Abstract

Fine motor development is an essential aspect of early childhood development, as it is closely related to the coordination of small muscles, hand–eye coordination, and children's readiness for future learning. One of the factors influencing fine motor development is maternal parenting practices. This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal parenting and fine motor development among children aged 3–4 years at UPTD Puskesmas Rawat Inap Tepeleo, North Patani District, Central Halmahera Regency. This quantitative analytical study employed a cross-sectional design. A total of 30 respondents were selected using the total sampling technique. Parenting data were collected using a structured questionnaire, while children's fine motor development was assessed using an observational checklist. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that 70.0% of mothers applied good parenting, 13.3% applied moderate parenting, and 16.7% applied poor parenting. Most children demonstrated Age-Appropriate Development (46.7%), followed by Very Well Developed (30.0%) and Beginning to Develop (23.3%). Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between maternal parenting and fine motor development among children aged 3–4 years (p = 0.001). These findings suggest that improving parental education on appropriate parenting practices and early developmental stimulation may contribute to optimal fine motor development in young children.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common reproductive health problems experienced by adolescent girls and can interfere with daily activities and learning processes. Adequate knowledge regarding dysmenorrhea is believed to influence adolescents' ability to manage menstrual pain appropriately. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge of adolescent girls about dysmenorrhea and dysmenorrhea management among tenth-grade female students at SMKN 1 Paku, Central Kalimantan. This study employed a quantitative analytic observational design using a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all tenth-grade female students who had experienced menstruation. A total sampling technique was used, resulting in 66 respondents. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses. The bivariate analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of 95% (α=0.05). The results showed that most respondents had good knowledge regarding dysmenorrhea (68.2%) and practiced appropriate dysmenorrhea management (63.6%). The Chi-Square test indicated a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and dysmenorrhea management (p-value=0.000). The study concludes that better knowledge is associated with more appropriate dysmenorrhea management among adolescent girls. Therefore, reproductive health education should be strengthened to improve adolescents' understanding and management of menstrual pain.
