Abstract

Character is the traits or qualities that shape a person's personality, including behaviour, values, and morality, which are reflected in the actions and decisions made in everyday life. The purpose of this study is to determine the implementation of character values in physical education, sports, and health subjects. Qualitative research methods were used to obtain and explore information about the implementation of character education in physical education, sports, and health subjects using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The data was analysed using ATLAS. The process involved several stages: project analysis, data processing, familiarisation with the data, coding, solidification and integration of the coding system, categorisation of codes, categorisation of categories, co-occurrence menu, and thematic visualisation. The research results indicate that PJOK teachers and school principals consistently instil good habits in students during the learning process, both before and after lessons begin. This study has implications for the development of PJOK learning that focuses not only on physical and cognitive aspects, but also on character building in students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of a sociocultural-based manipulative movement game model on the manipulative movement skills in children aged 5–6 years. A quasi-experimental design was employed, using a pretest-posttest control group approach. A total of 24 students were purposively selected with prior written consent from their parents or guardians. The experimental group (n = 12) consisted of students from TK Negeri 4 Yogyakarta, while the control group (n = 12) came from TK Negeri 11 Yogyakarta. The intervention involved a manipulative movement game model developed based on Vygotsky’s sociocultural perspective, integrating four elements of physical literacy from the Australian Physical Literacy Framework: manipulative movement skills, confidence, collaboration, and rule comprehension. Manipulative movement skills were assessed using the ball skills subdomain of the Test of Gross Motor Development–3 (TGMD-3). Data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test and the Wilcoxon rank-sum test. The results revealed significant differences between the pretest and posttest groups (W = 56.949, p = 0.04384) and between the control and experimental groups in the posttest (W = 44.807, p = 0.0004301). These findings indicate that the developed model effectively enhances children's manipulative movement skills. The study underscores the importance of integrating the principles of mediated learning, scaffolding, and the zone of proximal development into early childhood physical-motor learning. The implementation of this model is recommended as an alternative approach to physical-motor learning in Indonesian kindergartens.

Abstract

Literacy and numeracy have been regarded as a fundamental skill for students’ further learning. Many challenges are still faced by elementary teachers related to the limited sources in improving students’ literacy and numeracy. The current study aimed at developing an innovative game-based learning model in Physical Education (PE) classrooms to improve students’ literacy and numeracy skills. Research and Development (R&) approach was employed by adapting ADDIE model. There were five stages of development; analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. There were 30 of 1st grade students and two PE teachers at Bukit Sunrise School Jimbaran, Bali, selected as research subjects by using total sampling technique. The data were obtained through observation, interview, and test. The observation sheet, interview guide, and test were the research instruments in which the obtained data were analysed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results indicated that the innovative-game learning model had a very high quality and effectively improved students’ literacy and numeracy. These results imply that game-based learning model within PE is an effective alternative to increase students’ fundamental skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between BMI, physical activity, and sleep quality with physical fitness and the correlation between these factors. The research method used is correlational research. The subjects of this study were adolescent students aged 16-19 years. It selected subjects using purposive sampling techniques with criteria of adolescents aged 16-19, healthy conditions, and willingness to participate in research activities. The total subjects involved were 251 teenagers. The research instruments used were BMI measurement, physical activity using the PAQ-A questionnaire, sleep quality measured using PSQI, and physical fitness measured using the Indonesian Physical Fitness Test for the age range of 16-19 years. The data analysis techniques used are descriptive analysis and multiple regression tests. The results showed that BMI and physical fitness were significantly associated with an effective contribution of 4.29%, physical activity, and physical fitness had a significant relationship with an effective contribution of 46.34%, and sleep quality and physical fitness were significantly associated with an effective contribution of 2.27%. The BMI, physical activity, and sleep quality all had a significant relationship with physical fitness in adolescent students, with an effective contribution of 53.40%, meaning that it was concluded that there was a relationship between BMI, physical activity, sleep quality, and physical fitness. The results of this study answered that BMI, physical activity, and sleep quality contribute to the fitness of adolescent students.
