Abstract

This research aimed to obtain the empirical evidence of the effectiveness of Intensive reading on students’ reading comprehension. The sample of this research was students of class VII – I (as experimental groups) and VII – II (as control group) of the Mts Al Washliyah Kolam. The researcher used the Experimental Design as the method for the research. The students consists 2 groups, namely experimental group and control group. This research used pre-test and post-test.The result of the conclusion of t-test is that t-observed value : 11.38 with degree of freedom (df) = 76 is higher than the value of t-table (1,99). In conclusion, those findings in imply that the alternative (Ha) : Intensive Reading on vocabulary achievement is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. As a result, the impact of Intensive Reading has a significant effect on student vocabulary achievement.

Abstract

Pembelajaran sains sebagai subsistem pendidikan nasional memberi kontribusi penting dalampembentukan karakter siswa. Pembelajaran sains yang benar akan mengarahkan siswa untukmemiliki karakter-karakter diantaranya berupa kecermatan, disiplin, kejujuran, ketekunan,berpikir kritis, bertanggungjawab, dan saling bekerja sama. Desa Percut Sei Tuan salah satu desadi Kota Medan akan menjadi sasaran pengabdian masyarakat untuk melakukan pelatihan dansosialisasi terkait Membangun Pendidikan Karakter Melalui Pembelajaran Sains di Sekolah DesaPercut Sei Tuan. Hal ini dilakukan karena permasalahan yang berkaitan dengan Narkoba di Desaini agak mengkhawatirkan dan ini berkaitan dengan keluarga terdekat yang merupakan pemakaidan pengedar. Agar pendidikan karakter tidak bertambah merosot dan pengaruh narkoba tidaksemakin menjadi-jadi, maka perlu adanya penyuluhan ke sekolah- sekolah khususnya sekolah.Metode yang digunakan pada pengabdian ini adalah pendekatan keterampilan proses melaluipelatihan dan sosialisasi. Pendekatan keterampilan proses adalah proses pembelajaran yangdirancang sedemikian rupa sehingga siswa dapat menemukan fakta fakta, membangun konsepkonsepdan teori teori dengan keterampilan intelektual dan sikap ilmiah siswa sendiri.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menegetahui perkembangan pemerolehan bahasa pada anak usia 2 tahun khususnya pemerolehan fonem. Pengumpulan data diambil dengan merekam ujaran-ujaran anak sebagai subjek dari penelitian ini dalam percakapan sehari-harinya. Cara perekamannya dilakukan secara natural yaitu tanpa menyuruh anak mengucapkan kata-kata yang telah diatur. Perekaman dilakukan saat anak sedang bermain dengan menggunakan perekam dari handphone. Berdasarkan data yang telah dianalisis telah didapatkan temuan yaitu anak pada usia 2 tahun telah mampu mengucapkan kata. Beberapa fonem konsosnan  yang dapat  diproduksi  anak  usia  2  tahun ada  11 fonem yaitufonem/b/,/d/, /g/,/k/,  /l/,  /m/,  /n/,  /p/, /t/,  /y/, /c/. Ada 9 fonem konsonan variasi seperti/t∫/, /dj/, /ŋ/, /bh/, /dh/, /gh/, /‟/, /ch/, /ph/. Sehingga total fonem yang telah dapat di ucapkan anak berjumlah 20 fonem. Selain itu anak juga sudah mampu memproduksi fonem vokal seperti /a/, /i/, /u/, /e/, /o/. Dan 4 fonem vokal variasi yaitu /∂/, /ʌ/, / ε/, / ô/.

Abstract

The research aims to determine the influence of using series pictures towards students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at Smp Negeri 1 Pagaran .This is research design is experimental research.It was carry out into two groups; The experimental group (VIII 1) was taugh using the series pictures while the control group (VIII 2) was taught without series pictures .The instrument of this research is a multiple choice consisting of 20 question,the test consist of two types ,namely pre-test and post-test to collect data .After collecting data ,the writer then analyzed the test result using –test formula.Based on the data obtained ,it shows that the average pre-test score of the experimental group is 39.33and the control group is 36.33. Meanwhile,the post-test avverage score of the experimental group was 46 and the control group was and the control group was 53,66.Furthmore,it is obtained that the t-test is 1.96 and the table is 1.70 for 0.05 Because the t-test is higher than t-table (1.96>1.70) Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted there is a difference in the post-test mean score between the experimental group and the control group .Based on the result ,it was concluded that using the series pictures was influence in students’ reading comprehension skill in narrative text at SMP N.1 Pagaran.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of using picture as media towards students' English speaking skills. This research was conducted at MAS Al-Manar Medan in the academic year 2022/2023. The samples of this research were 37 students of class XI IPA and IIS. This research was conducted using an experimental research design with two classes, the experimental class consisting of 19 students and the control class consisting of 18 students. The experimental group was given pre-test, treatment and post-test and the control group was given pre-test and post-test. The instrument of this research was an oral test, which was given in the pre-test and post-test. The results of this research showed that the t-observed value was higher than the t-table (15.288 > 2.030). The alternative hypothesis was accepted. It means that the effectiveness of using picture as media significantly affected towards students' English speaking skills.

