Abstract

Safety performance among healthcare workers is an important issue, and currently, the factors related to it remain unclear. The aim of this study was to identify the factors related to safety performance among the healthcare worker population. This meta-analysis study was conducted in accordance with the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) standards. Data on the factors affecting safety performance in the healthcare population were collected from each article to determine pooled point estimates. Data heterogeneity was evaluated using the Q statistic. Numerical data were analyzed using the inverse variance test, and the Mantel-Haenszel test was used for categorical data analysis. Pooled point estimates were presented as mean difference (MD) or odds ratio (OR) along with a 95% confidence interval (95%CI). Fifty articles were included in this study. Our results showed that nurses had lower safety performance compared to other professions (OR: 0.66; 95%CI: 0.56–0.79; p-Egger: 0.3739; p-Heterogeneity <0.0001; p<0.0001). On the other hand, it was also identified that housekeepers were associated with better safety performance compared to other professions (OR: 1.90; 95%CI: 1.08–3.35; p-Egger: 0.1577; p-Heterogeneity: 0.0950; p=0.0220). Furthermore, our findings revealed that healthcare workers who had undergone work safety training had better safety performance compared to those who had not (OR: 1.40; 95%CI: 1.01–1.95; p-Egger: 0.6124; p-Heterogeneity <0.0001; p=0.0430). In conclusion, this study has identified the factors contributing to safety performance in the healthcare population. These findings can inform policymakers in developing regulatory improvements regarding safety performance in healthcare workers.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate and re-map the Portable Fire Extinguishers (PFE) in the office buildings of PLN UID East Java. The method employed is a descriptive observational approach, gathering primary data through direct observation and structured interviews, supplemented by secondary data from document reviews. The findings reveal a gap between fire safety standards and actual conditions, such as improper PFE placement, unclear expiration dates, and an uneven distribution of PFE across buildings. Risk analysis identifies hazards from these issues, including delayed fire response and potential failure of PFE during emergencies. Calculating PFE needs based on Permenakertrans Regulation No. 04/MEN/1980 and NFPA-10 edition 2022 generates recommendations for redistributing PFE. Based on these calculations, three buildings (C, F, I) are found to have an excess of 13 PFE, while four buildings (A, B, D, E) are short by 9 PFE. The recommendation suggests transferring 11 PFE from Building F: 4 PFE to Building A, 3 PFE to Building B, and 2 PFE each to Buildings D and E. This redistribution ensures the correct number of PFE in each building, enhancing fire safety management in PLN UID Jawa Timur office buildings. This action aims to align the PFE distribution with safety requirements.

Abstract

This study evaluates the fire protection system in Building B of PLN UID East Java. Fire incidents in work environments are often caused by electrical short circuits and improper waste burning, leading to both material and non-material losses, such as loss of life and operational disruptions. PLN UID East Java, being a vital national object, requires an effective fire protection system to safeguard against such risks. The evaluation covers three primary components: fire extinguishers (APAR), hydrants, and fire alarm systems. The evaluation methodology includes direct observation and comparison with established safety standards like NFPA 10, NFPA 14, and NFPA 72. The results showed that the APAR system met 85% of the standards, the hydrant system 83.12%, and the fire alarm system 79.29%. Despite being relatively well-equipped, there were several areas for improvement, such as updating expired fire extinguishers, providing clear hydrant usage instructions, and conducting fire alarm simulations more frequently. Enhancing these aspects is essential to ensure maximum safety for the building’s occupants and the continuity of operations.

Abstract

Abstract

The MBKM Kesmas by Design program bridges theoretical knowledge and practical OSH implementation at PT GMF AeroAsia Tbk., an aviation maintenance facility with high-risk operations. Objectives: This study aims to (1) identify hazards in scrap area grinding/manual handling, (2) assess risks via HIRADC analysis, and (3) propose targeted controls. Field observations, worker interviews, and risk evaluations were conducted, aligned with the hierarchy of control (elimination to PPE). The study identified 15 grinding hazards (e.g., sparks, vibration) and 6 manual handling risks (e.g., overload injuries), with high-risk activities (e.g., severed hands, back injuries) requiring engineering/administrative interventions. Post-control, residual risks were reduced to low/moderate levels. The program demonstrates how academic-industry collaboration can enhance OSH practices, urging adoption of digital hazard monitoring and standardized documentation. Findings are scalable to high-risk industries globally.

Abstract

Up to the end of 2012, Social Security showed the occurence of 103.074 work accident cases. 91.21% of the accident casualties were recovered, 3.8% were disabled, 2.61% partially disabled, and the rest died (2.419 cases) and were totally-permanently disabled (37 cases), with the average of 282 work accident cases per day. Due to the increasingly tight corporate climate, the company tries to make production cost efficiency (cost of production). One solution that may be taken is by applying outsourcing system. With this system, the company may save expenses in funding human resources (HR) who work in the company concerned. If the aspects of the application of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) are not properly managed, the possibility of work accidents and environmental pollution that have a negative effect on the corporate image and the continuity of company product supply will increase. This may affect the company's loss, both material and corporate image. The role and responsibility of the safety officer is very influential on the achievement of zero accident, so many safety programs are developed, such as safety briefing and safety patrol, with the aim to improve the aspect of OSH. However, some employees have not complied with the provisions of OSH implementation in the company they work at.
