Abstract

This study examines ethnomathematics in traditional tools of the Malay ethnic group at the North Sumatra Provincial Museum, encompassing ceremonial and livelihood tools. The research employs a qualitative approach using ethnographic methods to explore the mathematical concepts embedded in these objects. Ceremonial tools such as bentan, tiered trays, incense burners, and glass holders were analyzed based on geometric concepts such as circles, cylinders, ratios, and sequences, while livelihood tools such as goat hoofs, horns, sickle, and one-sided fish traps represent spatial geometry, symmetry, and volume concepts. The findings reveal that these traditional objects not only serve practical purposes but also contain mathematical and philosophical values reflecting Malay culture. These tools can be utilized as context-based mathematics learning media, helping students understand mathematics through the lens of local culture. This study emphasizes the significant role of ethnomathematics in integrating education with cultural preservation while strengthening local identity in the era of globalization.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in problem-solving and critical thinking skills between students taught using the Reciprocal Teaching and Problem-Based Learning models in class X of SMK Ki Hajar Dewantara Kotapinang for the 2021-2022 academic year. This is a quantitative study using a quasi-experimental design. The population consists of all class X students at SMK Ki Hajar Dewantara Kotapinang in the 2021-2022 academic year, totaling 111 students. The sample used was class X AKUNTANSI 1 and X AKUNTANSI 2, each consisting of 20 students, chosen as experimental classes using Cluster Random Sampling. Data were collected from pre-tests and post-tests with problem-solving and critical thinking skill test items, then analyzed descriptively and followed by Two-Way ANOVA. The findings indicate: 1) There is no difference in problem-solving ability between students taught using the Reciprocal Teaching model and the Problem-Based Learning model in class X of SMK Ki Hajar Dewantara Kotapinang, with F_observed = 0.320 < F_table(α= 0.05) = 3.978; 2) There is a difference in critical thinking skills between students taught using the Reciprocal Teaching model and the Problem-Based Learning model in class X of SMK Ki Hajar Dewantara Kotapinang, with F_observed = 5.128 > F_table(α= 0.05) = 3.978; 3) There is a difference in both problem-solving and critical thinking skills between students taught using the Reciprocal Teaching model and the Problem-Based Learning model in class X of SMK Ki Hajar Dewantara Kotapinang, with F_observed = 0.026 > F_table(α= 0.05) = 3.936; 4) There is no interaction between the Reciprocal Teaching and Problem-Based Learning models in class X of SMK Ki Hajar Dewantara Kotapinang, with F_observed = 0.459 < F_table(α= 0.05) = 3.936.

Abstract

Ethnomathematics knowledge towards mathematics learning. This type of research is exploratory research using an ethnographic approach. The results of the research show that there are ethno-mathematical aspects in the ornaments of the Al-Mashun Mosque, namely the dome, motifs on the entrance stairs, mosque pillars, motifs on the outer walls of the mosque, motifs on the floor, motifs on the dome, motifs on the entrance, and stairs. in the mosque. Where these ornaments can be linked to several geometric materials. First, flat shapes, such as squares, rectangles, right-angled trapezoids, isosceles trapezoids, triangles, rhombuses and octagons. Second, spatial shapes, such as tubes, balls, blocks and quadrilaterals. Third, regarding the concept of mathematical units.

Abstract

Ethnomathematics is one of the approaches that integrates local wisdom with mathematics learning. This study aims to develop PBL-based LKPD with ethnomathematics nuances at the Maimun Palace. This research method is research and development (Research and Development). The development model used as the basis for this study is the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). The results of the study showed that the LKPD developed was included in the valid category, for the average overall result of the LKPD validation assessment from the three validators was 4.35. In the implementation, the response of students to the LKPD with an average score of 4.48 was categorized as very good and met the practicality of the LKPD, so it did not need to be revised again. The PBL-based LKPD with ethnomathematics nuances produced, along with its supporting instruments, have met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Student Worksheets (LKPD) on social arithmetic material based on ethnomathematics with a contextual approach through the context of Maimun Palace to increase the learning interest of students in class VIII-1 at Cerdas Murni Junior High School. The approach used in this study is the ADDIE development model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The results of validation by subject matter, media, and language experts showed that the developed LKPD was in the highly valid category with an average score of 0.84. The practicality test conducted by teachers and students obtained an average score of 4.08, which was classified as highly practical, and the results of the student response questionnaire classification were in the strong category with a percentage of 79.57%. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the LKPD was observed through the results of a student learning interest questionnaire, which showed an increase from an average of 59.33% to 76.97%, which is classified as effective. Thus, the ethnomathematics-based social arithmetic LKPD through a contextual approach is declared valid, practical, and effective in supporting the mathematics learning process and can increase students' conceptual understanding and learning interest. The results of this study are expected to become an alternative innovative teaching material that supports more contextual learning activities and is in line with how the brain works.
