Abstract

Hyperbaric disease is one of the health problems experienced by traditional diving fishermen in their work environment caused by a high-pressure environment that is more than one atmosphere. This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of hyperbaric disease in traditional diving fishermen in Bajoe Village. This type of research is an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The sampling technique uses simple random sampling of 66 people. Data analysis using chi square test and odds ratio. The results showed that of the 4 independent variables studied, there were 3 associated with the incidence of hyperbaric disease, namely depth (p = 0.001) (OR = 5.417; CI 95%= 1.862 – 15.7), tenure (p=0.001) (OR= 8.750; CI 95%= 2.265 – 35.362) and PPE usage (0.005) (OR= 0.233; CI 95%= 0.081 – 0.668), 1 unrelated variable i.e. dive duration (p= 0.605) (OR= 1.326; CI 95%= 0.454 – 3.877).The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between depth, length of work, use of PPE and there is no relationship between diving duration and the incidence of hyperbaric disease. So, it is hoped that the Puskesmas and local fishermen divers can work together to hold socialization related to hyperbaric disease factors. Abstract

Dug well water is one of the primary sources of clean water for the community but is often vulnerable to bacteriological contamination, such as MPN Coliform. This contamination can cause various diseases, including diarrhea, particularly if the well is too close to contamination sources, the physical structure of the well does not meet standards, or the well owner's hygiene behavior is poor. This study aims to analyze the risk factors associated with the presence of MPN Coliform in dug well water in Tamangapa Village, Makassar City. The research used a cross-sectional design with purposive sampling of 12 dug wells, analyzed using Fisher's exact test. The results showed a significant relationship between the distance from contamination sources (SPAL, livestock pens, and septic tanks) and the presence of MPN Coliform in dug well water, with a p-value of 0.028 < 0.05 (odds ratio = 3.5). There was no relationship between the behavior of well owners (storage of well buckets, bathing, and washing) or the structure of dug wells (well walls and floors) and the presence of MPN Coliform, with p-values > 0.05. This study concludes that the distance of wells from contamination sources is the primary risk factor in determining the bacteriological quality of dug well water. Therefore, efforts are needed to maintain a safe distance between wells and contamination sources to reduce the risk of contamination. It is recommended that the community increase awareness of well sanitation and hygienic behavior, while the government strengthens the monitoring of well water quality.  Keywords: Water; MPN Coliform; Dug Wells

Abstract

Abstract

Blacksmithing is part of the informal sector that continues to thrive amidst modern industrial development, especially in culturally rich regions such as Tikala District, North Toraja Regency. This sector not only supports the local economy but also represents a vital aspect of cultural identity. However, blacksmithing requires intense physical effort, which may lead to physical fatigue among workers. The aim of this study was to identify the factors associated with physical fatigue among blacksmith workers in Tikala District. This research employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 78 respondents were selected using random sampling from 12 blacksmithing sites. Data were collected through interviews using a questionnaire, as well as direct measurements of workplace temperature, age, work duration, and pre-existing medical conditions. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between independent variables and physical fatigue. Univariate analysis showed that 21 respondents (26.9%) experienced physical fatigue. The Chi-Square test results indicated a significant relationship between physical fatigue and environmental temperature (p=0.007), age (p=0.009), work duration (p=0.039), and pre-existing medical conditions (p=0.004). These factors contributed to the increased risk of physical fatigue among blacksmith workers. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between temperature, age, work duration, and pre-existing medical conditions and the occurrence of physical fatigue among blacksmith workers in Tikala District, North Toraja Regency. Therefore, it is recommended for future researchers to explore other variables such as workload, nutritional status, rest duration, or ergonomic factors to gain a more comprehensive understanding of physical fatigue. Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis that attacks the lungs and bronchi. This disease is transmitted through the air. This study aimed to determine the risk factors associated with the incidence of pulmonary TB in the working area of Caile Community Health Center, Bulukumba Regency. This research used an analytical observational design with a case-control approach. The sampling technique was total sampling, with a total of 96 respondents consisting of 48 cases and 48 controls. Data were collected in March 2025. The majority of respondents were aged  50–59 years, and most were male. Data collection techniques included interviews and observations. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate (chi-square test), and multivariate (logistic regression) analyses.. The results showed a significant relationship between occupancy density (p = 0.001), ventilation area (p = 0.001), humidity (p = 0.002), and contact history (p = 0.001) with the incidence of pulmonary TB. Although smoking status showed no significant association in the bivariate analysis (p = 0.066), it became statistically significant in the multivariate model after controlling for confounding variables. Multivariate analysis also showed that the most dominant risk factor was contact history, with an OR value of 28.569, indicating that individuals with a history of contact with pulmonary TB patients were 28.5 times more likely to develop the disease..The study concludes that of the five variables analyzed, four were identified as risk factors for pulmonary TB incidence, with contact history being the most dominant. Efforts to prevent and control pulmonary TB should focus on improving housing conditions, enhancing ventilation quality, maintaining appropriate humidity, providing education on the dangers of smoking, and emphasizing the importance of avoiding direct contact with pulmonary TB patients, as well as strengthening contact screening by health workers.
