Abstract

An approach to get around difficulties in discovering reasonable feed materials is to use ex-mining land and palm oil waste in fish farming. This affects the minimal outcomes and profits realized from the business operations. In order to improve the quality of fish farming products, this community service aims to improve the community's knowledge and expertise regarding the use of waste palm oil as fish food. Training sessions using the lecture method, practice sessions, and mentoring are used to provide this program. After this program, the partners' understanding of processing palm oil waste as a source of fish farming feed improved, which enabled them to increase profits from their business.

Abstract

Negative interactions between humans and wildlife, as well as a decrease in the quality of wildlife habitat, can result in conflicts between humans and wildlife. Under certain conditions, this conflict can be detrimental to all parties involved. This Community Service (CS) project aimed to increase people’s knowledge and improve their attitude and perception towards the long-tailed macaque in Balun Ijuk Village. The project utilized three methods in stages: (1) Unstructured Interview, (2) Focus Group Discussion (FGD), and (3) Socialization. Ultimately, this CS project had a positive impact by increasing knowledge and improving the attitude and perception of the people towards the long-tailed macaque in Balun Ijuk Village.

Abstract

The aim of the Community Service (PkM) is to develop packaging quality and marketing strategies for Ran-Aini Arabica Coffee products. This PkM was carried out using two methods in stages, namely: unstructured interviews and mentoring. The results of the interviews show that Ran-Aini Arabica Coffee products are not developing well due to two obstacles, namely unattractive product packaging and limited product marketing. This is the basis for the PkM Team to immediately carry out assistance. The assistance provided by the PkM Team is in the form of assistance in making product packaging and assistance in marketing products via digital platforms. In the end, through this PkM, Ran-Aini Arabica Coffee products have attractive packaging, and sales accounts on WhatsApp and Instagram digital platforms are more effective marketing media.

Abstract

Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago with rich biodiversity, faces significant challenges in conserving endemic animals such as the Komodo dragon, Sumatran tiger, Bornean orangutan, and Javan rhinoceros. This Community Service (CS) program aimed to raise awareness and knowledge among Indonesian students abroad, particularly in Selangor, Malaysia, about the importance of conserving these animals. The program comprised four stages: a pre-test, educational sessions, a virtual tour, and a post-test. Results showed a significant increase in students' understanding, with the post-test average score reaching 85%, compared to 40% on the pre-test. The educational sessions successfully motivated students to participate in conservation efforts, demonstrating the effectiveness of the educational and participatory approach.

Abstract

Environmental awareness is essential for the conservation of biodiversity, particularly in regions rich in endemic and flagship species, such as Bangka Island. The Community Service (CS) program aimed to enhance environmental awareness among young adults in Riding Panjang Village, Belinyu District, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, through education on recognizing and conserving Bangka Island’s flagship and endemic species. This CS program, conducted on August 10th, 2024, included 25 participants aged 18-29 and involved three phases: pretest, education, and posttest. The pretest results revealed that participants had limited prior knowledge, with an average score of 56 points. The educational phase utilized interactive presentations to increase understanding of the species' ecological roles and conservation needs. Following the education, the posttest showed a significant improvement in knowledge, with an average score of 86 points, marking a 30-point increase. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of structured educational programs in raising awareness and engagement in biodiversity conservation. The results underscore the importance of conservation education, particularly for emerging adults who are more open to new ideas and prepared to adopt social and environmental responsibilities. This CS program successfully increased participants' understanding and motivation to support conservation efforts for Bangka Island’s unique species.

Abstract

The Community Service (CS) aims to empower students at SD Negeri 52 Pangkalpinang to enhance environmental awareness and foster ecopreneurship through environmental conservation education and practical skills. This CS encompasses 16 activities conducted from August 30th, 2024, to October 18th, 2024, involving 30 students from class V as participants. The results show that environmental conservation education and hands-on practice improved students' understanding, skills, and awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. Activities such as inorganic waste sorting and depositing selected waste at the waste bank, seedling tree planting, and placing succulents in classrooms effectively cultivated environmentally conscious behaviors among students. Furthermore, ecopreneurship training through the creation of eco-friendly products encouraged students to explore the economic potential of sustainable practices. With these outcomes, this CS is expected to impact the school and surrounding community and prepare students as a generation responsible for environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Former tin mining land (known locally as camoy or kulong) has the potential to be utilized as fish cultivation land. Kulong possesses potential for fish farming due to its age, which supports the availability of trophic minerals essential for fish life. Fish farmers frequently encounter problems with disease outbreaks and mortality caused by pathogens, leading to low production yields. Improving the quality of the cultivation environment, including reducing sedimentation from commercial feed, is one solution to mitigate fish diseases and mortality. This community service aims to provide training on environmentally friendly feed for fish farmers through training and mentoring in its application. The program successfully enhanced the partners' ability to produce cost-effective (organic) environmentally friendly feed from agricultural waste (oil palm kernel meal, dregs, bran), which demonstrably improved the quality of the cultivation environment, reduced fish diseases and mortality, and has the potential to increase the quality and quantity of fish production.
