Abstract

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a welding process that is promoted with little cost and good connection quality. That is because it does not need filler metal and can eliminate or minimize the number of cracks and porosity defects. The FSW principle uses tools that rotate and move across so that the material occurs forging at the center of the weld and finally melts. The FSW welding process variables are tool parameters and welding parameters. Welding parameters include rotational speed, tool slope, travel speed, shoulder penetration, probe penetration, probe shape and dimensions, shoulder shape and dimensions, material tools, and others. In this study, the effect of temperature variation of heating elements used in welding polyethylene (PE) material on tensile strength by tensile test is examined. From the tensile test data, it is found that the higher the temperature of the heating element during the FSW process, the feeding translation tool will increase and the tensile strength of the FSW joint results will also increase and vice versa. The lowest tensile strength occurs at temperatures of 0 ° C (without preheating) and 100 ° C (using preheating), namely 4.465 MPa and 14.25 MPa. The highest tensile strength occurs at heating element temperature of 140 ° C which is 24.71 MPa while the tensile strength of polyethlyene material without FSW connection is 29 MPa.Keyword : friction stir welding, feed rate, polyethylene, the tensile strength of welded joints.

Abstract

Information technology has been rapidly developed in term of implementations, nowadays. It can be applied to various fields such as the inventory management systems of laboratory. Currently, the laboratory management system in the Mechanical Engineering of University of Riau has used a conventional management system, yet. Therefore, the management of inventory equipments might be not optimize due to still using manual process. The purposes of this research are to design, develop and test of inventory management system based computerize for laboratory equipments in the Mechanical Engineering of University of Riau. The research method was divided into two stages: (1) analyzing of current laboratory conditions by using of visual control/ management and Kanban system and (2) to design, develop and test an information system of inventory management for laboratory’s equipments. A system of application program was created using PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) as programming language and MySQL as the database. The stages of system design were to develop a database table of subsystem, subsystem models, the dialogues subsystem and display interface system (users interface), and the menus structure. The inventory management based information system that can minimize human error, know exactly the amount of goods and material, be quickly and facilitate a recapitulation and reports, facilitate monitoring and inspection. As a result, the performance of management of inventory/ supplies laboratory equipments in Mechanical Engineering, University of Riau was more optimal, effective and efficient.Keywords: Information System, Laboratory Management, Inventory, MySQL, PHP, Kanban.

Abstract

Research on the C+/ Channel Plus Product Forming Process on Cold Form Steel, is done because of the mildsteel with the new profile shape of C + (Channal Plus). This project purpose to determine the process of formingprofile C+ by considering the limits and tolerances allowed. Determining the forming process is an attempt madeto produce a Channal plus profile by considering the properties of the material, including the physicalproperties, mechanical properties and the formability of the profile material. An analytical approach is anattempt to avoid defects in products in a particular area from the result of forming. Each forming has a varietyof shapes, dimensions and functions. It takes the forming stages to produce light steel rod products ranging frommild steel raw material (coil) to the desired profile type. The result of the forming process is shown in the formof a flower diagram and is loaded in a 2 dimensional engineering drawing using Autodesk Inventor software.Key words: shape, dimension and function

Abstract

The camera is a tool for capturing waves of light reflected by an object, so that the object can be mapped in the form of an image on an image digital camera whose result is an image in digital form. Image processing is done with a digital computer so the image to be processed first is transformed into discrete quantities of gray level values at the points of the image element. Generally digital images are rectangular which has a certain width and height, which is usually expressed in the number of points or pixels (picture element or pixel). Image size can also be expressed physically in units of length (for example mm or inch). The determination of volume in the optical grading system can be done using laser triangulation method and wide measurement of 2D imagery, after that using a computer algorithm to get the results of 3D images to determine the volume of objects. Optical grading methods usually use the camera to obtain 2D images (area width) or use the weight of the product to estimate the real volume. An algorithm that combines triangulation (2D) techniques and 2D measurements can be used to construct 3D surfaces so that they can measure the volume of a product. Abstract

