Abstract

Most areas in the Pamboang sub-district have a hilly and mountainous topography with a tropical solar climate. The fertile natural conditions are very supportive making it a potential area for agriculture and as a place for mushroom cultivation. Urawa oyster mushrooms are the first group that is productive in developing oyster mushrooms in Majene Regency. However, the number of oyster mushrooms produced is not in line with public demand. The indigenous people of Majene are still unfamiliar with the processing and taste of oyster mushrooms. This community service campaign aims to introduce oyster mushrooms as a diversification of processed food. The method of community service activities uses counseling, training and mentoring methods. This activity was attended by 30 participants from the general public, 2 traditional leaders, and 10 students of the Biology Education study program at the University of West Sulawesi. The training activity was carried out by involving all participants in making various processed oyster mushrooms such as crispy mushrooms, meatballs, nuggets, crackers, and shredded. These processed products can be stored for a long time, are practical, and are in the form that popular among the public. In addition, assistance is carried out in obtaining Urawa product P-IRT permits at the health office. Diversification of processed mushroom products will greatly help increase the marketing of oyster mushrooms and help the partner's economy as a creative business. The implementation of the activities was very good as indicated by the increase in the knowledge and skills of the participants before and after the training.

Abstract

Pathogenic bacterial contamination was a serious matter due to its capability in reducing food quality and health. This study aimed to select various types of algae in Luk Coast, Sumbawa Regency that have the potential to produce antibacterial compounds for natural food preservatives. Algae on Luk Coast was identified by means of morphological characters, followed by sample preparation and extraction of secondary metabolites (bioactive compounds). Algae extracts were used in antibacterial tests against food spoilage bacteria, such as Escherecia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella thypi, Enterobacter cloacae and Pantoea agglomerans. Five types of algae identified were Padina sp., Halimeda opuntia, Sargassum horneri, Sargassum crassifolium and Galaxaura rugose. The five algae have the growth-inhibiting ability toward the tested bacteria. The highest inhibition zone was obtained from the 100% algae extract concentration.

Abstract

Universitas Sulawesi Barat (Unsulbar) launched its primary Learning Management System (LMS) named E-learning of Universitas Sulawesi Barat or often called “E-learning Unsulbar” in 2020 (https://elearning.unsulbar.ac.id/). Implementing E-learning at Unsulbar is one of the university’s efforts to maximize distance learning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. A study was conducted to evaluate E-learning readiness to measure the readiness of new students of the Biology Education Study Program towards the E-learning implementation. It is a quantitative descriptive study using a survey method adapted from a questionnaire developed by Akaslan and Law. The respondents were 77 new students from the biology education class of 2020 in the odd semester of 2020-2021. The measurement adapts three main stages, i.e., readiness (technology, people, institutions, content), acceptance, and training. The result showed that the readiness of new students for E-learning Unsulbar for technology and training factors were 3.1 and 3.3, respectively. It was categorized as not ready, which means that there needed to be more readiness of students’ internet infrastructures and academics who need training in using E-learning Unsulbar. Meanwhile, the scores for the factor of people, institutions, content, and acceptance were 3.8, 4.2, 3.85, and 3.9, respectively, and categorized as ready to be implemented. This result is an evaluation material for the university in determining the right policy for implementing E-learning Unsulbar.

Abstract

After around two years of having online learning, students in the universities have to come back to face-to-face learning mode as it was before the pandemic. This setting also applied to the biology education study program of Universitas Sulawesi Barat. The current study investigated the students’ perspective on changing online to face-to-face learning after COVID-19. It is a qualitative descriptive study with nine students as respondents from the classes of 2019, 2020, and 2021. The instrument used was an interview guide consisting of indicators regarding online teaching and learning features, assessment, and interactions that students needed to experience in face-to-face settings but would like to. In addition, students' perceptions of the advantages and disadvantages of the shift from online to offline learning were also assessed. The data analysis was performed in three stages: data reduction, data display, and drawing a conclusion or data verification. The result showed that several things they would like to have as it was during online learning were (1) have electronic materials, online-games-based learning, and more time to complete the assignments, (2) get various types of assessments including via online platforms (3) to have online applications or media to discuss learning materials and submit assignments. (4) In addition, for the advantages, the practicums could be conducted in laboratories, they felt more concentrated during offline classes, and became more confident to apply IT skills during offline settings, while the disadvantages were feeling anxious and fear to interacting during offline class and trouble to listen to lecturers’ class while having masks. Overall, students feel face-to-face learning is way more effective and efficient but suggested blended learning as an interesting mode in the learning and teaching implementation.

