Abstract

Background: In the past years, Esport has been a phenomenon. It lies in a discussion of whether accepting esport as a part of sport categories or not. In fact, many argue about this because it has an impact on the physical activity and lifestyle of the players. This study focuses on the analysis of physical activity and lifestyle of esport athletes competing in annual sporting events throughout Indonesia. Method: In this study data collected from 50 athletes consisting of all men. The measurement method used in measuring the level of physical activity is the International Physical Activities Questionnaire (IPAQ). Result: From the completed questionnaire, it was found that the level of physical activity of the athletes reached 3120.2 (± 24.3) METs. This figure shows that athletes are still included in the category of high physical activity. Conclusion: The average level of physical activity of esport athletes is in the high category.

Abstract

Futsal is characterized as a high-intensity sport. Thus, aerobic and anaerobic capacities are essential factors for supporting athletes' performance when competing. Data related to adolescent futsal players in Indonesia still lacked. Therefore, this research objective was to determine how much aerobic and anaerobic abilities became the predictors of futsal athletes’ performance levels. The research method was observational research with a quantitative approach. The research subjects consisted of 15 Regional Training Center (PELATDA) athletes and 15 non-PELATDA athletes from West Java with an average of (age= 18.23 ± 1.13 years old, height= 170.23 ± 3.82 cm, body weight 59.57 ± 5.28 kg, BMI 20.56 ± 1.82 kg/m-2, and FAT 10.05 ± 1.29%). The results showed that body mass, body composition, VO2max, peak power, vertical jump, and fatigue index of PELATDA athletes were better than non-PELATDA athletes. Thus, this research could provide an overview for coaches regarding the aerobic and anaerobic capacities standards of adolescent futsal players and could be used as a reference in making an exercise program to improve athletes’ aerobic and anaerobic capacities.

Abstract

Athletes have a high need to maintain their performance to stay fit while performing a high training intensity and frequent exercise. It makes athletes have a high need for supplements. However, athletes are prohibited from taking supplements included in the doping category. The lowest risk of doping is herbal-based supplements. This study used a systematic review method. The screening employed the PRISMA method as the preferred reporting item for systematic review and meta-analyses. The articles were obtained from Scopus and Dimensions databases using “cinnamon” as the keyword. Furthermore, the words "cinnamon" and "athlete" were added so that the data were obtained more specific. The exclusion criteria of this study involved original article documents, while the inclusion criteria included not more than 5-year publications. In the article selecting process, there were four articles that fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria stating that cinnamon was effective for preventing inflammation that had an impact on accelerating recovery in athletes. Cinnamomum zylanicum is the most effective type of cinnamon for athlete recovery. It is because Cinnamomum zylanicum contains the most Cinnamaldehyde to help speed up recovery, which is most suitable for athletes. Thus, cinnamon is expected to be an alternative supplement for athletes to improve their performance.

Abstract

Air pollution is often associated with Upper Respiratory Infection (URI), and children are generally the most susceptible to URI. Although physical activity has a positive impact on health, it should be remembered that unhealthy pollution concentrations can eliminate the positive effects of physical activity. Thus, this research aimed to map the concentration of air pollution associated with the prevalence of URI symptoms and the level of physical activity in children throughout Java Island. This research uses a multicenter design, a descriptive quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach, within every six big cities on Java Island, Indonesia. The total subjects in this research were 1,216 male and female elementary school students from six provinces throughout Java Island (Banten, n=200), (Jakarta, n=200), (Bandung, n=202), (Semarang, n =210), (Yogyakarta, n=201), (Surabaya, n=203). Data was collected offline using the physical activity and URI questionnaires, accompanied directly by the original teacher. The research results indicated that unhealthy air pollution quality (> 35 µg/m³) was associated with the prevalence of URI symptoms (Jakarta 18.9% and Semarang 21.6%). Data analysis using ANOVA to see the interaction between 6 big cities and investigate within each city using paired t-test. Students' level of physical activity was related to air pollution, which could negatively impact the respiratory system. Therefore, these findings can be of particular concern to city governments and school teachers not to rule out the dangers of air pollution and the benefits of physical activity in schools.

Abstract

The measurement of physiological characteristics of junior athletes is important to do  as the first step in determining and designing training designs that are appropriate for athletes. The purpose of this study was to measure the physiological characteristics of Indonesian Junior Taekwondo athletes, who were members of student training education centres (PPLP), in West Java, Central Java, and East Java provinces. This qualitative descriptive study conducted the process of collecting data of 8 male Taekwondo athletes and 9 female Taekwondo junior athletes. The results of the data obtained were compared with the data from previous research as a reference in determining the quality standards of Indonesian Taekwondo junior athletes compared with Taekwondo junior athletes from other countries. Related to anthropometric aspects, the results of this study showed that the body weight, height, and BMI of Taekwondo athletes were in the normal category according to WHO standard. Based on the results of anaerobic capacity measurement, Taekwondo athletes got unfavourable results on an average sprint result of 30 meters. However, the results of vertical jumps and VO2max indicated that Indonesian junior Taekwondo athletes were above the normal category determined previously. This research successfully described the physiological characteristics of Indonesian junior Taekwondo athletes in West Java, East Java, and Central Java student training education centres.  The trainers are encouraged to provide a balance concept of aerobic and anaerobic trainings in order to create or foster Taekwondo athletes properly and appropriately.
