Abstract

This paper describes an investigation about the relationship between students' writing knowledge and second language writing performance. Metacognitive and metalinguistic knowledge contribute significantly to writing performance. As a foreign language, 78 undergraduate students took a writing knowledge class and a writing proficiency test. The knowledge process has a strong influence on writing performance. Except for vocabulary knowledge, other aspects and sub-aspects had no significant effect on writing performance. Vocabulary knowledge had a negative impact on writing performance. In other words, while some aspects and sub-aspects of writing knowledge did not significantly influence writing performance, others did. The pedagogical implication is that all aspects of writing knowledge must be explicitly taught in writing instruction in order to improve students' writing quality. However, there must be a priority of aspect as the core of the material to be taught, with the other aspects and sub-aspects serving as complementary materials. This could result in a moderate relationship finding and a low percentage of contribution. Undergraduate English as a Foreign Language students from various institutions and provinces may have varying levels of language proficiency and writing skills.

Abstract

The theory of psychoanalysis developed by Sigmund Freud is one of the most influential contributions in the history of modern psychology. This research discusses the role of Sigmund Freud's concepts of psychosociality in understanding individual dynamics in contemporary psychology. This research method adopts a qualitative research design. As for this research, it is accompanied by a library approach. This approach was chosen to explore and analyze Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theories through relevant library sources, such as books, journal articles and Freud's primary sources. Through an analysis of the literature, Freud's contribution to the understanding of personality structure, the concept of libido, and self-defense mechanisms is explained. The data collection technique in this research was carried out through a literature review. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman model, which is a systematic approach to analyzing qualitative data. Data analysis according to the Miles and Huberman approach is a systematic process for understanding and interpreting data in a study. The findings of this research highlight the relevance of Freud's concepts in modern therapeutic approaches and understanding of human behavior. Suggestions for the development of integrative therapeutic approaches, comparative studies between Freudian and alternative theories, and policy implications for psychological education are also discussed.

Abstract

Both AI and teacher feedback have benefits in improving students' writing skills. However, there are still differences in perception about the effectiveness of each type of feedback in helping students develop their writing abilities. This study aims to compare students' perceptions of the effectiveness of feedback provided by AI and teachers in enhancing writing skills. A descriptive-quantitative research method was used to conduct a survey among 62 eleventh-grade students in Palangka Raya. A Likert scale assessment was used in the questionnaire to evaluate ten indicators, including unity, coherence, content development, grammar, vocabulary, mechanics, personalization ability, response speed, feedback reception, and alignment with learning objectives. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, revealing various findings. The results indicate that AI is superior in terms of unity, content development, grammar, mechanics, and response speed, while AI and teachers are considered equally effective in coherence, personalization ability, and alignment with learning objectives. Both sources also show nearly equal effectiveness in vocabulary and feedback reception. In conclusion, AI plays a crucial role in providing fast and structured feedback, yet the teacher's role remains essential in more personal and contextual aspects, highlighting the importance of balancing technology and human interaction in education.
