Abstract

AbstractBarnacles are symbiont and harm to the crabs when they are in large numbers. They will affect the respiration, normal activity and growth of the crabs. The prevalence, mean intensity and identification of pedunculate barnacle, Octolasmis spp. on blue swimming crab, Portunus pelagicus from the coastal area of Kuala Terengganu were studied. The site specificity of the different species of Octolasmis attached was examined. The crabs were measured and weight. The crabs were euthanized by put in ice until no movement. The Octolasmis were observed from the surfaces and gills or brachial chamber. The Octolasmis were observed from each gill. The prevalence and mean intensity was calculated. The Octolasmis were preserved in 70% alcohol and mounting using glycerine jelly to make the permanent slide. A total of all 13 crabs were infested by four species of Octolasmis which is 218 Octolasmis angulata, 191 Octolasmis warwickii, 16 Octolasmis tridens and 218 Octolasmis lowei. Octolasmis angulate showed the highest prevalence (84.62%) and lowest prevalence was O. lowei (23.08%) and O. warwickii (23.08%). The barnacles were attached to the gill, carapace, abdomen and also walking legs. Barnacle occurred most frequently on the gill part by having 371 (57.70%) barnacles compared to other areas, 272 (42.30%) barnacles. The distributions of barnacle in this study suggest distal areas are more susceptible in infestation by Octolasmis spp. However, they did not show site specificity on the gill areas because it depends on the water current.

Abstract

Abstract Argulus japonicus being parasite with blood sucking the host, do infestations by piercing the skin of the host through a maxillule and preoral stylet. The infestation causes ulceration and bleeding, thus giving access to secondary infection by bacteria, fungi, viruses, and causes death. The act of controlling against Argulus japonicus can be done by reduce in population which began in eggs stadium. Control over A.japonicus can use natural insecticide that is papaya seeds. Papaya seeds contain the active substance that are saponins, tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids which act as a natural insecticide. The research design was a completely randomized design with a treatment that were 0 ppt, 70 ppt, 80 ppt, 90 ppt, 100 ppt, and five replications. Data were analyzed by using analysis variance (ANAVA). The results showed that the juice of papaya seeds affect the egg damage of Argulus japonicus. Concentration of 100 ppt juice of papaya seeds can broken A. japonicus eggs with the largest percentage is 100%. Concentration of 90 ppt that percentage of eggs of A. japonicus were damaged by 83%, 74,25% of 80 ppt concentration, 59% of 70 ppt concentration, and 0% of control. Optimal concentration of papaya seeds which resulted in the amount of damage more than 50% of Argulus japonicus eggs is 80 ppt.

Abstract

Abstract Tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon Fab) is one of the economically important shrimp, until 1992 became the most important of non petroleum export commodity from fishery sector. Since the end of 1993 up to now, the Penaeus monodon Fab death level has been relatively high and due to this circumstance have been caused many ponds collapsed so that the shrimp production was dramatically declined for year by year. Ujung Pangkah District is one of the Gresik Region areas which have big fisheries potensial, aspecially for the breakist water pond, that the topest as the other district. There are a lot of shrimp dead casis until now. But, so that 80% of breakist water pond were broken and not operational. The objective of this societies service activities is applicated a new shrimp culture technology with traditional plus probiocirculation system (PBS) for increases the shrimp harvest at Ujung Pangkah District Region of Gresik, from May until Oktober 2014. The method using in the activity were socialitation/counseling, dempond and guiding to application of the PBS model in one period. Monitoring and evaluation about this result were done in one month after the activity ending. This result showed that a positive indication. There was the knowledges of the farmer inceases by socialitation, it also applicated a model in the right method for shrimp culture. There were also showed that the PBS model can in ceased the shrimp harvest from 217 kg/ha to 872 kg/ha, it means was increased 303,7%. The conclution of this activity is the PBS model can used for breakist water pond idle revitalitation to increased the shrimp harvest and can applicates in more larges area in Gresik Region.

Abstract

Abstract The high interest of public to Marine fish, making more request of chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus). Chub Mackerel is one commodity that has economic and high nutrient value. The Chub Mackerel obtained from the Indonesian importation from China. However, fish importation can be affected by diseases caused by helminthic endoparasites infection. The parasites that infected chub mackerel probably be caused by pollution due to environmental factors that could decreased the immune system, and making a fish easily infected by helminthic endoparasite as Anisakis. This parasite is zoonosis and could infected to human. Therefore, identification and prevalence of this parasite was needed in order to human consumed and managed this fish correctly. The purpose of this study was to identify and to know the prevalence of this helminth that infected a chub mackerel fish (Scomber japonicus) from fish importation that were sold in Fish Landing Base Muara Angke, North Jakarta. Research methodology using survey methods through sampling at locations directly. Fish samples were examined as many as 60 samples of chub mackerel. The main parameters are observed prevalence of helminth and helminth that infect in gastrointestinal chub mackerel. The result identification of helmint that infect chub mackerel descriptively analyzed and presented in the form of figures and tables. The result showed the presence of the third-stage larvae Anisakis simplex that infected the intestinal mucosa and lumen of chub mackerel fish, in Fish Landing Base Muara Angke, North Jakarta with prevalence was 70%.

Abstract

Abstract Goldfish (Carassius auratus) is one of the most popular freshwater fish, therefore they has a very great potential market. Increased effort in Goldfish (Carassius auratus) aquaculture industry, fish farmer also faced greater problems. One of it is disease caused by ectoparacites Lernaea cyprinacea. The predilection of Lernaea cyprinacea can be be directly visible, by the presence of parasites attached to the body surface, fins, gills, eyes and mouth of fish. Lernaea cyprinacea attack on fish can cause pathological change such as lesions and nodules on the skin and fins. This research was conducted in March-November 2013. Location of sampling conducted in Tulungagung East Java while Goldfish (Carassius auratus) pathological examination in the Laboratory of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Airlangga University. The purpose of this study was to determine the predilection of Lernaea cyprinacea that mostly infested on Goldfish (Carassius auratus) and knowing the change of anatomical pathology in Goldfish (Carassius auratus) infested by Lernaea cyprinacea. The method used was a survey method with random sampling technique and change in anatomic pathology described by the scoring method. The result showed that the predilection of Lernaea cyprinacea mostly infested on Goldfish (Carassius auratus) on dorsal and caudal fin, anatomic pathology changes on Goldfish (Carassius auratus) that infested by Lernaea cyprinacea are abscess, haemorhage, laceration, and fins damaged
