Abstract

ANAK-ANAK SEKOLAH DASAR yang menjadi objek dari program ini, ANAK-ANAK SEKOLAH DASAR adalah salah satu yang terkendala dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar Bahasa Inggris. Keinginan pihak sekolah untuk mengajarkan Bahasa Inggris kepada para peserta didiknya tidak dapat terealisasi oleh karena tidak adanya tenaga pengajar mata pelajaran tersebut. Hal ini berakibat kepada tidak maksimalnya performance sekolah sebagai lembaga pendidikan dalam menghasilkan peserta didik yang mempunyai daya saing ditengah berkembangnya zaman dan perlunya menguasai dasar Bahasa asing khususnya Bahasa Inggris. Untuk memberi solusi terhadap permasalahan tersebut, pihak sekolah meminta pelaksana agar memberikan pembelajaran seperti pelatihan Bahasa Inggris dalam 1 semester dengan ditunjang tenaga pengajar Bahasa Inggris yang kompeten dan berdedikasi tinggi.Target yang telah dicapai dalam pelaksanaan untuk program IbM pada ANAK-ANAK SEKOLAH DASAR, khususnya untuk kelas 5 (lima) adalah:1.        Menimbulkan ketertarikan dan minat terhadap Bahasa Inggris di kalangan peserta didik;2.        Menanamkan rasa percaya diri (confidence) peserta didik dalam berbahasa Inggris;3.        Meningkatkan perbendaharaan kata Bahasa Inggris (vocabulary) pesertadidik;4.        Menghasilkan peserta didik yang menguasai Bahasa Inggris, bukan sebatas teori saja namun juga dalam berkomunikasi sehari-hari;Adapun metode atau strategi yang digunakan pelaksana untuk mencapai target tersebut di atas adalah:1.        Menanamkan persepsi bahwa belajar bahasa asing itu menyenangkan, dengan menampilkan tayangan dan objek-objek menarik berbahasa Inggris;2.        Mengenalkan aplikasi youtube sebagai media yang bisa digunakan dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris;3.        Menitikberatkan pengajaran Bahasa Inggris sebagai alat komunikasi daripada hanya sebagai mata pelajaran yang cukup diketahui teorinya saja;4.        Memberikan materi serta stimulasi dalam menajamkan keempat keterampilan berbahasa Inggris;Setelah melakukan pelatihan sebanyak 8 pertemuan menunjukan hasil yang sangat signifikan, dimana anak-anak sekolah dasar tertarik dan minat terhadap Bahasa Inggris, percaya diri, perbendaharaan kata meningkat, dan mampu berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris. Keuntungan pembelajaran dengan video adalah menghadirkan representasi gambar dan suara dari suatu peristiwa kepada peserta didik di kelas, khususnya saat ini menggunakan kelas online.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to describe readability of reading texts in textbook, ‘Pathway to English’ for SMA/MA Grade X’ published by Erlangga. The study is a quantitative content analysis. The source of the data was the textbook, and only reading texts with minimally 150 words in length were taken as the sample. 22 reading texts that matched the criteria were analyzed quantitatively in percentage form. Result of the data analysis shows that reveals that 9 (or 41%) reading texts match tenth grade level, but the rest, 4 (or 18%) reading texts are to easy, at 7th-8th grade level. and 9 (or 41%) reading texts are are fairly difficult to difficult, at 11th-16th grade level. Put it another way, 59% reading texts with minimally 150 words in length selected for use in EFL textbook ‘Pathway to English’ published by Penerbit Erlangga in 2016 were not in accordance with tenth grade SMA students’ readability level. In addition, It was also found that the data show that readability level of a text do not depend on text length.

Abstract

The purpose of this research to find out the effectiveness of using the movie as a media of learning to improve students listening skills especially in Dictation. The researcher uses Pre – Experimental Research and the sample of the study is the 9th grade students in SMP Anugrah Tondano and the total number of the sample are 20 students. The instrument of this study is an answer sheet consist of 20 numbers that students have to fill with word. The data were calculated by the result of students’ Pretest are 41 and Posttest are 77. The students gained scores from Pretest to Posttest are 36. The result of this research showed that using a movie as a media of learning to improve students listening skills especially in dictation is effective.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe listening comprehension problems faced by students when taking the TOEFL-like test. This research is a descriptive research. This research is also categorized as a survey, the broad area of survey research encompasses any measurement procedures that involves asking questions of respondents. Furthermore, the researcher gave questions to the sample in form of questionnaire to get the data about listening problem faced by students taking TOEFL-like. In this research, the researcher used the questionnaire to collect the data. After discussion in the previous chapter, finally leads the researcher to make conclusion from what have been already discussed. The conclusion is among the twenty indicators, all the indicators came from various sides, such as: students' side, TOEFL organizer, material, listening equipment and another supported thing that related to the activity on TOEFL test especially listening skills.

