Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a serious public health problem in Indonesia. Although the government has implemented various policy strategies and expanded access to healthcare services, TB case numbers have not shown a significant decline. This condition highlights the importance of community participation through a community-based approach. This study aims to analyze the role of social capital in community-based TB elimination efforts conducted by Mentari Sehat Indonesia (MSI) in Semarang City. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with MSI administrators, cadres, and beneficiary patients, as well as through participatory field observations. The analysis applies Robert D. Putnam’s theory of social capital, which emphasizes three main dimensions: social networks, trust, and social norms. The findings reveal that MSI reproduces and strengthens social capital that has been built since its earlier affiliation with the ‘Aisyiyah organization. Social networks have been expanded through partnerships with donor agencies, local governments, and philanthropic institutions such as the Bakrie Center Foundation. Trust serves as a key element connecting MSI with its cadres and linking cadres with patients through empathetic mentoring, open communication, and consistent support during the treatment process. Meanwhile, social norms such as reciprocity, mutual assistance, pluralism, and kinship strengthen the program’s sustainability. This social capital significantly contributes to the effectiveness and continuity of the community-based TB elimination program.

Abstract

Village empowerment is a strategic effort as the current development paradigm emphasizes that development begins in villages. The existence of village funds and greater autonomy encourages villages to develop themselves through various creative strategies, one of which is the village tourism concept. Near the Guci hot spring tourist area in Tegal Regency, there is the Cempaka Village Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), which develops traditional culinary tourism through Pasar Slumpring. An initial survey identified several issues that need to be addressed, namely the limited variety of traditional culinary attractions offered, stagnant visitor numbers, and the claim of a traditional-based tourism concept that has not yet significantly contributed to the preservation of local culture. As a solution to these problems, this partnership community service program aims to provide advocacy and capacity strengthening for the Cempaka Village Pokdarwis to innovate in order to increase tourist visits while contributing to the preservation of local cultural heritage through the diversification of tourism attractions based on folk games. The community service activities were carried out using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach and an Educational Conservation Training Program on Traditional Games as Experience-Based Tourism Attractions, integrating several activities: (1) Folk Games Clinic; (2) Arrangement of Folk Games Zones; and (3) Trial implementation of folk games tourism attractions with visitors. The results of community service activities show that the approach to developing a tourist village that combines cultural-based tourism with digital marketing strategies has significant potential in increasing the attractiveness, differentiation, and sustainability of Slumpring Market as a local culture-based tourist destination.

Abstract

This community service program was initiated in response to the stagnation of tourist visits to Pasar Slumpring and the limited digital competence of the local tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis) in utilizing social media as a promotional tool. The program aims to strengthen the community’s digital economy through the development of food  vlogging content as a medium for promoting traditional culinary tourism. The implementation employed a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach, involving community members in planning, training, content production, and evaluation. The program included a social media workshop, food vlogging training, and digital promotion assistance. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in participants’ digital literacy, with the average score increasing from 44.25 (pre-test) to 80.75 (post-test), indicating an 82.4% enhancement. The food vlogging content produced successfully reached a wide audience, achieving 31,000 views on Instagram and 386,000 views on TikTok. The impact is further reflected in the rise in tourist visits, from 1,217 visitors in August to 1,826 in September (an increase of 50.04%), and continued to grow to 58.25% by November. This program has proven effective in enhancing the digital capacity of Pokdarwis and strengthening digital economy–based promotional strategies. Therefore, the initiative contributes to the development of traditional culinary tourism and supports the achievement of SDGs 8, 9, and 11 on decent work, industrial innovation, and sustainable communities.

Abstract

Pemilihan Umum Raya (Pemira) serves as a campus democratic arena that reflects the dynamics of student politics, particularly in the practice of candidate campaign strategies. One of the important factors influencing this process is social capital, which includes social networks, collective norms, and trust. This study aims to analyze the role of social capital in student campaign strategies during the 2024 UNNES Pemira and to explain how social capital is utilized by candidates to gain political support. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques consisting of semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation. The research informants include Pemira candidates, campaign teams, observers of the election process, and student voters from various faculties. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that candidates with broader social networks, strong organizational backgrounds, and higher levels of trust among students and supporter groups tend to have advantages in mobilizing political support. Social capital is utilized through cross-faculty personal relations, informal support from extra-campus organizations, and the use of leadership track records to build voter trust. In contrast, candidates with limited social capital face greater challenges in expanding their voter base and optimizing campaign activities. This study provides empirical contributions to the study of campus political sociology and strengthens the understanding of the role of social capital in student democratic practices.

Abstract

Kepyur is a local term used by the people of Kendal Regency to refer to the practice of money politics in elections. Kepyur practices have become a cultural norm in Kendal, occurring in village head elections, parliamentary elections, and regional head elections. This study aims to explain the factors behind the prevalence of kepyur practices and analyze their relationship with voters’ rational choices. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method using a case study approach, focusing on the 2020 regional election in Kalibareng Village. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing based on rational choice theory. The results indicate that money politics in the form of kepyur is not considered reprehensible by the community. For campaign teams, distributing kepyur to voters is viewed as a rational strategy to secure electoral victory for their candidates. Similarly, for community members, kepyur is perceived as a rational consequence, as voting for a candidate entails losing time that could otherwise be spent working. Unlike conventional money politics, which is generally associated with coercive vote buying, political bribery, or explicit electoral exchange, kepyur is socially legitimized and embedded in everyday economic practices. It is not understood as an illegal transaction but rather as informal compensation for lost livelihoods on election day. Kepyur has shifted political rational choice toward economic rationality, as voting rights can be exchanged for financial benefits that substitute for lost income on election day.

The research results show that the tradition of Nglarung Ayam is carried out when residents of Kalijambe Village get married and get a partner from outside the village who are separated by a river and cross a bridge. Nglarung Ayam is done by releasing free-range chickens on the bridge that the bridal party crosses to their partner's house. Nglarung Ayam has two meanings. The incidental meaning applies during the journey to the in-law's house as a reinforcement to protect the bridal party from danger on the way to the couple's house. The second is the meaning of continuity, namely, the hope of ensuring future harmony and happiness for the bridal couple.
