Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are a collection of conditions that affect musculoskeletal system at the extreme points of the body in the upper and lower extremities. Some of the main factors that trigger these complaints are overstretching the muscles, repetitive movements, and unnatural work attitudes. Lifting workers generally work using their bodies as a means of transportation. In addition, this work requires a large amount of energy, so workers are often more concerned with getting the job done quickly without considering work attitudes while working. The primary objective of this research is to examine how the work ethics of lift workers at Lely Minimarket are linked to the occurrence of musculoskeletal complaints. The research employed a cross-sectional observational analytic method. This study utilized a total sampling technique. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariate with the SPSS 25 version. According to the results that highest proportion of lift workers were male, in the early adult age category, and worked 7-12 hours per day. Most of the workers (72.5%) have a normal body mass index and 64% have a working period of <5 years. Based on the result, the most respondents (55%) had a very high risk work attitude in the form of a bent back, upper arms raised and away from the body, and neck flexion-extension. MSDs complaints experienced by the majority of respondents were in the high category, especially in the area of the waist (92.5%), back (87.5%) and upper arms (85%). The Spearman Correlation test analysis yielded results that indicated a significant correlation between work attitude and musculoskeletal complaints (r = 0.600, p <0.05) in lift workers supplying Lely Denpasar Minimarket. Based on the results acquired, it is important to improve the work attitude of workers as soon as possible so that there is a decrease in the level of MSD complaints, in the form of providing lifting aids aimed at business owners.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are disorders related to various components in the human body, including muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, nervous system, bone structure, and blood vessels, which are often found in construction workers with poor posture while working. MSDs affect almost 1.71 billion people worldwide. Construction workers are one of the professions contributing to the high number of MSDs incidents. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of work posture and MSDs in construction workers at PT Q6. We employed a descriptive, cross-sectional method, utilizing primary data from the July 2024 research at PT Q6. We conducted this study on 70 samples. The results of the study were dominated by work postures with minimal risk (50%), MSDs were dominated by high-risk complaints (70%), the age of workers was dominated by <35 years (51.4%), all workers were male (100%), the dominant work duration was ? 8 hours (80%), MSDs in the age category <35 years were dominated by high risk (55.1%), MSDs in the work duration category <8 hours were dominated by both moderate (95.2%) and high (73.5%) risk, and MSDs in men were dominated by moderate (100%) and high (100%) risk categories. The conclusion of the study shows that the working posture of construction workers at PT Q6 generally has minimal risk, while MSDs occur most often at high risk. Further research suggestions include excluding individuals over 55 years of age and controlling for confounding factors.

Abstract

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder that causes a reduction or blockage of airflow despite efforts to breathe. Body Mass Index (BMI) is one of the indicators used to determine an individual's weight status, whether they are underweight, have an ideal weight, or are overweight (obese). This study aims to determine the relationship between BMI and the risk of OSA among students at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Warmadewa University. This is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The sample was obtained using stratified random sampling with a total of 97 samples. Data collection was done through questionnaires filled out by the respondents to obtain primary data. The independent variable in this study is Body Mass Index (BMI), while the dependent variable is the risk of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis. The correlation between BMI and OSA risk was measured using the Spearman test and crosstab. The results showed that the majority of respondents were male and 19 years old (35.1%), with a normal BMI status (58.8%). A total of 35.1% were at risk of developing OSA based on the Berlin questionnaire, and 64.9% were at risk of OSA based on the ESS questionnaire. The Berlin questionnaire showed a significant and very strong positive correlation between BMI and students at risk of OSA (p = 0.001; r = 0.899). Meanwhile, the ESS questionnaire showed a significant and moderate positive correlation between BMI and OSA risk (p = 0.001; r = 0.442).