Abstract

The aims of the research are to find out the types of directive illocutionary acts in “The Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2”, and to interpret and explain the contextual meaning of those directives. This research is a qualitative research. The steps that the researchers have taken in order to collect the data are watching the movie, marking the types of directives that identified as asking, commanding, requesting, ordering, forbidding, advising, and suggesting, and interpreting the meaning of those directives. The data are categorized based on Vanderveken’s classifications. The three steps proposed by Miles and Huberman for data analyses are used in this study: data reduction, data display, and data verification/conclusion. The findings of this study reveal a total of 51 speech acts uttered by the characters in the movie The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2.This research is suggested to be a reference for the readers and the other researchers in order to learning and interpreting the directive illocutionry act in movies or the other literature works.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is To find out the moral values in T.S. Arthur’s Short Story An Angel in Disguise. This research is qualitative research since the data are collected from the primary source in the short story Angel in Disguise and the secondary source are books and the references that can be support this research. In analyzing the research the researcher uses objective approach that focused the internal elements of this short story as plot, characters, setting and so on. The results of the research shows moral values such as: Caring and responsible to children, Sympathetic to everyone who needs it, Empathy is needed to save someone life, life need patience, Be kind-hearted by giving hand to others and The power of love.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the perceptions of students about the use of song for speaking skill. The researcher used questionnaire in this research. The researcher used descriptive method which is survey method to analyze the data. Survey method was used to analyze the data directly from people. The population of this research were the third grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tomohon. There were 10 classes that divided into 5 science classes, 3 social classes, and 2 language & culture classes. There were 297 students of third grade at the school. The sample was 15% of the population and the researcher used simple random technique. In other words, there were 44 students participated in this research. Based on the findings of the research, it was found that the students as the sample had a great deal in experience by using song, and the perception from the questions were dominated positively. The conclusion was the use of song considered to be beneficial and effective for third grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tomohon. It was suggested to English teachers to always improve the way of teaching, monitoring the improvement of technology that can be improved things especially in learning speaking and gain the benefits from the result.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the students’ anxiety in speaking English. In this study, the researcher used a descriptive quantitative approach in order to answer the proposed questions. The sample that was taken from one class only with the total of students were 36 students. Therefore, it can be said that one of three indicators the represent the anxiety of students in speaking English, the most dominant is the second indicator, namely text anxiety where students feel the most anxious and worried when faced with formal situations such as exams, tests, midterm exams or practical exam. The test anxiety indicator is the indicator that covers the most questions in the distributed questionnaire, which includes 15 questions related to it, so it can be said that there is a need for a special method that can be a solution to students’ anxiety in speaking which is dominated by fear informal learning situations. Thus, for students who have been felt or experienced speaking anxiety, perhaps that students study hard to minimize their anxiety such as increasing reading books, listening to music, watch western movies without subtitles. Finally, always be brave, confident, don’t be afraid to try to speak with others and speaking skills. Furthermore, the students need to implement more in speaking and for the further researcher, perhaps this research can be used as a source of reference for their research.

Abstract

This research aims at the influence is being found in blended learning method towards students learning outcomes. This research utilized a quasi-experimental research with experimental group and control group. This research was conducted to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Tomohon in the academic 2020-2021. The subjects of this study are 40 students. For the experimental group there are 20 students and in the control group there are 20 students. The data were collected through test given to the both groups. Blended learning can be used to develop students’ learning outcomes in English speaking skill greeting material. It can be seen from the students’ score of experimental group is higher than control group. The mean score of the experimental group is 85, 15 and the mean score of the control group is 45, 35. It can be concluded that blended learning method have a significant impact on students’ learning outcomes in English speaking skill greeting material.

Abstract

This study was conducted to describe sacrifice and explain its actions and values of sacrifice in Oscar Wild’s The Nightingale and the Rose. This study was focused only to analyze sacrifice in Oscar Wild’s The Nightingale and the Rose. More specifically, the focus will be on the sacrifice done by The Nightingale. This research used qualitative research design because the data are in the form of quotation or description. In carrying out this research, the data were collected from the short story written by Oscar Wild entitled The Nightingale and the Rose as primary source and also supported by other relevant references such as books, documents and web sources about sacrifice which considered as secondary source. In analyzing the data collected, the researcher applied objective approach and describe the sacrifice and its actions and values in the short story. The findings demonstrate that giving attention, showing affection, and self-sacrifice are actions of sacrifice, whereas unconditional love and risk-taking are values of sacrifice.
