Abstract

The village of Linggoasri, located in Pekalongan Regency, is a village that features notable religious pluralism because its community consists of 13.02% Hindu, 86.83% Muslim, and 0.14% Buddhist. Although most of the population is Muslim, religious diversity does not hinder the recognition of the Ogoh-Ogoh tradition. Initially rooted in Hinduism, Ogoh-Ogoh has become a symbol of unity and diversity for all community members. The active participation of the community in the Ogoh-Ogoh celebration underscores the importance of this tradition as a cultural heritage recognized as belonging to all the people of Linggoasri Village. The research aims to explain the role of the Ogoh-Ogoh performance in fostering religious harmony and its impact on social integration in Linggoasri Village. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through participatory observation, interviews, and document studies. The research results show that the Ogoh-Ogoh parade plays a role in uniting the diverse religious community of Linggoasri. This event becomes a moment where all community members come together without concerning themselves with religious differences. The atmosphere of togetherness creates a point of integration that can open opportunities for interfaith dialogue and build mutual understanding among villagers, as well as being an effective medium for tolerance that teaches the values of appreciating diversity. From Bourdieu's habitus perspective, the Ogoh-Ogoh performance facilitates the formation of collective mindsets and behaviors. The active involvement of the Linggoasri community can deepen understanding of Hindu cultural values and appreciate religious diversity, thus forming an inclusive and equal society where respecting religious differences becomes a substantial value.

Abstract

Abstract

In Linggoasri Village, many families consist of members who practice various religious beliefs. This diversity fosters an atmosphere of tolerance, where individuals respect and embrace each other's differences. This study aims to understand how multi-religious families build social resilience to create harmonious lives and navigate the complexities of a pluralistic society. A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing data collection methods such as field observations, in-depth interviews with multi-religious families, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the social resilience of families in Linggoasri is rooted in key principles: mutual respect, religious freedom, openness to interfaith dialogue, and compassion. These principles are actively practiced in daily interactions, serving as the foundation for fostering harmony. The dynamics of everyday life in such families require a conscious effort to balance the practice of personal beliefs with the need to nurture a sense of togetherness. Pierre Bourdieu's concept of habitus provides a useful framework for understanding these families. Their habitus has evolved within a deeply rooted pluralistic environment, shaping an inclusive society that values mutual respect for religious differences.

Abstract

The year 2024 is considered a significant moment in Indonesia's democratic process, marked by the Presidential Election on February 14, 2024. One of the key factors in garnering support is social capital. The participation of young people has become a focal point in this phenomenon, highlighted by the presence of young political volunteers known as Orang Muda Ganjar (OMG). The purpose of this research is to explain the participation of OMG volunteers in Central Java in the 2024 Presidential Election through the lens of social capital. The research method used in this study is a qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. This study fills the gap in previous research, which has predominantly focused on the role of formal political parties while paying less attention to the contributions of volunteer groups as non-formal actors in politics. Based on the data, the findings show that friendships in academic environments are one of the reasons volunteers join and employ soft campaign strategies to reach out to young people by leveraging social capital. The most significant form of social capital contributing to garnering support is social networking, which utilizes existing relationships within student organizations. These social networks act as social capital in mobilizing support, which includes facilitating communication and coordination, building trust and solidarity, expanding outreach, and optimizing available resources. The researcher recommends further studies to explore the dynamics of social capital in various political contexts outside Central Java with different characteristics, as this could serve as a foundation for subsequent comparative studies.

One of the marriage traditions still being preserved today is the tradition of Nglarung Ayam by the people of Kalijambe Village. Nglarung is a tradition in Javanese society to throw offerings in the sea or river. The aims of this research are as follows: 1) to find out the implementation of the Nglarung Ayam tradition at weddings in the Kalijambe Village community, 2) to analyze the meaning behind the Nglarung Ayam tradition carried out by the Kalijambe Village community. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative research method with data collection techniques in the form of observation and interviews. The research results show that the tradition of Nglarung Ayam is carried out when residents of Kalijambe Village get married and get a partner from outside the village who are separated by a river and cross a bridge. Nglarung Ayam is done by releasing free-range chickens on the bridge that the bridal party crosses to their partner's house. Nglarung Ayam has two meanings. The incidental meaning applies during the journey to the in-law's house as a reinforcement to protect the bridal party from danger on the way to the couple's house. The second is the meaning of continuity, namely, the hope of ensuring future harmony and happiness for the bridal couple.