Abstract

Dry leaves or grass in schools are generally thrown away or burned which has an impact on pollution and environmental pollution. Prevention of this pollution can be done by utilizing the dry leaves/grass into other products that are more useful. The Biology and Science Education Study Program Community Service implementation team in collaboration with the Polewali Mandar District Mobilizing Teacher Community provided training for teachers to be able to process dry leaves/grass in the surrounding environment into bokashi fertilizer. This community service aims to provide knowledge and skills to the community regarding the processing of dry leaves/grass into bokashi fertilizer. This activity was carried out by providing material and the practice of making bokashi fertilizer. Participants in the activity gave a positive response to the implementation of the activity. The results of the lesson indicate that the majority of the participants agreed that the lesson was in line with the topic and that the instructor was capable of providing materials and answering questions appropriately. In addition to that, participants agreed that the course increased the teacher's ability to transform dry leaves/grass in the schoolyard into bokashi fertilizer.

Abstract

Taman Bahari Gonda Polewali Mandar (Polman) merupakan kawasan perencanaan ekowisata bahari yang mengalami destruksi karena adanya kerusakan ekosistem mangrove. Hal ini memberi dampak negatif pada kehidupan ekosistem pesisir dan juga dampak ekonomi bagi masyarakat sekitar, sehingga menjadi urgensi untuk mengembalikan keberlangsungan ekosistem mangrove di taman bahari Gonda tersebut dengan melalui restorasi ekosistem Mangrove. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat tentang pentingnya mangrove dan upaya restorasinya, serta melibatkan mereka dalam kegiatan restorasi dan pengelolaan mangrove secara berkelanjutan. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini meliputi : (1) Sosialisasi Program Kegiatan, (2) Presentasi dan Diskusi, (3) Demostrasi dan Praktek Lapangan, dan (4) Monitoring dan Evaluasi. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat menjadi lebih sadar akan pentingnya mangrove dan upaya restorasinya. Mereka juga mampu melakukan penanaman propagul dengan benar dan kegiatan ini juga memberikan dampak positif bagi ekonomi masyarakat, karena dapat meningkatkan potensi pariwisata dan penghasilan dari produk-produk yang dihasilkan dari mangrove

Abstract

Macroalgae have various types of bioactive compounds that have potential as antibacterial. This study aims to determine the type of macroalgae that have the potential as an antibacterial in the waters of Dato Beach, Majene Regency. The research was conducted using cruising survey method by exploring the intertidal area of Dato Coastal Waters, Majene Regency. This study consisted of 3 (three) stages, namely the observation stage, sampling, identification stage based on morphology in the form of thallus color, thallus shape and branching type. and the stage of testing the potential of macroalgae as an antibacterial based on literature studies and phytochemical screening. The results showed that there were 9 species of macroalgae found in the intertidal area of Dato Beach consisting of 5 (five) types of brown algae (Ocrophyta), namely Turbinaria decurrens, Padina australis, Sargassum crispifolium, S. polycystum, S. oligocystum; 2 (two) types of red algae (Rhodophyta) Galaxaura rugosa, Acanthophora spicifera; 2 (two) types of green algae (Chlorophyta) Halimeda opuntia and H. macroloba. Of the 9 types of macroalgae found, 5 of them were positive for containing active compounds of flavonoids, steroids/triterpenoids and alkaloids. Abstract

