Abstract

Background: Obesity among adolescent girls is a growing public health concern associated with physical and psychological problems. One of the contributing factors is insufficient physical activity. Objective: To determine the relationship between physical activity and obesity among adolescent girls at State Junior High School 2 Penebel. Methods: This analytical observational study employed a cross-sectional design. A total of 46 participants were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected from February to March 2026 and analyzed using Spearman’s rho test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: All participants were 14 years old, with a mean body weight of 52.98 kg and a mean height of 154.56 cm. Most respondents had light physical activity (73.9%), while 67.4% were not obese. Spearman’s rho analysis showed a significant relationship between physical activity and obesity (p = 0.036). Conclusion: Physical activity was significantly associated with obesity among adolescent girls at State Junior High School 2 Penebel. Healthcare workers are encouraged to provide education on physical activity and obesity prevention through engaging media, such as Reels or short animated videos.

Abstract

Abstract   Adolescents require adequate reproductive health knowledge to recognize and avoid risky sexual behavior. This study aimed to analyze differences in knowledge scores about sexual activity before and after an educational intervention among female members of the Adolescent Information and Counseling Center (PIK-R). A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design without a control group was used. The population comprised 30 PIK-R extracurricular members, and 21 female students were selected through purposive sampling based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study was conducted on May 9, 2025. Data were analyzed using a paired-samples t-test. The mean knowledge score increased from 73.33 (SD = 9.79) at pretest to 87.14 (SD = 9.95) at posttest, representing a mean increase of 13.81 points [t(20) = -9.46; p < 0.001]. These findings indicate higher knowledge scores immediately after the intervention. Because the study had no control group and the posttest was administered 30 minutes after education, the findings do not establish long-term effectiveness. PIK-R may serve as a setting for reproductive health education that requires further evaluation.
