Abstract

This study creates and tests the GeoSmart app as an interactive learning tool for high school students to understand geospheric phenomena. The research encompassed concept creation, design, material acquisition, assembly, testing, and dissemination. The study involved a planned group of high school students from Tasikmalaya City. We administered questionnaires and comprehension tests both before and after using the app to collect data. The program significantly improved students' understanding of geospheric phenomena. Statistics verified these benefits, showing that GeoSmart's interactive features engage students and help them understand complicated subjects. The findings suggest that the GeoSmart application has considerable potential for broader adoption in geography education, as it effectively enhances both learning quality and student motivation. This study stresses how important technology is in education and suggests more research be done to look into the long-term effects and wider use of GeoSmart apps.

Abstract

Critical thinking is an essential skill in 21st century society. The condition of students' critical thinking skills is the basis of implementation Problem Based Learning (PBL) in geography class. This study aims to determine the level of Influence of the PBL on Students' Critical Thinking Skills on Natural Disaster Mitigation material. This research used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design, which is a design consisting of two groups, namely the experimental and control groups. Sampling technique was purpossively, consisting of 13 experimental class students and 12 control class students. The data collection technique involves written essay tests in both pretest and posttest. The data has been analyzed quantitatively. The research results indicate that, descriptively, students in the PBL group achieved higher average scores in critical thinking skills compared to those in conventional learning. Furthermore, a significant difference exists in critical thinking skills between the PBL group and conventional learning, with PBL demonstrating a significant impact on students' critical thinking skills. It is better if the PBL is given by teachers to improve students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Floods are one of the most frequent disasters that hit Indonesia, especially North Aceh District. Flood is a disaster that causes a lot of loss in the form of property and lives, disrupting the activities of the population. Therefore, flood disaster mitigation is important to be carried out by the government by involving the community to reduce the impact of flood disasters that occur so that this can reduce the number of flood risks. One of the efforts made by the government is a cooperative relationship between the government and the community to obtain optimal results. In reviewing flood mitigation efforts, a qualitative approach was carried out with research procedures that produced descriptive data. This descriptive data can be sourced from the local community and observable community behavior. Data collection was carried out by means of in-depth interviews. The results of the analysis show that there has been a flood mitigation effort from the government in the Krueng Keureuto area in the form of the current dam construction and cooperation with the community which is called community participation. This is done by inviting the community to be able to carry out flood disaster mitigation plans. Mitigation planning activities involving the community are carried out by studying and discussing things that might happen before the flood occurs, emergency response during the flood and post-flood recovery. Therefore, disaster mitigation is needed both structurally and non-structurally.

Abstract

21st-century learning requires students to have critical thinking skills essential in the era of globalization. The purpose of the study is to examine the influence of the use of the Google My Maps-based Site Plan project on students' critical thinking skills at SMA Negeri 1 Jatiwangi. Quasi-experimental research method with a non-equivalent control group design, this study involved class XII IPS-3 as an experiment and XII IPS-2 as a control. Data analysis was carried out through statistical tests such as normality, homogeneity, Wilcoxon, N-Gain, Mann-Whitney, and simple linear regression tests. The results showed that the experimental class experienced an increase in critical thinking skills with an N-Gain of 0.44 (medium category), compared to the control class which only achieved an N-Gain of 0.26 (low category). Significant differences were found between the two classes, with a Google My Maps-based project contributing 62% to the improvement of critical thinking skills. It is recommended that the process of creating a project is accompanied by intensive monitoring.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe how the implementation of contextual learning based on local potential, as well as describe the perception of students and teachers in Cirebon Regency. The method used is quantitative descriptive. The data collection technique was carried out through the distribution of questionnaires for students and teachers for several schools that are close to local potential sources such as the batik and Trusmi industry, pottery businesses, salt ponds, and leather cracker businesses. The results of the study showed that students had a high interest in contextual learning based on local potential.  the impact of contextual learning of real life is 39% students strongly agree and 65% students agree. And teachers' perception of contextual learning in geography, as many as 91% of teachers have a good understanding of the basic principles of the contextual approach. In addition, 92% of teachers believe that contextual learning can improve students' understanding of geography subjects. Some schools supported by institutions have implemented contextual learning processes based on local potential. However, on the other hand, this study shows that there are obstacles in the contextual learning process. Among them are time constraints, and support from schools. This study concludes that contextual learning based on local potential has a positive impact on improving the meaning and quality of geography learning. As well as being able to increase students' love for their respective regions. Therefore, teacher training and sustainable education policies are needed to support the integration of local potential into the learning curriculum.
