Abstract

Acidic soil with pH < 6 is one of the main constraints in agricultural development in tropical areas, including in Karanjang Hamlet, Wayame Village. This condition causes low nutrient availability and metal toxicity that inhibits plant growth. This community service aims to increase farmers' knowledge about selecting plant species that are tolerant to acidic soil and land management techniques. The method used is a participatory approach through extension, demonstration, and hands-on practice involving 30 farmers in Karanjang Hamlet. Extension activities were conducted on May 23, 2025, with materials covering characteristics of acidic soil, pH effects on plants, tolerant plant species, and soil amelioration techniques. The results showed a 75% increase in farmers' knowledge about acid-tolerant plants such as cassava, corn, peanuts, and coffee. Practice evaluation showed that 80% of participants were able to identify symptoms of soil acidity and apply liming techniques and organic matter application. This program successfully increased farmers' awareness about the importance of acidic soil management for sustainable agricultural productivity.

Abstract

The Kebun Bibit Rakyat (KBR) is a form of government effort to support forest and land rehabilitation activities through a community empowerment approach. This study aims to determine the level and forms of community participation in the KBR program in Kaitetu Village, Leihitu District, Central Maluku Regency. The method used in this study is a mixed method. Quantitative data will answer questions about the level of participation using a Likert scale, while qualitative data will answer questions about the forms of participation using a descriptive approach. The data collection methods were surveys and interviews. The results of the study show that the level of community participation in the KBR program is in the high category (80%). The criteria for participation are in the aspects of implementation (21%), planning (20%), utilization (20%), evaluation (19%), and motivation (20%). Respondent factors such as age, education level, occupation, income, and number of dependents influence the level of community participation in this program. Community participation can be grouped into five types, namely: participation in ideas, participation in labor, participation in property, participation in skills and expertise, and social participation. The success of the KBR is highly dependent on the active involvement of the community in all aspects of the program.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenotypic diversity of canary plants (Canarium sp.) from three provenances, namely Ambon, Saparua, and Seram, and to observe the relationship between environmental factors and the growth of canary plants in the Canary Collection Garden owned by the Maluku Provincial Forestry Service, located in Hatusua Village, Kairatu District, West Seram Regency. This study used a descriptive method and a completely randomized design (CRD) with ANOVA analysis, multiple regression, and cluster analysis to evaluate phenotypic characters (leaves, stems, fruits/seeds) and environmental factors (light, temperature, humidity, soil pH, fertility, and soil moisture). The results showed that there were significant differences in leaf phenotypic characters (area, length, width), and most of the differences in stem and fruit/seed size were caused by environmental factors. Seram provenance showed greater leaf area and seed weight than Ambon and Saparua. However, the ANOVA results showed that only leaf area showed a significant effect of provenance treatment. Meanwhile, the relationship between vegetative growth (number of branches, stem diameter, and branch-free height) and environmental factors showed varying correlations, depending on the provenance. Cluster analysis grouped the Ambon and Saparua provenances into a phenotypically similar group, while Seram formed a separate cluster.

Abstract

Tropical forest ecosystems in Indonesia are known for their high biodiversity, including fungi that play important ecological roles and have potential as food resources. However, wild edible mushrooms remain underexplored and poorly documented. This study aims to explore and identify edible mushroom species found in Hunitetu Village, Inamosol District, West Seram Regency, and to classify them based on their morphological characteristics and growth habitats. The method used was a descriptive exploratory approach through surveys and direct observations in various potential locations, including forests, gardens, agricultural lands, and areas surrounding settlements. Each mushroom sample found was documented and identified based on macroscopic morphological characteristics, including the shape and color of the cap (pileus), stalk (stipe), surface texture, and growth substrate. The results showed that all collected mushroom samples were successfully identified in detail according to their morphological characteristics. Based on the observations, two species were identified as edible mushrooms, while the remaining species were categorized as non-edible. Overall, these findings provide preliminary information on the diversity of edible mushrooms in the study area and highlight their potential for sustainable utilization as non-timber forest products.

Abstract

Vegetasi hutan pantai menunjukkan variasi dominasi: Desa Kairatu didominasi Casuarina equisetifolia (370 individu), Desa Waipirit didominasi Alstonia scholaris (73 individu), dan Desa Hatusua didominasi Intsia bijuga (1.024 individu).
