Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Water pollution in Lampung mostly caused by domestic waste. The proposed solution in dealing with these problems is the use of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) as a potential bioremediation agent with water hyacinth. The use water hyacinth in AgNP synthesis can help reduce weed populations and domestic waste contaminants in water that causes eutrophication. The AgNP synthesis process begins with the preparation of water hyacinth which is extracted and filtered using Whatman No. 42. The filtrate is then reacted with 2 mM AgNO3 solution and analyzed with FT-IR and SEM. After AgNP were formed, effectiveness was tested on polluted water with AgNP concentration variations of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4. The effectiveness of AgNP was assessed through pH, BOD5 and TSS. The result of the analysis showed that the higher the concentration of AgNP, the higher decrease in BOD5 and TSS value, as well as the improvement in pH values. These test results were supported by ANOVA analysis which showed a significant effect of AgNP concentration on pH, BOD5 and TSS.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) with the main vector Aedes aegypti requires an environmentally friendly control alternative using natural larvacides, such as Japanese papaya leaves (Cnidoscolus aconitifolius) which are rich in phytochemical compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, phenolics, saponins, tannins and steroids with potential as tannins and steroids. This study aims to determine the phytochemical content of Japanese papaya leaf ethyl acetate extract, to determine the potential of Japanese papaya leaf ethyl acetate extract as a larvicide against Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae, and to determine the relationship between the concentration of Japanese papaya leaf ethyl acetate extract and the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae. The study method used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 7 treatments of Japanese papaya leaf ethyl acetate extract 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, 2.5%, 3% and 0% (control) with 4 replications. Observations were made by counting the number of larval deaths at 24 hours. To determine the effect of Japanese papaya leaf ethyl acetate extract on larval mortality, data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. If significant, the data were then followed by Mann-Whitney test. A very strong correlation (Rs = 0.956) was found between concentration and mortality. It can be concluded that ethyl acetate extract of Japanese papaya leaves has the potential to be a natural larvicide for environmentally friendly dengue vector control.

Abstract

This activity was carried out in Banjar Agung Udik Village, Pugung District, Tanggamus Regency. The diversity of flora in Banjar Agung Udik Village creates great potential for the development of nature-based art and creativity. The use of natural materials for art and creativity will not only produce unique and aesthetic works of art, but also have high economic potential. One method that can be used is the ecoprint technique, so a deep understanding of the ecoprint technique, research on appropriate natural materials, and training for the local community are needed. The PKM activity was carried out in 2 stages, the first stage was the delivery of material through lectures and discussions, the second stage was a demonstration/practice of making patterned cloth with the ecoprint technique. The evaluation results showed an increase in the pre-test and post- test scores of 2.75 or 13.75%. The conclusion of this activity is that the knowledge, insight, and skills of the community in Banjar Agung Udik Village have increased, especially regarding the use of the ecoprint technique in making patterned cloth.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a serious global public health problem with a high risk of disease transmission, transmitted by the vector Aedes aegypti. The negative impact of synthetic insecticide use on environmental health and the risk of vector resistance encourage the search for alternative natural larvicides that are safe and environmentally friendly. This study aimed to analyze the efficacy of ethanol extract of Japanese papaya leaves (Cnidoscolus aconitifolius) on the mortality of third instar Aedes aegypti larvae as an effort to control the dengue fever vector. The method used was an experimental study with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of seven concentration treatments (0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, 2.5%, 3%, and control) with four replications. Observations of larval mortality were conducted after 24 hours of exposure. The results of ANOVA analysis showed a highly significant effect (p<0.001) on the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae. Tukey's HSD further test identified the 3% concentration as the most effective treatment with an average mortality of 85% (17,000). Linear regression analysis showed a strong correlation (R2 = 0.937) with the equation y = 24.643x + 1.785 . These findings prove that the ethanol extract of Japanese papaya leaves has great potential as an effective natural larvicide to support community-based environmental dengue vector control programs.