The calibration of dial calliper is the form of activity to determine the truth of the conventional value by using measuring ruler with the measuring clock as the substitute of a nonius scale. The degree of accuracy from a dial inching ruler is the same as the nonius inching bar, 0.10 mm, 0.05 mm or 0.02 mm. On the dial inching bar with the accuracy of 0,10 mm by using the standard JIS B 7507-1993 method. As a result of analysis, the uncertainty value of the measuring instrument from dial caliper I at a rate of trust 95% with a coverage factor of k = 2 is U95 = ± 9.50 . The uncertainty value of the dial caliper II at a rate of trust 95% with the coverage factor k = 2 is U95 = ±9,50 . The uncertainty value of the dial caliper III at a rate of trust 95% with the coverage factor k = 2 is U95 = ±9,50 . Measurement error / deviation measuring clock caliper (dial calliper) I and II with the measuring block measuring 150 mm is 0.00007 mm. While the clock measuring caliper (dial calliper) III with the measuring block measuring 150 mm is -0.04993 mm. Based on the table errors that allowed JIS B 7507-1993 is ± 0.07 mm so caliper measuring clock (dial calliper) I, II and III are still within the allowed tolerance limit mistakes and still feasible to be used.Keywords:Calibration, Calliper, Dial Calliper,Standard JIS B 7507-1993

Abstract

Threshing station is the separation palm kernel process from the bunch by way of slamming into a rotating drum. The purpose of this research is to design an automatic control system on the threshing station model using PLC Zelio smart relay. PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is a microprocessor based on instrument that can be programmed to control the machining process automatically. The threshing station model is a shape which resemble of threshing station palm oil mill of PT. Perkebunan Nusantara V - PKS Sei Galuh, it has been scaled 1 : 8. This design has 2 inputs namely push button to turn on and turn off of the works system, a rotary encoder sensor to detect the rotation screw conveyor, and has 3 outputs namely 3 units of DC motors. The programming language is used the ladder diagram by using the Software Zelio Soft 2. This design consist of the design of ladder diagram program, an automation control system design in the auto feeder and the rotary encoder sensor design. The result of this design is revealed that auto feeder runs automatically turn on for 60 seconds and turn off for 30 seconds, continuously. The rotary encoder sensor works with voltage is 4.4 Volt at the moment un-stunted and 0 .1 Volt when the stunted.Keywords : Automatic Control System, Threshing Station Model, PLC Zelio Smart Relay, Rotary Encoder Sensor.

Abstract

Lathing process is one of the main processes in the manufacturing industry. In the process of turning a product at TU EMCO CNC machine -2a SMKN2 Pekanbaru possible deviations from predetermined geometric characteristics. Aluminium is a light metal having corrosion resistance and good electrical conductivity. In the process of making a product (workpiece) is meticulous, the deviation of the shape, position, place, and rotate deviation to wardsan element geometry (point, line, surface or intermediate area), should be clearly limited to the value of a certain tolerance. Tolerance limits the form of deviation, position and place on aswivel deviation geometric element is referred to as geometric tolerances. Roundness and diameter are the two different geometric character, though interrelated, the lack roundness will affect the measurement results diameter, other wise the measurement of the diameter is not always going to show lack non roundness. From the results, the value of the roundness deviation of each variation of the feeding speed on the machine for the Minimum circumscribed circle feeding speed difference deviation 20 is between 0,011mm to 0,115 mm. feeding speed 40 is between 0.023 mm to 0.063 mm.feeding speed 70 is between 0.040 mm to 0.144 mm. On the Maximum incribed circle speed difference deviation 20 is between 0,007 mm to 0,100 mm. feeding speed 40 is between 0.025 mm to 0.059 mm. feeding speed 70 is between 0.010 mm to 0.108. In the Minimum zone circle feeding speed difference deviation 20 is between 0.011 to 0.109 mm. feeding speed 40 is between 0,024 mm to 0,076 mm. feeding speed 70 is between 0.044 mm to 0.092 mm. At Least Squares Circle feeding speed difference deviation 20 is between 0.008 to 0.029, feeding speed 40 is between 0.005 mm to 0.053 mm. 70 feeding speed is between 0,021mm to 0,047 mm.Roundness deviation value and average Least squares circle every variation of feeding speed, then at a feeding speed of 20 near-perfect roundness deviation value after deducting the correction factor Roundness Tester Machine tools, namely between -0.017 mm to 0,023 mm and the average value of 0.0037 mm.Keywords: feeding speed, Deviation, Roundness Tester Machine.

