Abstract

Given the escalating global production of plastics and the absence of regulatory frameworks addressing internal human exposure, microplastic contamination has emerged as an urgent environmental and public health policy concern.Using micro Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy, MPs were detected in 76.0% of samples collected from 50 healthy adults, with an average concentration of 3.15 ± 1.25 particles/mL and a mean particle size of 5.8 ± 2.1 μm. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polypropylene (PP) were the dominant polymer types, while fragments and fibers represented the most common morphologies. Correlation analyses revealed significant positive associations between total MP concentration and inflammatory biomarkers C-reactive protein (r = +0.415, p = 0.003) and interleukin-6 (r = +0.288, p = 0.043) as well as oxidative stress marker malondialdehyde (r = +0.350, p = 0.013), suggesting that MPs may contribute to subclinical systemic inflammation and oxidative imbalance. These findings provide empirical evidence supporting the systemic circulation of MPs and their potential role as low-grade biological stressors that could influence vascular homeostasis. Further longitudinal and mechanistic studies are warranted to elucidate causal pathways, characterize nanoplastic fractions, and establish standardized analytical protocols. This research underscores the growing necessity to treat microplastic exposure as a critical environmental and public health issue.

Abstract

Microplastic contamination in wastewater poses a serious threat to aquatic ecosystems and human health due to its persistence and limited removal by conventional treatment processes. This study evaluates a hybrid photocatalytic membrane reactor (PMR) integrating TiO₂-based photocatalysis with membrane filtration for the removal and degradation of polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polyester (PET) microplastics. Photocatalytic membranes were fabricated via phase inversion using polyethersulfone (PES) and characterized by SEM, XRD, contact angle, porosity, and water flux measurements.TiO₂ incorporation significantly increased membrane hydrophilicity and permeability while maintaining the asymmetric structure and anatase crystallinity. The hybrid PMR achieved microplastic removal efficiencies above 99% for all polymers, outperforming membrane-only filtration and standalone photocatalysis. FTIR and SEM analyses confirmed oxidative polymer chain scission, while mineralization efficiencies reached 8.7%, 11.3%, and 18.9% for PE, PP, and PET, respectively. The degradation followed apparent first-order kinetics, with PET showing the highest rate constant. Hydroxyl radicals were identified as the dominant reactive species. The PMR also exhibited mitigated membrane fouling, stable performance over five cycles, and negligible TiO₂ leaching. The specific energy consumption ranged from 0.38 to 0.46 kWh m⁻³ with an estimated operational cost of USD 0.42–0.53 per m³. These findings demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of the hybrid PMR for advanced microplastic treatment.

Abstract

The integration of Islamic values into the learning process is an essential effort in shaping student character within Islamic higher education institutions, including the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training at UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan. This study was conducted to obtain an overview of how Islamic values are internalized throughout academic activities so that they do not remain merely theoretical concepts. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method through observation, interviews, and documentation involving lecturers and students. The findings indicate that Islamic values are integrated through lecturers’ exemplary behavior, the habituation of religious academic culture, the embedding of moral principles in course materials, and the creation of a learning environment that supports Islamic character development. These results show that the integration of Islamic values contributes to increased learning motivation, discipline, and students’ sense of responsibility. Based on these findings, the study concludes that the integration process has been implemented effectively, although strengthening is still needed in terms of consistency and continuous evaluation.

Abstract

The problem at RSI Ibnu Sina Padang in 2023 is that the search for medical records is always done manually with the time needed for 1 medical record ± 10 minutes, this is because the medical records are not specified or scattered. The purpose of this study is to find out the design of an outpatient medical record search application at RSI Ibnu Sina Padang in 2023. By adopting the type of research, namely Research & Development (R&D) with the prototype development method. The research was conducted from January to July 2023. The number of informants was 5 people, namely 5 runner officers. Conduct data analysis of potentials and problems, collect data, design products, validate designs, improve designs, and test products. The results showed that the process flow for filling in components, especially in the form of searching was done manually which included outpatient registration proof sheets. Application design can be fully implemented. The test results show that the existing components are in accordance with the hospital format and the application of the search process is faster and more efficient than manual search. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the design of the outpatient medical record storage information system was in accordance with the hospital format. It is hoped that this research application design can be used in hospitals and this research can be continued by other researchers.

Abstract

The digitalization of healthcare is crucial for improving service efficiency, a necessity highlighted by administrative burdens in Indonesia's JKN-KIS program causing long patient waiting times. This study addresses the need for quantitative evidence by comparing the operational efficiency of Mobile JKN application (Digital Pathway) versus conventional on-site registration (Physical Pathway). Using an ex-post facto quantitative comparative design on aggregated secondary RWT data from official health reports (2020–2025; N=170,995), the analysis employed the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U Test. Results showed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001), with the Mobile JKN RWT averaging 5.38 minutes compared to 18.91 minutes for the on-site method. This represents a substantial efficiency gain, quantified by a very large effect size (Cohen's d = 3.15). The findings validate Mobile JKN as an effective parallel service channel for mitigating system bottlenecks. Implications include justifying health policy mandates for digital adoption and supporting the revision of Minimum Service Standards. Future research should focus on end-to-end service time analysis and sustained digital adoption drivers.

Abstract

The quality stability of healthcare services in Indonesia is critically influenced by the Hospital Accreditation Commission (KARS) certification, which functions as a formal regulatory system ensuring compliance with national standards. Despite this, a gap persists between formal accreditation status (Paripurna vs. Non-Paripurna) and actual patient satisfaction, particularly as reflected in public sentiment on digital platforms like Google Maps. This study aims to analyze the correlation between KARS accreditation levels and patient satisfaction ratings derived from sentiment analysis of over 50,000 Indonesian-language Google Maps reviews spanning 2020–2025. Employing a quantitative correlational design, the research integrates ordinal accreditation data and sentiment classification results generated through advanced machine learning methods (LSTM/Naïve Bayes). The analysis utilized Spearman’s rank correlation to assess the association between hospital accreditation status and aggregated sentiment scores. Findings reveal a statistically significant but weak positive correlation (ρ = 0.215, p < 0.001), indicating that higher formal accreditation does not strongly predict better patient-perceived quality. Negative sentiments notably cluster around non-technical service issues such as staff empathy and administrative delays, highlighting deficiencies unaddressed by the accreditation framework. These results suggest the need for hospital management and policymakers to incorporate digital patient feedback as a critical complement to traditional quality assurance measures. The study advocates for integrating Patient Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) from online sources into KARS standards and encourages future research using diagnostic tools like Root Cause Analysis to target underlying causes of patient dissatisfaction. This comprehensive approach aims to close the gap between institutional compliance and patient experience, promoting sustainable improvements in healthcare service quality in Indonesia.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases and the high cost of healthcare services emphasize the importance of strengthening family-based promotive and preventive health efforts. The utilization of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) represents a practical community empowerment strategy to support self-reliant healthcare. This community service activity aimed to provide education and hands-on training on TOGA cultivation to the community in Jua-Jua Village. A participatory and experiential learning approach was applied, involving PKK members and community service students. Activities included land preparation, educational counseling, and practical planting of medicinal plants such as ginger, turmeric, white turmeric, lemongrass, basil, pandan, red betel, and cat’s whiskers. Evaluation was conducted through participatory observation and group discussions. The results indicated active participant involvement and the establishment of a TOGA garden as a medium for health education and community empowerment. The activity increased community awareness of medicinal plant utilization and encouraged the optimization of home yards as sources of natural remedies. Program sustainability depends on the community’s commitment to continuous maintenance of the TOGA garden.
