Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the relationship between Foreign Language Enjoyment (FLE) and social interaction among Indonesian undergraduate students in English-speaking classes. It also explores whether the duration of learning English affects students’ level of social interaction. The study employs a quantitative descriptive design using a Likert-scale questionnaire adapted from the Foreign Language Enjoyment Scale by Dewaele and MacIntyre (2014). Data were collected from 91 English Education students from various universities in Indonesia. The findings reveal that students generally experience moderate to high levels of FLE, particularly when the classroom environment is supportive and interactive. Pearson correlation analysis shows a positive and significant relationship between FLE and social interaction, indicating that students who enjoy learning English are more likely to participate actively in class. However, regression analysis reveals that the duration of English learning does not significantly influence students’ social interaction. These results suggest that emotional and social classroom factors, such as teacher support, peer collaboration, and classroom engagement, play a more influential role in encouraging interaction than the number of years spent studying English. The study supports the socio-constructivist theory, which emphasizes the importance of meaningful communication and a positive learning environment in foreign language learning. Abstract

English listening materials in schools frequently lack relevance to students' lives due to resource limitations. This study aims to explore students' and teacher’s perceptions of AI-generated contextual listening materials. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, data were collected through interviews and observations from three ninth-grade students and one English teacher at State Junior High School 1 Sintang, and subsequently analyzed thematically. The findings revealed positive responses from students, as they felt more confident and comprehended the lessons more easily through familiar local content (such as the narrative of Bukit Kelam), effectively reducing their cognitive load. Students also highlighted technical challenges regarding the inconsistent clarity of the AI-generated audio. From the teacher's perspective, AI proved to facilitate the customization of localized materials that are typically difficult to find in conventional resources. However, the teacher emphasized that AI outputs require human editing and collaborative feedback to align with formal pedagogical standards. In conclusion, integrating AI into the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach is highly effective for developing culturally relevant materials and enhancing students' learning motivation, provided it is balanced with appropriate instructional design by the teacher

Abstract

Children residing in the Juvenile Correctional Facility (LPKA) generally experience school dropout, low literacy levels, and limited access to educational opportunities that promote empowerment. These conditions negatively affect their academic abilities, learning motivation, and self-confidence. This community service program was implemented to enhance basic English proficiency while simultaneously fostering creative expression through an integrative learning model that combines experiential language activities with creativity-based tasks. The results of the pre-test and post-test indicate substantial improvement: vocabulary mastery increased by 63%, the ability to construct simple sentences improved by 61%, and the use of functional expressions rose by 65%. Observations and interviews further revealed positive changes in learning attitudes, motivation, and students’ willingness to participate actively. Creative skills also improved significantly, with 80% of participants able to produce English mini posters, 75% successfully developing story cards with clear narrative sequences, 60% capable of presenting their work orally, and 80% demonstrating positive expressions and enthusiasm throughout the activities. These findings suggest that creativity-based language learning not only enhances linguistic competence but also strengthens emotional resilience and self-expression. Overall, the program serves as an effective empowerment strategy for juvenile residents, supporting their academic, psychological, and social development.
