Abstract

One way to improve behaviour is to provide dental health education using audio-visual media such as videos. Social media-based health education has been empirically proven to be effective in conducting health promotion efforts with the aim of increasing understanding and providing support to the community for healthy behaviour. Currently, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube are 3 of the 7 social media most accessed by Indonesians in 2023. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of dental health education with video media on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube on changes in public knowledge and attitudes about the importance of root canal treatment. This type of research is quasy-experimental without group controls, with a one group pretest-posttest design. The sample size was 60 people. Respondents filled out a google form link questionnaire that was distributed. The results showed that dental health education with videos on social media instagram, facebook and youtube was effective in changing people's knowledge and attitudes where the p value of the three social media was 0.000 where p < 0.005 (wilcoxon test). Different test of 3 social media with kruskal willis where the result is that there is no difference in effectiveness between the three social media (p value> 0.005). The conclusion of this study is that educational videos on social media Instagram, Facebook and YouTube are effective in changing people's knowledge and attitudes, but there is no difference in effectiveness between the three social media.   The results of this study can be a reference for using social media in dental health education so that it can be more accepted by the community. In the future, research can be developed with other types of social media and factors that affect the effectiveness of these media.

Abstract

Elderly is a part in the process of human development. Elderly is not a disease, but an advanced stage of the life process was characterized by a decrease in the body's ability to adapt to environmental stress. Increased incidence of chronic diseases in the elderly include heart disease, blood vessels, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, rheumatism and so on due to poor and sedentary lifestyles so that the morbidity rate in the elderly increases. Non-pharmacological treatment for the elderly one of them is by doing activities related to physical activities such as exercise in the elderly. Prolanis gymnastics is one of the government programs carried out on the elderly with the aim of reducing morbidity due to degenerative diseases experienced by the elderly such as hypertension. Prolanis gymnastics is light and easy to do and does not burden the elderly. The aim of the study was to determined the effect of prolanis gymnastics on blood pressure reduction. The method in this study is quasi experimental pre-post test with one experimental group. Samples from 12 people used purposive sampling. Data analysis was used Paired Sample t-test to find out different tests. Results: There is a significant difference between blood pressure before and after prolanis exercise with P Value = 0,000 or p < 0.05. Conclusions in this study indicate that prolanis gymnastics is effective in reducing blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension. Physical activity carried out regularly in the elderly can make a positive contribution in reducing blood pressure, so as to improve the quality of life and productivity of the elderly.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on mental heath, and in particular on health workers on the frontlines of pandemic response efforts, particularly in the context of COVID-19 vaccination. This study aimed to highlight the association of workload and adverse stress impact on healthcare workers during COVID-19 mass vaccination and its contributed factors. The method use a cross-sectional survey using a web-based questionnaire was conducted from the end of July to the beginning of August 2021. Participants were selected from all health facilities in Indonesia, with the minimal sample size 345 required. Logistic regression was performed using STATA 16.0 to assess the association between workload and perceived stress. This study revealed that prevalence of perceived stress was 36.2% among total of 447 eligible subjects. Health workers who had high-relatively levels of workloads (OR=1.76; 1.00-3.09) and without history of stress diagnosis (OR=5.23; 1.06-5.87) were more likely to develop perceived stress. The high level of workload was associated inversely with a decreased risk of stress according to age and stress diagnosis. The conclusions is a decreased risk of stress associated with workload among health professionals.

Abstract

Turmeric is one of the original spices and medicinal plants from the Asian region. The benefits of the turmeric plant are good as a complement to cooking spices, herbs/medicines, or to maintain health and beauty. Turmeric can also be used as a coloring agent, such as food coloring agents and dyes for woven fabric crafts. Turmeric plants are easy to find, so turmeric can be used as a substitute for disclosing solution (plaque detection liquid). This turmeric plant is very easy to obtain and does not incur high costs in its management. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of using turmeric (extract and juice) to detect plaque in teeth in 2019. This type of research uses a quasi-experimental type. The population in this study, namely level 1 military service, amounted to 76 people. The sample used is by using a purposive sampling technique totaling 20 respondents. The results showed an average difference between disclosing solution, 100% turmeric extract, 75% turmeric extract, and 100% turmeric juice. The average disclosing solution was 36.34, 100% turmeric extract 64.50, 75% turmeric extract 79.95, and 100% turmeric juice 90.00. The results of the one-way ANOVA test were sig 0.000 <0.05, meaning that there was an average difference between these variants, from the research results of turmeric extract and turmeric juice could detect plaque but were less effective as a substitute for disclosing solution in plaque detection.

