Abstract

[Bahasa]: Penguasaan bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa resmi internasional merupakan tuntutan bagi siswa agar mampu bersaing di era globalisasi. Masyarakat di daerah destinasi wisata seperti Lombok membutuhkan penguasaan Bahasa Inggris yang baik agar memudahkan mereka untuk mencari lapangan pekerjaan. Oleh karenanya siswa di sekolah harus mendapatkan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang baik agar memiliki kompetensi yang memadai. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis narasi bahasa Inggris bagi siswa kelas IX melalui pemanfaatan gambar berseri. Metode pengabdian yang digunakan adalah dengan pengabdian tindakan kelas (PTK) dengan partisipan sebanyak 24 siswa kelas IX. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan media gambar berseri dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis naratif dalam Bahasa Inggris. Kata kunci: gambar berseri, bahasa Inggris, kemampuan menulis [English]: Mastery of English as an official international language is a demand for students to be able to compete in the era of globalization. The residents in tourist destination areas such as Lombok need to master good English in order to be easier in finding jobs. Therefore students in schools must get good English learning in order to have adequate competence. The purpose of this community service activity is to improve the ability to write English narratives for students of class IX through the use of serial images. The method used was classroom action research with 24 students as participants in IX grade. The results show that the use of serial image media in learning English can improve the ability to write narratives in English. Keywords: picture series, English, writing skill

Abstract

Bahasa, sastra, dan Ideologi adalah tiga terma yang tidak dipisahkan. Karya sastra apapun adalah merupakan produk bahasa. Sementara itu, di dalam setiap karya sastra terdapat ideologi. Di dalam ideologi terkonstruksi pandangan penulis yang mencakup pandangan hidup, nilai-nilai budaya, sosial, ekonomi, agama, dan lain sebagainya. Ideologi yang termuat dalam karya sastra memiliki tujuan diantaranya adalah menggugah pembaca agar mengikuti arah pikir penulis atau tendensi penulis. Inilah kemudian yang disebut dengan politik sastra atau proganda sastra. Dalam konteks disiplin ilmu, ideologi memang bukan istilah yang dimiliki oleh sastra namun lebih sering dipakai pada disiplin ilmu sosial dan politik serta diidentikkan dengan kekuasaan.

Abstract

Artikel ini menginvestigasi perbedaan konotasi istilah warna dalam masyarakat barat (pengguna Bahasa Inggris) dan Masyarakat Suku Sasak Lombok Indonesia dengan perhatian khusus pada penggunaan figuratif warna hitam, putih, abu-abu, coklat, kuning, merah, hijau, biru dan beberapa warna lainnya. Konotasinya dinilai berdasarkan apakah frasa-frasa di mana istilah warna terjadi biasanya ortofemistik, eufemisme, atau disfemistik. Berdasarkan analisis dan pembahasannya, dapat disimpulkan beberapa hal; bahwa secara kuantitas, pemaknaan secara orthopemis, eufimis, serta disfemis masyarakat barat lebih kaya dibandingkan dengan pemaknaan yang ada pada masyarakat suku Sasak. Dalam masyarakat barat, pemaknaan orthophemik lebih sering terjadi, sementara pemaknaan secara eufimis dan disfemis, sering juga terjadi walaupun intensitasnya tidak sama seperti dalam orthophonemik, dan ini merata kita temukan dalam semua warna di masyarakat barat apakah untuk warna primer maupun warna sekunder. Sementara itu, dalam masyarakat suku Sasak makna orthopemik, eufimis, dan disfemis hanya dapat ditemukan pada warna primer. Sementara warna sekunder (warna yang berasal dari percampuran warna lain), hampir jarang ditemukan pemaknaan konotasi yang bersifat eufimis, dan disfemis. Kalaupun ada, itupun dikarenakan karena masyarakat mengambil atau meminjam istilah atau frase itu dari bahasa lain. Kekayaan pemaknaan konotatif warna pada masyarakat disebabkan karena proses semiosisnya dipengaruhi oleh cara pandang, kekayaan budaya, kekayaan pengalaman, kejadian yang beragam yang terjadi pada masyarakat barat berbeda dengan apa yang terjadi dengan masyarakat suku Sasak.

Abstract

Sapaan dalam suatu komunikasi memegang peranan penting. Perananpentingnya sapaan dalam komunikasi bukan hanya terletak pada penentuanbentuk-bentuk sapan yang tepat yang akan digunakan, melainkan jugadapat mempengaruhi lancar atau tidak lancarnya komunikasi antarpembicara dengan mitra bicara. Lebih jauh Kartomihardjo (1988:238) mengemukakan bahwa sapaan merupakan salah satu komponenbahasa yang penting karena dalam sapaan dapat ditentukan apakah suatuinteraksi akan berlanjut atau tidak.