Penelitian Research and Development ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik Elektronik (e-LKPD) Berbasis Search, Solve, Create and Share (SSCS) Mata Pelajaran Sistem Pernapasan Untuk Siswa Kelas XI, yang valid praktis dan efektif. Adapun, prosedur penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah model ADDIE yang terdiri dari 5 tahap yaitu analisis (Analyze), perancangan (Design), pengembangan (Develop), penerapan (Implementation), dan evaluasi (Evaluation). Lokasi penelitian di MAN 1 Majene, Kabupaten Majene, Sulawesi Barat. Subjek penelitian adalah kelas XI MIA 1. Penilaian validitas e-LKPD berbasis SSCS dilakukan oleh 4 validator ahli yang menggunakan lembar penilaian validasi ahli materi dan ahli media, kepraktisan dinilai berdasarkan respon pendidik dan respon peserta didik dengan menggunakan angket yang telah dinyatakan valid oleh validator dan keefektifan diukur dengan menggunakan tes hasil belajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa diperoleh nilai rata-rata total validitas dari ahli materi sebesar 84% dan ahli media sebesar 78% yang artinya e-LKPD berbasis SSCS yang dikembangkan telah memenuhi kriteria valid. Hasil analisis kepraktisan media pembelajaran e-LKPD berbasis SSCS menunjukkan nilai rata-rata total kepraktisan dari respon guru sebesar 86% yang berada pada rentang nilai (81-100%) dan respon peserta didik 72.5% yang berada pada rentang skor (61-80%). Sehingga, dapat disimpulkan bahwa e-LKPD berbasis SSCS telah memenuhi kriteria praktis. Persentase perhitungan analisis hasil belajar peserta didik yang mencapai ketuntasan adalah 66,67%. Perolehan analisis tersebut jika dicocokkan dengan tabel kriteria keefektifan yang berada pada rentang skor (61-80%) yang artinya e-LKPD berbasis SSCS dapat dikatakan “efektif”.

Abstract

Increasing scientific publications is an indicator that shows the teacher's ability to write down his thoughts and disseminate scientific activities that have been carried out. Currently, the average SMA Negeri 1 Pamboang Majene has never participated in scientific article writing training activities, so partners need scientific article training to increase teacher professionalism, especially at State High School. 1 Pamboang Majene. The PKMM team collaborated with SMA Negeri 1 Pamboang Majene to conduct training and mentoring for SMA Negeri 1 Pamboang teachers. This activity was carried out in October 2022-January 2023. This activity was attended by 29 participants from SMA Negeri 1 Pamboang Majene offline. The title of the workshop activity was themed "Scientific Article Writing Training to Increase the Professionalism of Teachers of SMA Negeri 1 Pamboang, Majene." Based on the results of the evaluation carried out, it is known that the material presented is important and useful material as well as the need for teachers to improve teacher professionalism in these schools.

Abstract

Kelompok Tani Siamasei merupakan salah satu kelompok tani yang mewadahi petani bawang mandar di Desa Lego. Saat ini banyak petani bawang mandar yang mulai beralih pada komoditas pertanian lain sebab menganggap pertanian bawang mandar kurang memberi keuntungan. Padahal bawang mandar merupakan salah satu komoditas khas Sulawesi Barat yang banyak digunakan dalam berbagai olahan makanan. Hal ini disebabkan oleh berbagai permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh petani bawang mandar, diantaranya menurunnya produktivitas bawang mandar akibat penurunan kualitas lahan pertanian. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, maka solusi yang ditawarkan adalah dengan kegiatan pelatihan dan pendampingan sistem pertanian berbasis teknologi biofertilizer. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah agar peserta mengetahui teknologi pupuk hayati berbasis mikroorganisme yang dapat membantu petani untuk meningkatkan produktivitas bawang mandar tanpa merusak kondisi lahan. Pengabdian ini meliputi beberapa tahap kegiatan antara lain FGD, pembuatan starter dan biofertilizer, pelatihan dan pendampingan, serta monitoring dan evaluasi. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah diproduksinya starter mikroba yang dapat digunakan oleh petani sebagai stok untuk membuat biofertilizer secara mandiri. Selain itu melalui kegiatan pelatihan dan pendampingan, petani memperoleh informasi baru mengenai teknologi pemanfaatan mikroba dalam pembuatan pupuk hayati. Dari tahap evaluasi diperoleh hasil bahwa sebanyak 88.5% peserta berpendapat bahwa kegiatan pelatihan telah berjalan dengan baik.