Abstract

This research refers to the increasing economic value of waste management special automotive equipment on dry type motorcycle batteries. This research was conducted by using descriptive method which includes observation, interview, and documentation which then continued with process of disassembling and separation of recyclable component for next price determined. The purpose of this research is to know the increase of value selling process from the waste battery, and to know the process of disassembling of battery and difference of economic value before and after recycling. Before through the process using the battery used for Rp.10.000,- s/d Rp. 14,000,- per unit, but, after passed by the process of recycling the battery price becomes to Rp. 22,218,- per unit, in this case can be seen increase in economic value of Rp. 8,218,- per unit of battery or approximately 58.7% per unit of dry used battery. This indicate a significant increase in economic value through the process of recycling these dry batteries, so it can become a profitable new business fieldKeyword : Battery, Automotive, Waste

Abstract

Cylindrical grinding is a fundamental process in the final machining a component that requires a smooth surface roughness and precision tolerances. Cylindrical grinding processparameter variations, among others, the speed of rotation of the workpiece and the depth of cuts. This study used three variations of round rotation workpieces are low speed (83 rpm),medium speed (194 rpm) and high speed (304 rpm). Likewise with varying depth of cut is 0.005 mm, 0.010 mm, 0.015 mm. The average value of surface roughness of AISI 4140 steelcylindrical grinding tolerances based on the value of the average surface roughness / Ra are as follows : Class N7 roughness , Ra 1.6 , Tolerance ( m) ( + 50 % and - 25 % ) is 1.2 to 2.4 , asample length of 0.8 mm. The level of the average surface roughness according to the work cylindrical grinding results Steel AISI 4140 are as follows: Working Process is finishing, Hose ( N ) N4 - N8 , Ra 0.1 to 3.2. Parameters workpiece rotation speed and depth of cut for surface roughness cylindrical grinding process AISI 4140 steel workpiece is rotating speed194 rpm and 0,010 mm depth of cuts .Keywords: Cylindrical Grinding, Rotation Speed, Depth of Cuts, Surface Roughness.

Abstract

The Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is one of the methods of maintenance activities, which aim to preserve and maintain the quality of the equipment or machinery. This research aims to analyze the performance of thresher machine using OEE method (case study: threshing station in PT.Tri Bakti Sarimas). Thresher is used to separate the cook fruitless from bunches. The research was carried out on one thresher unit in PT. Tri Bakti Sarimas, which engaged in palm oil processing industry that produces crude palm oil and kernel. The research method used the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) approach to analyze the value of OEE and 5S. Analysis over a period of one month and grouped by five days were obtained the OEE value for period of 1-5 April of 72.50%, 6-10 April of 62.22%, 11-15 April of 69.17%, 16-20 April of 57.92%, 21-25 April of 46.60% and 26-30 April of 59.17%. The OEE value of the thresher machine was still belowed the standard OEE word class, which was over 85 %. The main cause of the low OEE values of the thresher machine was compared word class value due to requiring a time for the repair and maintenance processes. Then the idling and minor stoppage losses and set up/adjustment losses factors of the six big losses contributed significantly in lowering the OEE, an average percentage was 48.23 % and 43.06 % respectively. For 5S the problems that occur at the station were mostly found on the condition of the production floor that was dirty, un-tidy, and un-organizer. Therefore, the thresher machine electiveness and productivity may improve by adoption the TPM and 5S methods in the company case study.Keywords: OEE, SixBig Losses, 5S, Thresher
