Abstract

Conservation is one of the efforts that can be made to prevent the decline in the population of Mentilin (Chephalophacus bancanus bancanus) and maintain its existence in nature so that the population is not disturbed. PPS Alobi is an animal rehabilitation center that plays a role in ex-situ conservation efforts for wild animals, so it must have the capacity to realize the ideals of conserving wild animals while ensuring the welfare of these animals in captivity. This research aims to determine the management of keeping mentilin (Cephalophacus bancanus bancanus) in captivity at the Alobi PPS as a means of ex-situ conservation of wild animals. The research was conducted using a survey approach, open and closed interviews, and questionnaires. Mentilin (Cephalopachus bancanus bancanus) maintenance management at PPS Alobi based on drum management parameters adopts an outdoor cage concept. It is built based on the natural needs of mentilin (Chephalophacus bancanus bancanus), and there is environmental enrichment for mentilin activities. Feed management operational standard feed management includes feeding based on the type and amount of feed as well as the frequency of feeding. Health management carries out animal health checks when the animals enter the Alobi PPS, followed by routine checks on the animals. Intensive care for animals that are sick or in unhealthy conditions means the frequency of administration of medicines and vitamins will be more intensive. Animal Health Management is to determine the animal's condition to be released back into its habitat and is supported based on knowledge of Mentilin primate animal conservation. Keywords: Mentilin (Cephalophacus bancanus bancanus), Exsitu conservasi mentilin, Maintenance management mentilin.

This study aimed to determine the level of public knowledge of primates typical of Bangka Belitung and to determine public perceptions of conservation efforts for primates typical of Bangka Belitung. The research method was carried out by surveying respondents from five different villages in Bangka Island, namely Zed Village, Kemuja, Payabenua, Petaling and Terak Village. The questionnaire consists of three main aspects, namely knowledge, perception and concern for the conservation of primates. In general, the response of the people of Bangka Island to the topic of primate conservation, both in terms of knowledge, perception were relatively low. However, as this was a preliminary study, it is important to explore the reasons behind the responses given in this survey. Abstract

Kimak, Tanah Bawah, and Silip are three villages in Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Indonesia, where animals are still used for traditional medicine. This study aimed to collect, analyze, and evaluate data on the use of animals in traditional medicine by the communities of Kimak, Tanah Bawah, and Silip. The research was conducted over three months, from March to May 2024. Data collection involved surveys and informant selection using the snowball sampling method. Fifteen selected informants were interviewed based on a prepared questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively (using descriptive statistics) and quantitatively (calculating the Relative Frequency of Citation (RFC) and Informant Consensus Factor (ICF)). The results showed a positive correlation between informants’ age and their knowledge of animal-based traditional medicine, with informants over 45 years old possessing broader knowledge due to their longer life experiences. Dependence on traditional medicine was influenced by limited access to modern healthcare services and the cultural and spiritual significance of these practices. A total of 14 animal species from five classes were used, with Mammalia being the most dominant class (35.7%). Malayopython reticulatus had the highest RFC value (0.667), while species with the lowest RFC values (0.067) included Nisaetus cirrhatus, Galeopterus variegatus, Trachypithecus cristatus, and Nesolagus netscheri. The most commonly used body part was meat. ICF analysis indicated that disease categories such as skin ailments, internal injuries, nerve disorders, ulcers, hemorrhoids, and mental illnesses had the highest levels of informant consensus. Several used species are classified as threatened, highlighting the need for stronger conservation efforts through collaboration between the government, conservation organizations, and local communities. Balancing conservation with traditional medicine practices is essential to preserving cultural heritage while supporting ecological sustainability.