Abstract

This study examines the meaning and message of a tradition that has a very deep meaning. This thesis aims to find out the meanings and messages contained in the traditional Buginess mappacci culture in Sidenreng Rappang. This study uses qualitative research methods with analysis using the theory of Charles Sanders Pierce.From the results of the study, it was revealed that the preparation and procession in mappacci is a Bugis custom whose implementation uses leafs, mappacci is a form of hope and prayer, for the welfare and happiness of the prospective bride and groom, which is arranged in a word summary of nine types of equipment. Pillows, silk covers, jackfruit leaves, banana shoots, pacci leaves, rice, candles, pacci holders, brown sugar, and coconut. That is the meaning contained in the mappacci ceremonial equipment which is always carried out at every Bugis traditional wedding in Sidrap Regency. Pacci leaf is a kind of plant in Indonesian, henna plant, and in Latin, it is called lawsania alba which means to clean or purify oneself. Thus the implementation of mappacci contains a symbolic meaning of cleanliness or holiness which aims to cleanse the soul and body of the prospective bride and groom before navigating the household ark. The uniqueness of this tradition can be seen from the social stratification in the mappacci procession, namely the giving of silk sarongs where people who are not of noble descent give seven silk sarongs while those of noble descent give nine silk sarongs. The meaning and message are contained in the mappacci process because it contains a good meaning and purpose.Based on the conclusions of the research, the researchers suggest: The Bugis community maintains the culture that has been inherited from the culture of their ancestors and it is hoped that the younger generation can preserve that culture, where the Bugis mappacci traditional wedding culture contains values ​​and meanings for the message of life mean well.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate instructors' pedagogical proficiency in the teaching of English. Three MA NW Aik Bukak, Lombok, English teachers were involved as the subjects in this research. Qualitative research was conducted through observations and interviews to find out the data. Qualitative analysis was also done by categorizing the findings from observation and interview. The interview was used to determine the pedagogical proficiency of teachers in the English teaching at MA NW Aik Bukak, and the observations were utilized to observe the process of teaching and learning English in the classroom. The results of this study demonstrated that teachers’ pedagogical competence was rated as good revealed in the 18 indicators of pedagogical competence. Additionally, the MA NW Aik Bukak teachers' pedagogical proficiency in teaching English was also considered sufficient confirmed from the interview. Researchers advised the teachers to take an attempt to enhance their strategies and competency before and while teaching. They must also employ some engaging techniques in order to increase students' enthusiasm and motivation in learning English.

Abstract

Sebagai keterampilan yang kompleks, menulis tidak mudah diajarkan karena melibatkan banyak keterampilan dan aspek kebahasaan seperti perencanaan, penyusunan, dan penyuntingan, pengejaan, tata bahasa, tanda baca, dll. menjadi lebih kompleks yang membutuhkan cara yang menarik untuk mengajarkannya. Oleh karena itu, salah satu cara yang tampaknya cocok untuk mengajarkannya adalah dengan menggunakan media yang menarik misalnya komik strip yang dapat memudahkan siswa dalam proses menulis. Oleh karena itu, penelitian kuantitatif dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan komik strip dapat meningkatkan keterampilan menulis narasi siswa. Untuk melaksanakan penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan siswa kelas IX 2 sebagai subjek penelitian ini. Melalui data yang dikumpulkan dari pre-test dan post-test, diperoleh hasil bahwa penggunaan komik strip berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan menulis narasi siswa yang tercermin dari hasil post-test karangan mereka yang mencakup semua aspek kebahasaan yang disebut isi, organisasi, kosakata, tata bahasa, dan mekanika. Perbedaan signifikan dalam temuan dapat dilihat pada skor rata-rata. Berdasarkan bukti-bukti tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemanfaatan komik strip berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan menulis narasi siswa. Akibatnya, menemukan cara yang menarik dalam mengajar menulis narasi seperti menggunakan komik diperlukan untuk mengatasi kesulitan menulis siswa

Abstract

Teacher mentors play a crucial role in supporting and guiding student teachers during their teaching practicum. While the benefits of teaching practicum and mentorship are well-documented, this qualitative study aims to delve deeper into the experiences of five EFL student teachers to understand the role of  teacher mentor during student teacher practicum. Through in-depth interviews, the research explores the perceptions of student teachers towards the practicum and mentorship. The results reveal that the role of teacher mentors is positively perceived by most of the students, because most of the mentors play a pivotal role in providing guidance and motivation, desiging a lesson plan and giving constructive feedback.  However, some students experienced lack of guidance, support as well as constructive feedback from the teacher mentors. In general, the mentorship aspect is particularly valued, as it offers essential support and professional growth opportunities. However, amidst the positive experiences, the study also uncovers various challenges encountered by student teachers such as lack of class management skill, limited student engagement and active involvement in the learning process, inadequate facilities, limited technology or classroom space and lack of sufficient preparation.

Abstract

Peer learning has been widely recognized as an effective strategy in inclusive education, promoting student collaboration, enhancing academic outcomes, and addressing diverse learning needs. However, a significant gap remains in understanding how peer learning is implemented across different institutional and national contexts, especially in inclusive settings. While prior studies have addressed peer learning in general, few have compared its practical application across countries with distinct educational systems. This study investigates how peer learning is enacted in inclusive classrooms in Thailand and Indonesia, focusing on teachers’ beliefs, instructional strategies, and challenges encountered during implementation. Employing a qualitative research design, data were gathered through interviews and classroom observations to explore authentic classroom practices. The findings reveal both shared patterns and contextual differences in the use of peer learning, shaped by each country’s institutional structures and education policies. While initial student collaboration varied, many learners demonstrated increased participation and interaction over time. This study addresses the lack of cross-national research on inclusive peer learning and offers insights that may support educators, researchers, and policymakers in designing more responsive and culturally informed frameworks for peer learning in diverse, inclusive classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationship between vocabulary mastery and writing ability among members of the English Study Club. The method used is quantitative with a correlational approach. The sample of the study consisted of 25 members who were selected randomly. Data were collected through vocabulary mastery tests and writing ability tests. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing ability, with a value of r =0.01. This finding indicates that increasing vocabulary mastery contributes to improving writing ability. This study provides recommendations for English teaching to focus more on vocabulary development ini order to improve students' writing ability
