River is 2.38 which means that the river is lightly polluted. The pollution load that flow into the Batang Lubuh River for TSS, BOD5, total coliform, and oil and grease are 0,1350 mg/second; 0,0461 mg/second; 11,601 MPN/second and 0,0291 mg/second respectively, whereas the load capacity for TSS, BOD5, total coliform, and oil and grease in the Batang Lubuh River are 0,0412 mg/second; 0,0353 mg/second; 633,0638 MPN/second and 0,0743 mg/second respectively. Based on the findings, it can be stated that the Batang Lubuh River is not capable of purifying itself from the pollutant load such as TSS, BOD5, and oil and grease because the amount of pollutant load found in the river is bigger than the load capacity. However, the amount of total coliform found in the Batang Lubuh River is bigger than the pollutant load which means that the river still has the capability to recover itself from the pollutant load that flow into it. Based on the results of the model analysis using analytical hierarchy process (AHP), the alternatives found are as follows: 0.313 for supervision and monitoring, 0.288 for counseling/socialization, 0.203 for stakeholder coordination and 0.195 for law enforcement with the inconsistency value of 0.03.

Abstract

The seagrass ecosystem is one of the marine ecosystems that has an important role, namely as a source of life for organisms in the sea. Diatoms are microalgae widely distributed throughout the aquatic environment and are even found in plants, including seagrass leaves. Diatoms greatly influence life in the waters because they play an essential role as a food source for various marine organisms and play a role in the transfer of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphate. This research was conducted in February 2023 on Poncan Gadang Island, Sibolga City, North Sumatra. The study aims to determine the density, relative abundance, abundance, and diversity of epiphytic diatom species on seagrass (Enhalus acoroides) leaves in Poncan Gadang Island. The method used is the survey method, using three stations to take samples. The determination of 3 stations is based on the density of the seagrass beds ecosystem. Sampling of diatoms was carried out by brushing the surface of seagrass leaves about 5x2 cm on the front and back of the leaves. The samples obtained were then analyzed in the laboratory. There were 12 types of diatoms found, consisting of Cocconeis sp., Rhizosolenia sp., Biddulphia sp., Amphipluera sp., Thalassiotrix sp., Nitzchia sp., Synedra sp., Melosira sp., Pleurogosigma sp., Skeletonema sp., Licmiphora sp., and Thalassionema sp. the average value of epiphytic diatom abundance in seagrass leaves ranged from 2160.85 – 4649.94 ind/cm². The epiphytic diatom diversity (H') values ranged from 2.53 to 2.72
