Abstract

ARFF services are vital for aviation safety, but traditional trainers struggle with fuel efficiency and environmental regulations. This study aims to develop a Fuel Distribution Controller for ARFF trainers to enhance fuel efficiency and compliance. The goal is to improve training while reducing operational costs. Borg and Gall's Research and Development (R&D) model is the foundational framework in this study. This R&D model typically comprises ten essential steps, but for this research, these steps are streamlined into three central stages: preliminary study, research development, and Validation. These stages collectively guide a methodical and structured research process, commencing with comprehensive preliminary investigations, progressing to developing a research solution, and concluding with a validation phase to ascertain the innovation's effectiveness. Professional insights from Politeknik Penerbangan Palembang inform the development of the Fuel Distribution Controller for the ARFF Trainer, aiming to improve practical aircraft firefighting training. This innovation enhances fuel efficiency, reduces environmental impact, and minimizes operational costs. The revamped system simplifies operations and provides a cost-effective, user-friendly learning experience. This achievement, verified by experts and users, holds significant promise for aircraft firefighting training and education

Abstract

This research was conducted as a first step in improving the quality of the Aviation Fire and Rescue Study Program of Palembang Aviation Polytechnic in evaluating itself to obtain information and recommendations for descriptions of each assessment criteria that need to be considered to determine the feasibility of the Study Program based on the criteria that refer to the National Higher Education Standards. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, in which the researcher explores the criteria of the Aviation Fire and Rescue Study Program of the Palembang Aviation Polytechnic then looks at suggestions and recommendations to see whether these conditions or criteria have met the Study Program Accreditation based on criteria that refer to the National Standard. Higher education. The results showed that the Aviation Fire and Rescue Study Program of Palembang Aviation Polytechnic got a score of 246.72. The description of the assessment based on the data and information of the Aviation Fire and Rescue Study Program of Palembang Aviation Polytechnic reaches the Good criteria, it needs more effort that must be improved and get attention to be able to go to the Very Good criteria and towards Excellence.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat bertujuan memberikan pemahaman peserta terkait sistem proteksi kebakaran, terutama instalasi Sistem Alarm dan Deteksi Kebakaran, untuk meningkatkan kesadaran dan mengurangi risiko kebakaran di sekitarnya. Program ini dilaksanakan di Pondok Pesantren Aulia Cendikia Palembang, lembaga pendidikan yang memiliki peran penting dalam membimbing generasi muda di wilayah tersebut. Program ini terdiri dari serangkaian sesi bimbingan teknis, termasuk pemaparan teori, demonstrasi praktik, dan sesi tanya jawab. Peserta terdiri dari siswa dan guru pendamping dari Pondok Pesantren Aulia Cendikia Palembang. Tim pelaksana terdiri dari Dosen, Instruktur, dan Taruna dari Program Studi Penyelamatan dan Pemadam Kebakaran program Diploma Tiga Politeknik Penerbangan Palembang. Proses pelaksanaan program mencakup pengaturan keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja (K3), sesi briefing, serta pemantauan ketat terhadap aktivitas peserta. Evaluasi kepuasan peserta dilakukan untuk mengukur respon positif terhadap program, dengan 100% peserta menyatakan persetujuan yang kuat. Namun, beberapa peserta mengusulkan perpanjangan durasi program dan peningkatan frekuensinya untuk mencakup kompetensi lain yang terkait. Saran-saran ini menjadi dasar untuk meningkatkan pelaksanaan program di masa mendatang. Program ini telah memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam pencegahan kebakaran, memperkaya pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat, dan berhasil menyediakan pelatihan yang efektif untuk mengurangi risiko kebakaran, menghasilkan dampak positif yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Penanganan terhadap bahaya kebakaran di Indonesia masih memiliki berbagai kendala yang mengakibatkan kejadian kebakaran sering berakibat fatal dan berulang. Adanya peningkatan jumlah kejadian kebakaran di beberapa wilayah di Indonesia disebabkan oleh beberapa hal, yaitu rendahnya pemahaman dan kesadaran masyarakat akan bahaya kebakaran. Untuk meminimalisasir kejadian kebakaran diperlukan kesiapsiagaan penghuni bangunan dalam mengantisipasi kebakaran. Tujuan dilaksanakan penyuluhan ini adalah setiap peserta diharapkan memiliki pengetahuan dasar terkait penanganan kebakaran di area sekitar asrama serta guna meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat pada umumnya terkait pencegahan dan perlindungan bahaya kebakaran. kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada Pondok Pesantren Aulia Cendekia di Palembang dalam beberapa tahapan, yaitu tahap persiapan, tahap pelaksanaan, tahap penyuluhan dan aksi lapangan serta tahap evaluasi. Aspek kepuasan terhadap materi pelajaran mendapat nilai rata-rata 4,33 dan kemudian pada aspek kepuasan terhadap pelayanan panita penyelenggara mendapat nilai rata-rata 4,39. Adapun hasil evaluasi pembelajaran yang dilakukan terhadap peserta penyuluhan mendapat nilai rata-rata sebesar 86,13 (kualifikasi: baik sekali) dapat menjadi indikator bahwa tujuan kegiatan telah tercapai.