Abstract

Many students have difficulty mastering vocabulary in English, including student have limited vocabulary and also having difficulty remembering unfamiliar vocabulary. The purpose of this research is to find out whether the Memrise application has an effect or not to mastering vocabulary. This research was conducted using quantitative methods. The research sample consisted of 20 students in class VII-1 as the experimental class and 20 students in class VII-2 as the control class. From the data that has been analyzed, the researcher found that the average result of the experimental class was 34 while the average result of the control class was 22. The results of calculations using the t test showed that t observed was higher than the t table (6.06 > 2.02) with df: 38 at the significance level a=0.025. So the alternative hypothesis (ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. It can be concluded that the Memrise application in the vocabulary mastery learning process is effective to use.

Abstract

English is the most important subject nowadays. There are some texts which have to be mastered by junior high school students. One of the them is the narrative text, a text that tells a story, in which the social functions are to inform, entertain, or amuse the readers. students have problems and difficulty reading comprehension of story texts. They found difficulties in finding information, main ideas or intentions of sentences in the text. Besides that, their lacking of vocabulary that students have, what is contained in the contents of the reading is  not conveyed to students, and students' interest and motivation towards learning English is lacking. The purpose of this research is to find out whether the Comic Strips has an effect or not siginificant reading comprehension. This research was conducted using quantitative methods. The research sample consisted of 20 students in class VIII-1 as the experimental class and 20 students in classVIII-2 as the control class. From the data that has been analyzed, the researcher found that the average result of the experimental class was 35 while the average result of the control class was 25. The results of calculations using the t test showed that t observed was higher than the t table (4.48 > 2.02) with df: 38 at the significance level a=0.025. So the alternative hypothesis (ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. So it can be concluded that the Comic Strips in the improve reading comprehension learning process is effective to use.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas jenis-jenis strategi dalam pengajaran teks prosedur pada pemahaman membaca yang digunakan oleh guru, bagaimana guru menerapkan jenis-jenis strategi dalam pengajaran teks prosedur pada pemahaman membaca siswa kelas delapan di SMP Perguruan Sumatera Tanjung Morawa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode desain deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan instrumen sebagai berikut: observasi dan wawancara. Temuan penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa ada dua jenis strategi dalam pengajaran teks prosedur tentang pemahaman membaca yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris: QARS (Quest Answer Relationship) dan SQ3R (Survei, Menanyakan Membaca, Membaca, Meninjau). Kemudian dalam penerapan strategi pengajaran membaca pemahaman dalam teks prosedur, pada pertemuan pertama guru menggunakan Question-Answer Relationship (QARS) guru memberikan pertanyaan kepada siswa dan membimbing siswa menjawab pertanyaan yang berkaitan dengan teks prosedur, kemudian pada pertemuan kedua guru menerapkan SQ3R pada proses pembelajaran membaca pemahaman. Guru meminta siswa membuat kelompok belajar, meminta setiap kelompok membuat pertanyaan, menjawab pertanyaan dengan membaca kembali teks yang berkaitan dengan teks prosedur untuk menemukan jawabannya dan diakhiri dengan menyajikan hasil jawaban yang telah ditemukan. Strategi-strategi tersebut dikatakan efektif diterapkan dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca, siswa menjadi lebih aktif dan lebih fokus dalam memahami isi teks dan pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang berkaitan dengan teks prosedur.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of culturally responsive teaching on student participation and motivation in Social Science and Natural Science (IPAS) learning in fifth-grade students at SDN 060812 Medan. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 20 fifth-grade students as the subjects. The Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) for individual students in IPAS is 75, while the KKM for the class is 80%. Data were collected through student activity observation sheets, motivation questionnaires, and test results. Data analysis was performed using percentage techniques. The results of the study show a significant increase in student participation and motivation. In the first cycle, student participation reached 68.50% (good category), while student motivation was 70.25% (good category). In the second cycle, participation increased to 74.00% (good category), and student motivation reached 76.50% (good category). In the third cycle, a more significant improvement was observed, with student participation reaching 85.50% (very good category), and student motivation reaching 88.00% (very good category). Therefore, the implementation of culturally responsive teaching was proven effective in improving student participation and motivation in IPAS learning in fifth grade student at SDN 060812 Medan

Abstract

The aims of this study was to find out the significance effect of YouTube video in teaching writing ability of procedural text at MTS Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah Gedung Johor. The research design used in this study is an experimental design with a quantitative approach. The subject of the research was eighth grade of MTS Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah Gedung Johor which consisted of 50 students, there are class VIII-B as the experimental group and VIII-C as the control group. This research employed a test (pre-test and post-test) as an instrument and also observation and documentation as a compliment. They were organization ideas, developed ideas, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. After analyzing the texts written by the student, the researcher categorizes them into six categories, namely excellent, very good good, fair, enough, and need guidance. To analyzed data, the researcher used statistically and SPSS. The Mean Score and Improvement of The Students’ Writing Ability with YouTube Video 87.50% and without YouTube Video 68.75%. Students who taught by using YouTube video got higher score than students who taught without using YouTube Video. The results of calculations using the t test show that the t-test results from SPSS reveal a sig (2-tailed) of (0.01 < 0,05). There was significant effect of using YouTube Video for students, especially in english writing skills. The result of data analysis showed that by using YouTube video as media improved the students‘ ability in writing skill, stimulated the students to be more active, got interest, and motivation in joining the class.
