Abstract

This study explores the use of Ruangguru Clash of Champions gamification in shaping fourth-grade students’ mathematics learning motivation at Kauman Pati Islamic Elementary School. The study responds to the need for more engaging mathematics learning by examining how a popular edutainment-based platform is pedagogically integrated into classroom practice. A descriptive qualitative design was employed, involving the school principal, one fourth-grade teacher, fourth-grade students, and selected student interviewees as research informants. Data were collected through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using the interactive model of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings show that Clash of Champions shaped students’ motivation through school support, teacher mediation, competitive features, immediate feedback, and classroom regulation. Features such as Math Mayhem, points, rankings, leaderboards, and time-limited challenges encouraged students’ enthusiasm, participation, focus, quick thinking, and achievement orientation. However, the findings also revealed emotional and technical tensions, including anxiety, fear of making mistakes, time pressure, limited Smart TV availability, internet dependence, and classroom time management issues. This study contributes to gamified mathematics learning literature by conceptualizing Clash of Champions as a teacher-mediated pedagogical ecosystem rather than a stand-alone digital intervention. The study implies that gamification can support elementary mathematics learning when it is accompanied by teacher guidance, classroom agreements, feedback-based reflection, emotional support, and adequate digital infrastructure.

Abstract

The low level of understanding among 4th-grade students at MI Miftahul Huda Sukobubuk regarding the topics of cultural diversity and local wisdom in IPAS lessons served as the background for this study, given that conventional teaching methods were deemed insufficient in stimulating students’ interest and active engagement. This study aims to describe strategies for utilizing the Wayground game as a teaching medium and to analyze its effectiveness in improving students’ understanding of these topics. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach involving direct field research. Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews with the madrasah principal, 4th-grade teachers of classes A and B, and students, as well as documentation of learning activities. The data were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the use of Wayground was implemented in three stages: preparation of materials on the platform; implementation utilizing classroom TVs, computer labs, and the school’s Wi-Fi, and evaluation through an automatic assessment feature that displays students’ scores in real time. This medium proved effective in increasing students’ enthusiasm, motivation, and understanding of the subject matter on cultural diversity and local wisdom. However, the effective use of Wayground is still hampered by technical challenges, namely its reliance on a stable internet connection, which, if not maintained, can disrupt the learning process.

Abstract

The use of digital media in advertisement material within the Indonesian language subject is important, as it helps students understand concepts and develop creativity. This study aims to describe teachers’ strategies in utilizing Canva for Education in teaching advertisement material, as well as to identify supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. This study employs a qualitative method, with data analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and documentation. The results show that students demonstrate high enthusiasm and engagement in digital-based learning, as materials are presented with attractive designs and students are directly involved in creating advertisement designs. Teachers also find it easier to deliver the material, as it is well-prepared and supported by digital tools. Written evaluations indicate that students understand advertisement concepts and are able to create their own designs through practical activities. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on teachers’ instructional strategies in utilizing Canva for Education and identifying implementation stages along with supporting and inhibiting factors. The policy implication highlights the need for support from stakeholders to optimize digital learning implementation.

Abstract

Mathematics is often considered a difficult and boring subject for elementary school students. This situation encourages teachers to seek more engaging and effective learning media. One technology-based media that can be utilized is the Coolmath4Kids website, which provides interactive materials and games to help students understand basic math concepts in a fun way. This study aims to describe the strategy for utilizing the Coolmath4Kids website in teaching basic arithmetic operations to third-grade students at MI Hidayatul Islam Gembong, as well as to analyze the positive and negative impacts of its use. The uniqueness of this study lies in its focus on the context of an elementary madrasah with limited technological facilities. However, this limitation actually encourages teachers to be more creative in utilizing existing technology optimally. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, employing field research. Data were obtained from third-grade teachers, students, and the principal as primary sources, and supporting documents as secondary sources. Data collection techniques included direct observation and in-depth interviews. The research results show that the Coolmath4Kids utilization strategy was implemented in three stages. First, the planning stage involved developing objectives based on CPL and ATP, selecting features, and setting up the projector. Second, the implementation stage included explaining the material, observing with students, and taking turns answering questions. Third, the evaluation stage involved practice questions and evaluations by teachers and the principal. The use of Coolmath4Kids has had positive impacts, including increased student enthusiasm, easier conceptual understanding, and a more enjoyable learning environment. However, there have been negative impacts, including language barriers, students' focus sometimes shifting to games, and limited internet connection.