Abstract

Implementasi first aid pada masyarakat transportasi di lingkungan sekitar Politeknik Penerbangan Palembang perlu ditingkatkan dalam rangka mengurangi tingkat resiko lanjutan luka bakar yang mungkin dapat ditimbulkan dari aktivitas di sekitar Politeknik Penerbanagn Palembang. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah (1) untuk membangun kesadaran masyarakat resiko yang mungkin akan muncul di sekitar kita, (2) meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat dalam pertolongan pertama pada luka bakar, dan (3) meminimalisir dampak bahaya lanjutan dari luka bakar. Mitra kerjasama kegiatan ini adalah masyarakat di lingkungan sekitar Politeknik Penerbangan Palembang. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan metode partisipatif yang melibatkan partisipasi aktif anggota masyarakat dalam proses pengambilan keputusan dan pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian agar memperkuat keterlibatan masyarakat dalam menyelesaikan masalah dan meningkatkan keberlanjutan hasil pengabdian Tahapan pelaksanaan pengabdian kepada masyarakat terdiri dari tiga tahap yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi. Pada tahap persiapan, tim pengabdian melakukan observasi awal kebutuhan peserta kegiatan. Tahap pelaksanaan terdiri dari kegiatan pelatihan yang terdiri dari teori dan praktek langsung pertolongan pertama luka bakar. Tahap evaluasi dilakukan untuk mengukur tingkat keberhasilan suatu kegiatan yang telah dilakukan. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa seluruh peserta telah memiliki pemahaman dan kemampuan pertolongan pertama pada luka bakar.

Abstract

Abstract: This article aims to review the literature on the effect of the suitability level of fire alarm installations, fire detectors, and portable fire extinguishers on fire protection systems in buildings. Previous research is needed to support or oppose the new hypothesis. From the research conducted, it was found that the suitability level of fire protection equipment installation is very important to increase the effectiveness of the fire protection system. Appropriate fire alarms and fire detectors, as well as suitable portable fire extinguishers, are required to detect fires as quickly as possible and provide a rapid and appropriate response to address the fire. In addition, proper maintenance of fire protection equipment is also required to ensure optimal system performance. The results of this article show that: 1) The suitability level of the fire alarm installation affects the fire protection system; 2) The suitability level of the fire detector installation affects the fire protection system; and 3) The suitability level of portable fire extinguisher installation affects the fire protection system. Increasing the suitability of the installation of fire protection equipment in buildings, can increase the effectiveness of the fire protection system and minimize the risk of fire.

Abstract

Qurban is not only a religious ritual with spiritual significance but also an instrument of Islamic philanthropy that strengthens social solidarity and community welfare. At the same time, qurban activities involve various operational hazards that require the implementation of a safety culture. This community service program aimed to implement the Safe Qurban model by integrating collective philanthropy and aviation safety culture into the organization of Qurban 1447 H at Baitul Ilmi Mosque, Palembang Aviation Polytechnic. The program was carried out through several stages, including fundraising through the Shodaqoh Qurban Program, hazard identification, safety planning, qurban implementation, benefit distribution, and program evaluation. The results demonstrated that collective philanthropy successfully broadened community participation in qurban activities through collaborative contributions while fostering social solidarity, empathy, and mutual assistance. The application of safety culture was reflected in hazard identification, risk control, safety communication, clear task allocation, and emergency preparedness throughout the implementation process. The integration of these two approaches generated broader social benefits while simultaneously enhancing safety awareness among all participants. The program resulted in the development of the Safe Qurban model as an innovative community service approach that combines the values of Islamic philanthropy with safety culture practices adapted from the aviation sector. This model has the potential to be replicated in other social and community-based activities involving multiple stakeholders and operational risks. Abstract

