Abstract

This study aims to (1) determine the amount of Willingness to Pay (WTP) for halal chicken meat (DA), and (2) the characteristics of halal chicken consumers who are willing to pay the WTP price. A total of 50 halal chicken consumers taken from 2 traditional markets were interviewed as respondents. To determine WTP, a hypothetical market approach is used with the Continget Valuation Method (CVM). WTP prices are divided into two categories; WTP0 corresponds to the market price, and WTP1 increases 5% above the market price. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, and variable logistic regression. The results showed that 85.35% of consumers were willing to pay a 5% price increase, while 14.65% were not. With this 5% price increase, halal chicken suppliers get an additional sales turnover of IDR 16.8 million per month or 201.6 million per year. Characteristics of respondents who determine WTP are education level, household income, and consumer awareness of halal products. The study concluded that the halal WTP allows suppliers to build small-scale halal slaughterhouses (200-300 heads) per day

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of addition of vitamin E commercial in andromed diluent on the pre-freezing spermatozoa quality in simmental cattle. The research method used a completely randomized design (CRD) method with 3 treatments and 5 replications, namely P0 (control), P1 (+ vitamin E 1 mg/ml) and P2 (+ vitamin E 3 mg/ml). Parameters measured were macroscopically (motility, viability and abnormality) at the time of pre-freezing. The results of this study showed a very significant effect (P<0.01) on the motility and viability of spermatozoa in the pre-freezing phase and showed no significant effect (P>0.05) on the abnormality of spermatozoa in the pre-freezing.

Abstract

The community’s need for food of animal origin increases in line with economic development, change in healthy lifestyles and awareness of health so that people tend to consume highly nutritious and healthy foods such as eggs. But eggs contain high levels of fat. To overcome this, duck eggs are preserved by ripening using sweet orange peel. This study aims to determine the fat content of salted duck eggs during ripening using sweet orange peel. This research method used a completely randomized design (CRD), namely 5 treatments (0%, 15%, 30%, 45% and 60% sweet orange peel extract) each with 2 replications. Tools and materials used are basins, analytical scales, jars, sandpaper, stove, pots, knives, plastic, labels, 40 duck eggs, 1. 250 ml of water, 1,200 grams of rubbing ash, 2,000 grams of bricks, 2,000 grams of salt and 720 grsweet orange peel. Parameters tested for salted duck egg fat content by ripening using sweet orange peel. Data analysis used Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results of the study found that the addition of sweet orange peel extract had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the fat content of salted duck eggs.

Abstract

The feasibility of a pea goat business based on a scale of maintenance is important. This is because goats have a fairly wide market share, ranging from the needs of meat consumption to the needs of aqiqah and sacrificial animals. This research aims to evaluate the viability of Peanut goat farming through the feasibility indicators of Break Event Point (BEP), Net Present Value (NPV), and Benefit Cost Ratio (B/C ratio) based on the ownership scale. The study was conducted in Sanrobone Takalar from April to July 2023. A survey method was employed, involving 60 households of goat farmers as the sampling units. These households were categorized into four ownership scales: 2-5 goats, 6-9 goats, 10-13 goats, and ≥14 goats. The measured and analyzed variables included cash flow, BEP, NPV, and B/C ratio. The research findings indicate that the ownership scales of 6-9 goats, 10-13 goats, and ≥14 goats have BEP values >1 and B/C ratios >1. On the other hand, the smaller scale of 2-5 goats shows BEP <1 and B/C ratio <1. In terms of the NPV indicator, positive values (>1) were obtained for all ownership scales, indicating the potential profitability of Peanut goat farming. In conclusion, this study suggests that all ownership scales are considered feasible, yet based on the BEP and B/C ratio indicators, the ownership scales deemed feasible are 6-9 goats, 10-13 goats, and ≥14 goats.

Abstract

The selling price of beef cattle is usually influenced by the appearance of the cow. This is generally called "Exterior Performance". Exterior performance is considered as a determinant of the estimated price of cows as seen from hip height, chest circumference, body length and shoulder height of bb cows. This study aims to inform farmers and traders in determining the estimated price of male Balinese cattle based on the assessment of exterior performance and fatness level. This research was conducted in January 2023 in the Awangpone sub-district, Bone Regency. This study uses Multiple Linear Regression analysis tools with t and f tests. Data were obtained through surveys, direct interviews with farmers using questionnaires, and taking measurements and observations of male Balinese cattle. The results showed that hip height, chest circumference, body length, shoulder height, and fatness level together (simultaneously) had a significant effect on the selling price of male Balinese cattle in the Awangpone sub-district, Bone district and individually (partially) the variable hip height and shoulder height had no statistically significant effect on the selling price of male Balinese cattle. In contrast, chest circumference, body length, and fatness level significantly impacted the selling price of male Balinese cattle in the Awangpone sub-district, Bone district.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Closed House (CH) and Open House (OH) systems can affect broiler productivity. This study aims to compare the performance of broilers raised in the CH and OH housing systems from the same core company. The contribution of this research is expected to provide additional information to previous studies and contribute to improving understanding of the performance comparison between broilers in CH and OH systems. The study was conducted in Takalar Regency, which is one of the broiler production centers using a partnership pattern. A survey method was used, targeting 3 samples each of CH and OH houses. Panel data from 11 production cycles were collected, resulting in 32 observations for OH and CH. The measured variables were mortality, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and performance index (PI). The data were analyzed using an independent t-test. The results showed significant differences in performance between OH and CH. OH had higher mortality, less efficient FCR, and lower PI compared to CH. This study concludes that CH housing is more productive than OH. To minimize risks in OH houses, it is recommended that farmers pay attention to microclimate control and improve feed nutrition. Keywords: broiler, mortality, FCR, performance index, closed house, open house
