Abstract

If the strawberry harvest is insufficient, market demand cannot be met. However, if the harvest is excessive, the strawberries are only used as animal feed or left to rot and become fertilizer. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of different compositions of liquid organic fertilizer on the growth of strawberry plants (Fragaria sp.). The research was conducted over 5 months from January to May 2024. The research method used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). This study consisted of 4 (four) treatments and 3 (three) replications. The liquid organic fertilizer was made using organic materials, namely 0.5 kg of cow rumen, 0.2 l of molasses, 1 l of rice washing water, 0.5 l of rabbit urine, 0.5 kg of banana peels, 1 l of coconut water, and 0.5 kg of moringa leaves. The research treatments were as follows: P0 (liquid organic fertilizer at a concentration of 0 ml/1000 ml water), P1 (liquid organic fertilizer at a concentration of 100 ml/1000 ml), P2 (liquid organic fertilizer at a concentration of 200 ml/1000 ml), and P3 (liquid organic fertilizer at a concentration of 300 ml/1000 ml). Fertilization was done once a week for 1 month. The plant growth variables observed were plant height, number of leaves, number of stolon runners, and fruit weight. Based on the research results, the plant height variable for P2 resulted in the highest average plant height of 19.1 cm and was significantly different from the P0 and P3 treatments, but not significantly different from the P1 concentration. The leaf variable for the P2 liquid organic fertilizer treatment resulted in the highest average number of leaves at 15.7 leaves, followed by P1 and P3, with no significant difference. For the stolon runner variable, P2 produced the highest number of stolon runners at 1.0 stem, with no significant difference from the P0, P1, and P3 concentrations. The fruit weight variable for P2 produced the highest fruit production at 3.7 grams, with no significant difference from the P0, P1, and P3 concentrations.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of hatching egg weight on the hatching power and DOD (Day Old Duck) weight of Hybrid Ducks and to determine the hatching egg weight that has the best hatching power and also the most optimal DOD weight. The potential need for duck meat that still cannot act as a mainstay animal food source is caused by the relatively low productivity in Indonesia. Hybrid ducks are ducks that are a cross between Peking and Khaki Campbell ducks. The DOD weight produced determines the quality of the hybrid ducklings to be cultivated. This research was conducted at CV. Anugerah Mulia Farm, Ngledok Hamlet, Mojokrapak Village, Tembelang District, Jombang Regency from June to November 2024. The object of this study used 90 Hybrid Duck hatching eggs. This study used the RAL (Complete Randomized Design) method with 3 treatments and 6 replications. Each treatment used 5 hatching eggs. The parameters taken in this study were the hatching power and DOD weight of Hybrid Ducks. The results of the data obtained were analyzed using the IBM SPSS version 26 application with Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and continued with the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results obtained from this study showed that egg weight had a significant effect (P <0.05) on the hatchability of Hybrid Ducks by 90% (P1) and the highest DOD weight at P1 was 50.48 grams.

Abstract

The availability of animal feed is one of the main factors that must be considered by farmers to achieve business success. Service activities aim to assist farmers in understanding the use of agricultural waste as a source of feed as a cost efficiency solution. The activity method uses a participatory approach, the service team as a facilitator or study partner and farmers as active subjects in the activity. The activity was carried out in the Sri Lestari farmer/livestock group, Semen Village, Semen District, Kediri Regency. The results obtained in this activity are that cattle breeders do not understand the nutritional content of feed from agricultural waste, but most of the farmers have used agricultural waste for animal feed. In conclusion, the understanding of farmers regarding the nutrients contained in plant waste needs to be continuously improved, and further activities are needed, especially techniques for improving animal feed nutrition.

Abstract

The availability of quality feed for ruminant livestock remains a major challenge for smallholder farmers, especially during the dry season when forage resources become limited. One practical solution is the utilization of Urea Molasses Block (UMB) as a low-cost supplementary feed that is easy to produce and capable of improving feed intake and digestibility. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and technical skills of members of the “Satria Kelud Perkasa” Livestock Group in Gadungan Village, Wates District, Kediri Regency through training on the production of UMB using locally available ingredients. The training was conducted using lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Program effectiveness was evaluated through pre-test and post-test assessments to measure participants’ knowledge improvement. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding of the functions, composition, and production techniques of UMB. Participants successfully completed all stages of production—including weighing ingredients, mixing, molding, and drying—and produced UMB blocks with good physical quality that were readily accepted by livestock. The activity also strengthened the group’s independence in providing supplementary feed, thereby improving feed efficiency and the potential productivity of their ruminants. This program demonstrates that a participatory approach combined with simple technology transfer is highly effective in improving farmers’ skills and encouraging the adoption of innovations. It is expected that the livestock group will continue producing UMB independently and apply it sustainably in their ruminant feed management.