Aviation Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) personnel play a crucial role in supporting aviation safety by implementing rescue and emergency response measures at airports. Continuous competency development of ACR personnel is essential to ensure readiness to address developments in aviation technology, the complexity of airport operations, and the demands of safety regulations. This community service activity took the form of ACR Senior Training, organized by the Palembang Aviation Polytechnic for 19 ACR personnel from 18 Airport Operational Units (UPBU). The training used a Competency-Based Training (CBT) approach, consisting of 29 learning materials, totalling 102 hours of theory and 98 hours of practical training. Evaluation was conducted through pre-tests, post-tests, practical assessments, and participant satisfaction surveys. The results showed an increase in participant competency, as evidenced by an average score of 85 in the pre-test to 96 in the post-test, a 12.94% increase. Furthermore, participant satisfaction with the training reached 95%. These results demonstrate that the training improved participants' knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes in carrying out PKP-PK operational tasks. This activity positively contributed to strengthening the competence of airport human resources and supported increased preparedness in handling emergencies to achieve sustainable aviation safety

Abstract

Effective Airport Emergency Plan (ERP) implementation requires personnel to translate documented procedures into appropriate decisions and coordinated actions during dynamic emergencies. However, empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of scenario-based simulation for developing airport ERP competencies remains limited. This study examines the effectiveness of ESCAPE (Electronic Scenario-based Airport Emergency Exercise) as a scenario-based simulation approach for supporting ERP competency development. An R&D approach using the ADDIE model was employed. ESCAPE was validated by two subject-matter experts and two media experts selected through purposive sampling. Implementation involved 20 airport personnel selected through total sampling; no random assignment or control group was used. Product validity was assessed using expert questionnaires, while learning outcomes were evaluated using a one-group pre-test–post-test design. Data were analysed using validity percentages, Cronbach’s alpha, ICC, N-Gain, and a paired-samples t-test. Material and media validation achieved 89.50% and 87.78%, respectively, with good internal consistency and inter-rater agreement. Mean ERP competency scores increased from 70.75 to 88.13, yielding an N-Gain of 0.59 (medium category). The improvement was statistically significant, t (19) = 15.13, p < 0.001, with a 95% confidence interval of 14.97–19.78 and a very large effect size (Cohen’s d = 3.38). These findings indicate that scenario-based simulation through ESCAPE is associated with substantial improvement in ERP competency. Its main contribution is integrating ERP procedures with contextualized emergency scenarios, decision-making, resource positioning, and performance feedback, thereby providing a structured environment for connecting procedural knowledge with emergency-response application. Further controlled comparative studies are required to determine whether ESCAPE provides advantages over conventional ERP training approaches.

Abstract

Aviation accidents occurring in water environments present high levels of complexity and require specialized rescue capabilities. This study aims to analyze the impact of basic water rescue competency requirements on victim rescue techniques and the use of water safety equipment. A quantitative research design employing an explanatory survey method was used. The study utilized a causal relationship model involving one independent variable—Basic Water Rescue Competency Needs (X)—and two dependent variables: Victim Rescue Techniques (Y₁) and the Use of Water Safety Equipment (Y₂). The research was conducted at Airport Authority Units (UPBU) located within an operational radius of ±8 km from water bodies. Hypothesis testing results demonstrate that the need for basic water rescue competencies significantly influences victim rescue techniques (t = 13.446; Sig. = 0.000) and the use of water safety equipment (t = 16.785; Sig. = 0.000). These findings indicate that basic water rescue competence is statistically associated with the ability to rescue victims and the proper use of safety equipment; consequently, the results can serve as a basis for developing basic water rescue training to support preparedness and safety in water-based rescue operations.