Abstract

Caring behavior is the center of nursing practice, a very dynamic technique, where nurses work with care for their patients. The better the nurse's caring behavior in providing nursing services to patients, the better the level of patient satisfaction with nursing services. Currently, there are nurses and other health workers who are not friendly enough in providing services. The objective of this study is to determine the factors that influence the caring behavior of nurses who work at the Regional Public Hospital of East Nusa Tenggara Province, which are age, gender, education, training, employment status, marital status, work stress, work motivation and respect for nurse caring behavior. This research is a type of quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The population is all nurse administrators who work in 5 Regional Public Hospital of East Nusa Tenggara Province, amounting to 803 people. The number of samples of 161 nurses was taken by simple random sampling. Determination of the number of samples using the rule of thumb formula, namely 5 independent variables x 32 = 160 respondents. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Bivariate data analysis at a significant level of 5% (α = 0.05) using the Pearson Chi-Square test. Multivariate analysis using logistic regression test. The results showed that the factors that influence nurse caring behavior are employment status (p value 0.001) and motivation (p value 0.005). The results of the Odds Ratio (Exp. B) show that employment status is a determinant factor in the caring behavior of nurses in East Nusa Tenggara with an OR of 3,634, which means that nurses with civil servant status are 3.6 times more likely to behave in caring than nurses with contract employment status. It is suggested to examine other factors that can influence the caring behavior of nurses who work at the Regional Public Hospital of East Nusa Tenggara Province.

Abstract

Introduction: Dental and oral health issues remain a global challenge, with rising dental caries cases, particularly in regions like Sub-Saharan Africa and Indonesia, where 57.6% of the population is affected. Among Indonesian children aged 3-9, caries and toothache are prevalent, highlighting the need for early plaque detection and targeted interventions. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of disclosing solution gel formulated from Karamunting fruit (Melastoma malabathricum L.) as a dental plaque identifier in children attending the Special Education School under the Surabaya Foundation for Children with Disabilities. Methods: This study utilized a quasi-experimental design using a post-test with a control group framework. A total of 24 respondents were selected through random sampling and divided into four groups. The first three groups were given Karamunting fruit gel at concentrations of 7.5%, 10%, and 12.5% respectively, while the fourth group received a chemically-based disclosing solution as the control. This design allowed for a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of the natural and chemical formulations in detecting dental plaque. Results: The result of the analysis, conducted by using Kruskal-Wallis revealed a p-value of 0.004 (<0.05) indicating a statistically significant effectiveness among Karamunting gel concentrations of 7.5%, 10%, and 12.5% when compared to chemically-based disclosing solution. These findings demonstrate that Karamunting gel is effective in identifying dental plaque, with its efficacy varying significantly according to the concentration used. Conclusion: The disclosing solution gel derived from Karamunting fruit (Melastoma malabathricum L.) showed a potential as an effective alternative for dental plaque notification.

Abstract

Dental crowding is one form of malocclusion characterized by disparities between the size of the tooth and the arc dimension. It is commonly found in the anterior region. Keeping the crowded and misaligned tooth is hard, leading to more plaque accumulation and increasing the risk of gingival inflammation. This research aims to find the effects of anterior dental crowding on the Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified (OHI-S) and Gingival Index scores of Poltekkes Kemenkes Kupang students. This is a cross-sectional study performed by observational analytical study design. The population was the student of Poltekkes Kemenkes Kupang with anterior crowding. Using 70 samples were chosen using purposive sampling technique. The result showed that most of the students had moderate anterior crowding (45.7%), followed by mild crowding (30%) and severe crowding (20%). The chi-square test showed a significant effect of anterior crowding toward OHI-S (p=0.03) and GI scores (p=0.04). While Socio-economical aspect also showed a significant effect (p=0.00) on OHI-S scores. A significant effect of socioeconomic status was also recorded on GI score (p=0.00). An observation of the students' oral hygiene intention showed that they mostly had a moderate intention (72.9%) to keep their mouth clean, and the rest, 27.1% had high oral hygiene intention. This aspect also significantly affects their scores of OHI-S (p=0.00) and GI (p=0.01). This study concluded that anterior crowding, socioeconomic status, and oral hygiene intention can affect OHI-S and GI scores of the students of Poltekkes Kemenkes Kupang

Abstract

Oral hygiene is an indicator of oral and dental health which can be assessed based on the presence or absence of organic deposits, such as pellicle, materia alba (dental deposit), food residue, calculus, and dental plaque. Plaque is the cause of tooth decay among the world's population. Plaque on the tooth surface can be used as an indicator of oral hygiene. Poor cleaning can lead to stickier plaque and tartar after calcification. The thin plaque is almost the same as the color of the teeth, so that plaque cannot be seen with the naked eye. The presence of plaque that is formed from contact with oral fluids can be detected by using certain dye. This study aims to determine the Effectiveness of Purple Sweet Potato Extract and Disclosing substance for Plaque Identification among the children in Aisyah Orphanage, Tilatang Kamang Sub-District, Agam District. This was a quasi-experimental study with a post-test-only design. The samples of this study were 30 children at Aisyah Orphanage, Tilatang Kamang Sub-District, Agam District, with the inclusion criteria of children with permanent teeth and index teeth. The samples were selected through total sampling technique. The results showed that after applying purple sweet potato extract to the children at Aisyah Orphanage in Bukittinggi City, most of them had the Patient Hygiene Performance index (PHP) in the moderate criteria (50%). Furthermore, after applying disclosing substances to the children at Aisyah Orphanage in Bukittinggi City, most of them had the PHP index in the poor criteria (56.7%). The t-test independent statistical test results obtained a p-value of 0.000 (p <0.005), indicating a significant difference between sweet potato extract and disclosing substance. Disclosing substance was more effective than purple sweet potato extract in identifying plaque on the tooth surface. Further study is recommended to apply purple sweet potato extract with different concentrations as an alternative ingredient to identify plaque on the tooth surface.
