Abstract

This research aims to find out the lingual forms and cultural meanings that appear in place naming and is studied based on the formation process, use, characteristics, and also the history of the Tontemboan language form, the local language spoken in Ranoyapo sub-district which is used as the research location. Place naming refers to the study of anthropological linguistics, which studies language and history. This research is qualitative and uses a descriptive approach. In the field of linguistics, this method is used by researchers to find out about many things related to society through language and its terminology. In collecting the data, the researcher used the method of simak and cakap from Mahsun (2007), with the aim of collecting data in the form of lingual forms and the phenomenon of naming places that appear in an utterance. Meanwhile, the commensurate and distributional methods were used to analyse the lingual form data to its smallest level. Based on the results of the research, root words dominate place naming besides being caused by affixation, reduplication, and composition. For example: Danda' [dandaɂ] 'name of the creek', Sukuyon [sukuyon] 'name of the creek', Kayong [kayoŋ] 'name of the creek', Sasano [sasano] 'name of the creek', Gawayas [gawayas] 'guava tree', Pahlawan [hero] 'hero', pa'boseng [paɂboseŋ] 'name of the creek', Ma'tenem [maɂtenəm] 'drying'. Land names with the lingual forms above are location identities in which there are aspects of domination such as water, plants, people, land, objects, stones, and animals.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the form of actor aspect in the focus of Talaud language. Focus refers to a person (more than one) or all living beings, both animals and plants, who can do something and have an impact. In other words, actor focus refers to the speaker's attention to the syntactic-semantic relationship between predicates and nouns to explain who or what is the actor behind. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The population used is native speakers over 30 years old with qualified speaking skills and good mastery of the target language. Mahsun's (2005) Simak method was used to collect data, while Subroto's (2007) Distributional method was used to analyse language data that showed indications of aspectual use in the focus of the actor. This study centres on the morphemic process in predicates. Predicates in Talaud language are usually filled by verbs and the results of word-forming tools such as affixes and re-forms. For the purpose of analysis, the researcher describes the types of verbs (which function as predicates in sentences) in order to see the morphemic process that results in the substitution of nouns to certain parts of the sentence. After passing the analysis stage, six types of aspects that affect the formation of the actor aspect were found, namely inceptive, progressive, perfective, affirmative inceptive, affirmative progressive and sesative. This research shows the disclosure of focus grammatically. Every syntactic function such as noun and adverb can be substituted due to the morphemic process in the predicate.

Abstract

In addition to a well-organised system or management, learning also requires qualified teachers, namely teachers who are able to display student learning motivation in carrying out their duties and obligations professionally. As a form of scientific accountability, this research seeks to reveal the effect of teacher competence on student learning motivation, a spirit that must exist between the two parties to improve the quality of education. Armed with the use of quantitative research methods as a work reference, the researchers selected teachers and students at Adventist Junior High School Olobaru, Parigi Moutong Regency as population and samples. Observations, interviews and questionnaires were prepared as tools to collect data, while Sugiono's (2014) simple linear regression form served as the data analysis technique. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that teacher competence has a positive and significant influence on student learning motivation. This proves that improving teacher competence will also improve the quality of education nationally.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance the vocabulary skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Motoling through the storytelling method. The research employs Classroom Action Research (CAR) with a cycle approach, involving two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting phases. The storytelling method was integrated into English lessons, with simplified stories and vocabulary-focused activities. Pre-tests and post-tests, along with observation checklists and student interviews, were used for data collection. In Cycle 1, students' mean vocabulary scores improved from 63.6 in the pre-test to 74.8 by the end of the cycle, but the success criteria of 75 were not met. Following reflections and adjustments, Cycle 2 showed significant progress, with mean scores rising to 77 in Meeting 1 and 81.2 in Meeting 2. The percentage of students achieving 'good' and 'very good' ratings increased markedly. The storytelling method effectively improved vocabulary acquisition. Adjustments based on Cycle 1’s feedback, such as simplifying stories and allowing more time for vocabulary practice, contributed to the success in Cycle 2. Students engaged more actively with the content, leading to better understanding and retention of vocabulary. The findings suggest that incorporating storytelling in vocabulary instruction can enhance student learning outcomes. Teachers are encouraged to use engaging and interactive methods to improve vocabulary skills, adapting strategies based on student needs and feedback.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out 1) whether there is a significant increase in students' ability to write texts with clustering techniques, and 2) any difficulties that are associated with students in using clustering techniques. The test used is a test writing descriptive text and questionnaires. The method in this research is Post-Test Pre-Test Unit Design. The research design uses one class as an experimental class which gets two consultations using the Clustering technique. The sample used was 20 students in class VIII SMP N 5 Ranoyapo. Research data were collected through pre-test, post-test and questionnaire. The results showed a difference between pre-test and post-test statistics after the application of clustering techniques with significance values. Furthermore, most students find it difficult to use adjectives and develop main topics when using grouping techniques to write descriptive paragraphs. This shows the grouping technique makes it easy for students to improve their writing skills

Abstract

Abstract This study examines the role of women in the Maengket dance-based creative economy in Minahasa, North Sulawesi, focusing on their economic contributions, welfare outcomes, and the structural challenges they face. Employing a mixed-methods design, data were collected through surveys with 20 female practitioners, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and participant observation. The findings reveal that while women constitute the core workforce in Maengket performance, costume production, and training, their economic recognition remains limited. Most respondents are young (19–35 years), educated (75% at least high school graduates), and have been involved for over three years, yet average annual income from performances ranges between IDR 390,000 and IDR 520,000—far below regional living standards. Income instability, lack of formal financial systems, and exclusion from decision-making processes underscore their marginalization in the value chain. Despite the high demand for cultural performances nationally and internationally, women face barriers, including limited digital literacy, minimal access to capital, and male-dominated event management structures. Thematic analysis highlights the dual burden of cultural and domestic responsibilities, as well as aspirations for entrepreneurship, digital marketing, and collective economic models such as cooperatives. The SWOT analysis further identifies strong cultural capital and networked studios as strategic assets, while dependence on government events, weak branding, and insufficient innovation constrain sustainability. This study contributes to the literature on gender and creative economies by demonstrating how cultural production, despite being central to identity and tourism, often fails to translate into equitable economic outcomes for women. This calls for inclusive policies that integrate financial inclusion, digital empowerment, and gender-responsive cultural governance. The study concludes that the sustainable development of traditional arts requires not only cultural preservation but also the formal recognition and economic empowerment of women as key agents of the creative economy.
