Abstract

A study has been conducted which is aimed to find out about critical thinking skill of Senior High School Students in Buffer Solution learning with Contextual Teaching and Learning. This study used One Group Pre-test-Post-test Design which involved 42 Senior High School students of class XI. The data that was obtained from the pre-test and post-test mark to find out about critical thinking skill. The excellence of the program was could show relationship among concept, develop concept understanding and critical thinking skills of student with Contextual Teaching and Learning. Generally, the learning model with Contextual Teaching and Learning can motivate students to learn, and it can improve the complex thinking ability

Abstract

Assessment is one of activity to measure and assess the achievement level of curriculum and success or not the process of learning, it is also used to know the strengths and weakness consisted in learning process. One of the alternative of assessment is self assessment. In this research, there is an analysis about implementation of self assessment to assess student of XI SMA performance in Chemistry Equilibrium practicum. This research used descriptive method, that describes a phenomenon in learning with statistical measures. This research instrument is compiled according to self assesment implementation rubric.This rubric consists of phases of self assessment implementation to assess student performance in practicum and contains several components such as ideal criteria of self assessment implementation, indicators of achievement, implementation stages feasibility, and data sources. The collecting data of this research comes from self assessment implementation, Student ability to do the self assessment, student performance. The collecting data in this research uses self assessment sheet.self assessment observation sheet, student questionairre, and student interview guide.All research data will be analyzed. The analysis result will be connected to literature, so it will conclude the implementation of self assessment in assess performance of practicum that has been done. This research result show that student ability on self assessment in scholl is very good. The student is categorized as very good in assess his or her performance. It indicates that the ideal criteria on implementation self assessment has been accomplished.

Abstract

The effort in developing science literacy for students can be done through the process of learning science. This process gives changes for students to embrace science completely, instead of teaching science only based on information. Solving the problem of topic discussion will be the design of learning process. Within this process, it needs a model that facilitates students to get a maximum meaningful learning that also involves students’ participation in learning process. Wenning (2007), in his journal Assessing Inquiry Skills as a component of Scientific Literacy,stated that the skill of science literacycan be discovered through measuring students’ inquiry skill. In this topic, inquiry skill means the ability to investigate. The results of the research above show that guided inquiry learning model is able to give positive influence to students’ science literacy.This research used a qualitative descriptive method. The aim of this method was to discover fact, situation, variable and phenomena that encounter while analyzing a research and representing it as the way it was(Notoatmojo, 2012). In this research, the researcher used a descriptive design to delineate the fact or certain population characteristic systematically, factually and accurately in order to know the students skill in science literacy. The data collection technique in this research was a qualitative data gained from written test, interview, and documentation. The average percentage of students' science literacy in three domains (content, context and process) includes in good category. Achievement percentage in the content domain by 71.50%, context domain by 67%and process domain by 84%. It is relevant to Ibrahim & Aspar (2006) that there was a relationship between knowledge and application of science. Thus the high of oneof science literacy domain will affect other science literacy domain. Judging from the aspect of content percentage of 71.50%, which means mastery of the concepts of science (colloidchemistry) is good. Judging from the aspect of student science content,it is obtained achievement by the percentage of 64%. This indicates that colloid chemistry learning has been linked with students' everyday real life.

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is an inorganic compound composed of calcium (Ca) and phosphate (PO43-). This compound is useful for removing colored liquid waste and becomes an environmentally friendly adsorbent. HAp sources are very abundant and have high economic value, one of which is eggshells. Eggshells contain 94% calcite compound, this compound contributes to the mechanical properties and strength of HAp. HAp has unique properties of high ion exchange and adsorption, high thermal stability, and non-toxicity, but there are shortcomings of HAp namely poor mechanical properties and brittleness. A way to improve the mechanical strength of HAp is to composite it with metals. This study was designed to determine the adsorption ability of hydroxyapatite (HAp/TiO2) composite from eggshell against methylene blue. In this study, the synthesis of HAp using hydrothermal method with eggshell material through the calcination process with a temperature of 1000°C obtained the results of CaO which will be synthesized into pure HAp and the results of HAp will be composited with TiO2 metal. The results of HAp/TiO2 are used to adsorb methylene blue with several variations, namely mass, pH, concentration, and time. From the various variations obtained results for the optimum mass variation of 0.125 grams, the optimum contact time at 4 hours, and for the optimum concentration with pH 9, and at a concentration of 100 ppm provides maximum adsorption results against methylene blue.
